"ENGINE FAULT REPAIR NEEDED"

All errors relating to spark and combustion... Cylinder head replacement is repairing the fault not diagnosing the problem.

Got a call about my RCZ. Seems there were two issues with the engine.

The first was an oil breather pipe that had been blocked requiring a new rocker cover (i'll be quizzing them about what it was blocked with when I pick the car up).

The second was a faulty turbo solenoid. Both relatively easy fixes and thankfully, both still under a warranty. Sadly now though, warranty is over so any repairs are going to be on my own wallet/time.

Well it seems there were multiple issues with my engine. The above issues plus when I drove away I got a repeat engine warning 500m from the dealership. Turned out there was a misfire in cylinder 1 which was either a coil or a spark plug. Luckily turned out to be a spark plug which was an easy fix.

Purring like, well, an engine now. Glad I got it all sorted before the end of the warranty and as a plus it appears that sticky 2nd gear has sorted itself out.

If its the same fault and they failed to fix it in the last few weeks, regardless of warranty they should be fixing for free surely. Did you get a copy of the paperwork when they 'fixed' it last time?

Even so, I'm don't trust them to look after my car. Not after finding several grease stains on my cream leather when I got the car back. I was also lied to over the phone when calling to find out about the car.

Oh dear!!! That's rather shocking. I'd be interested to hear at whose hands you have had such negative experiences.

Without mentioning names, do a search for the nearest dealership to Aberdeen

Does it begin with G or A C?

AC.

To peugeot's credit I sent an email to a contact I got here on the forum and I'm hoping that they will be willing to fix the car. I just wish this wasn't an issue! I'm getting more and more tempted to sell up once it's fixed and move on to something more reliable

Aaah...sounds like a change of ownership has done nothing to improve things then!! Hopefully Peugeot will intervene and put things right.

Well the car is going back to the same dealership. I'm not overly happy about it but I want the car fixed. Finally they seem to have admitted that it may be a timing issue after I told them several times previously.

It's also amusing to me that contacting someone high up in Peugeot has suddenly meant that courtesy cars that were booked up for months are suddenly available and they are willing to come pick up the car. Basically all the apologies and carpets are being rolled out. The frustrating thing is that I don't believe you should have to kick and scream up the chain to get that kind of customer service.

Oh and sadly this whole experience is making me contemplate whether I want to keep the car or not.

Re: "ENGINE FAULT REPAIR NEEDED"

How sad but I can empathise. I almost reached this point within months of my ownership due to the very poor service and experiences I had with the same (albeit differently named) dealership. Peugeot restored my faith but Starky got rid of his Asphalt within months for similar reasons. Very poor show and I hope that some degree of faith can be restored. Given your recent dealings, I think I'll be avoiding this lot completely and going the extra distance out to Peterhead.

if you really want good service then head to ecosse near Edinburgh in Bo'ness. Best service I've ever had when I got the 2 year service there.

I have two issues with the RCZ atm though, outstanding finance and seeing something that makes want to sell up. The first can be sorted with another loan to sort out the first but the second issue......I'm just not sure I'd find something to replace it. Wish I could switch out the engine for a more reliable one.

I feel like I'm using this thread as my soap box but here we go....

So the kind gents from a certain dealership 12 miles or so from Aberdeen turned up to take my car away. During the conversation I had with the mechanic that drove the car off I was told that I was wrong that the engine shouldn't rev to 2000rpm and sound rough when started up and that the grease marks in my car were in fact dust and not grease. The first point, I'm a mechanical engineer by education and I have taken to bits my gf pt cruiser which is 11 years old to fix various parts. I know what an engine should sound like and how it should act based on previous experience with the engine. Secondly, I have no issue with people making mistakes however I get really irked when they don't face up to the mistakes made and just admit it was an issue at their end. A simple one line, "sorry about that" would have sufficed. Now when the car returns I'm going to be running a fine tooth comb over it to find any issues with how they looked after it.

I hate having to hand my car, one of my most valuable items both cash wise and emotion wise off to a bunch of people that I wouldn't trust to wash my dishes without leaving dirty ones in the sink. Peugeot really need to get their act together. I can see this being the last peugeot I ever own sadly as I love the looks, handling and car but the after care has been shocking and I have yet to come across a dealership that I felt happy with the service.

Sorry is the hardest word to utter and yet means such a lot. I can fully understand how you feel. There are few mechanics in these dealerships as they have all been replaced by "technicians" or in my terminology diesel fitters (these'll fit) so simply fit new parts for old.

Re: "ENGINE FAULT REPAIR NEEDED"

A truly disheartening experience all round! Sadly, this is what I (and a few others) have come to expect from this particular outfit.

I would strongly recommend a letter listing all your concerns and problems finds itself on the dealer principal's desk with a further copy going to Peugeot’s customer service people in Coventry. These actions saw my faith restored by Peugeot with them stepping in and then fitting my feline kit free of charge!

I've been in touch with the peugeot customer care people. To be honest I think it's how I was able to get a courtesy car made available when I was previously told that the next available one was in 3 months time. I didn't take it as abroad atm.

Well I have been offered my next service for nothing at any Peugeot dealership. That then leads me to another issue as I like to service my vehicles myself. I then know exactly what is going into them filter, oil and plug wise.

A new timing chain and tensioner is being fitted as part of the warranty as we speak. I can see me keeping the car for the remainder of my finance then getting shot of it. 22k on a timing chain is not reliable in my book. Been eying up something like a German convertible.

I've had the temperature sensor failure, with faulty water chamber last year, and the ignition coil broken this year. I'm struggling to understand how the ignition coil can just give up after 36k km.

Both problems were diagnosed and fixed within a day at my local Peugeot specialised garage though - I'm sorry you guys are having so many issues with your dealers. Certainly unpleasant to have problems with the car AND the service.

I'll probably try to get the garage to check the turbo and timing chain at the next 40k service, hopefully I don't see any more problems in the coming year...

My car has been returned to my drive way however I am still abroad atm. Should get back tonight/tomorrow to check her over. The time away has allowed to reflect on my experiences and I'm afraid to say the honeymoon period is over. Decided to look at shifting her and buying something more reliable. I'm thinking of a BMW 3 series convertible. It's a real shame but I just don't want a car sitting on the drive that I'm worried about the engine falling to bits on me. In retrospect I should have gone for a diesel.
