wing mirrors

has anyone yet been into dealers and asked about the mod for the mirrors to stop the water runing down the doors / or had the fix done ???...

Just been to local dealer for 1000 mile check up, i asked about the mirror issue and even took a photo in of the corroded mirror that has been shown on here, apparantly there is "no fix or no recall", in fact after some enquries the service manager came and said "not even any information on it".

So we are still in the dark on this, because there clearly is a problem as the photo shows, and even more frustrating is the email that FGRob received confirming the problem.

As for the rusting calipers, the advice was "Buy some caliper paint", but as i pointed out the caliper is not rusting, it's the springs/clips inside the caliper that holds the pads in place which are rusting, and after just 570 miles :(

Reply was : "Ah those parts are made from bare steel, so will rust, but you could paint them too" !!
Funny that because our Astra is 5 years old and theres no rusting on the calipers of that car or any other parts within the caliper.

Whilst i was waiting for my car to come out of the servicing bay i took a walk around sales, they had a used demonstrator RZC in there, it was all cleaned up and polished, and it looked very good but you could clearly see that the calipers and inside of the wheels were full of rust stains, so like the mirrors this is not an isolated problem.

I have started to think to myself how can Peugeot make a car like the RCZ with all it's toys and fancy bits and stunning looks, yet still come out cheaper than it's closest rivals, like the TT for instance, i really hope it's not by using inferior and cheap parts.

Time will tell. :eusa-think:

I really love this RCZ and want to keep loving it, but i hope it's not going to be an on/off stormy relationship.

The problem you have is the dealers (not all I will add) do not realise how involved Peugeot have been with this forum, the forum as a group have a better understanding of the RCZ, which is unusual for a new vehicle and some dealer will not accept this. You will never change their minds as their mind set is purely volume, this is all the more reason for Peugeot to do like Toyota did with Lexus - only sell through specialist dealerships.

This is one of the main reason they lost my business.

Rob.

I would agree, my local dealer is also the main dealer for Ford, Toyota and Peugeot, so at the service desk (one desk for all makes) i'm dealing with a service manager that is not a 100% Peugeot representative.

He was answering questions about mirrors on my RCZ one second and then straight away was advising another customer about issues with her injectors on her Ford Focus !

the mod is to make the holes bigger and paint the inside as posted by fg rob but dealer thinks they will improve on that so hence wait and possible new mirrors but no guarantee but again people need to pain the dealers

I'm in a bit of an awkward position really, i purchased the car from one dealer (Perrys of Milton Keynes) but due to the distance involved i will be using a local dealer here in Swansea for servicing ect, and as my mirrors do not yet show a problem i think it's going to be difficult to get my local dealer to do a mod or get a job card authorised.

If there is an official mod announced then i will be straight back to them, fault or no fault, but at the moment i think it's all being done as a bit of hear say from one dealer to another.

The varying degrees in dealer response is quite amazing.

I visited my dealer a couple of weeks ago to discuss Robs modification.

Most helpful checked on the computer & my vin number, my car was not included in the affected list & car must have the revised mirror fitted.

When i spoke to my local dealer recently, the service manager did the same thing, checked on computer for any info regarding the mirrors and it came back with nothing, he then checked against my vin number to see if the car had had any sort of mod and again nothing, bearing in mind this car is only 6 weeks old i would of thought that it would have had any "new" mods that were needed.

The service manager seemed to think that if a mod has taken place on some cars that are now showing a problem the decision to modify the mirror was a local one and not on Peugeots instructions or advice.

His advice was leave well alone until a problem starts to show, or until Peugeot issue an OFFICIAL mod or recall.
So i think it's one of those things where we have to be vigilant and be on the ball if a problem crops up.

Hi Guys, update on my mirror issue. I have my car booked in for Wed 29th June for Half a day for both mirrors to be replaced. My next question was do they come with the new fix? The service receptionist tells me that the new mirrors come with a different seal and incorporate the new fix. :greetings-wavingblue:

So Peugeot have now officially recognised there is a problem with the mirrors and this is the official fix ?

If this is the case we should be hearing from our dealers for a recall then ?

Even if new cars are not yet showing this defect, surely prevention is better than cure :eusa-think:

Hi jactac, It shows that something is happening in Peugeot land. The more the problem is highlighted then the more Peugeot have to take notice. Once my new mirrors are fitted I will report on the forum if the fix has worked. :greetings-wavingblue:

Hi jrs

I think they may be telling you something you want to hear.

I had a long conversation with Peugeot technical manager about my mirrors all you will get is standard new arms painted or greased up inside and new standard seals.

Could you ask to see the new mirror arms and seals before they are fitted and your old ones afterwards to see what the difference is for us all on the forum to know.

Good point,
My local dealer is adamant there is still no official fix, they said if it looks like a fault is starting to develop then bring the car in and they will investigate it, but until then "leave well alone" unless Peugeot announce a "fix/recall" .

At the moment mine looks ok, but i'm constantly aware that things could change.

Hi race0360, I think you may be correct as I have my own reservations about the fix. Only time will tell. :greetings-wavingblue:

The problem you have with the dealers is very simple, if it's not on the computer then there's not a problem, it's the same with the engine fault on the 200 when pulling off - I was talking to someone with a Mini coopr S with the same problem, Mini wanted over £2000 to try and fix it as the car was just out of warranty - but there's no real information on the computer so they are unsure of the fix, you see a trend forming, I think garages have lost the ability to think on their feet - this goes for most manufacturers today.

It's a pity I've not got the contact details of the guy at the plant who gave the presentation, I'm not sure if Peter (pjork) from the Dutch RCZ owners club still comes on here, if he does it might be worth dropping him a PM to see if he has the contact details for the plant, you could then drop him (the plant guy) a line - remember he's not a Peugeot empolyee. ;)

I don't get the marks any more, I've come up with a simple solution - don't clean the car. :eusa-whistle:
