Great Post.

To get your RT6 configured someone who has the JBL system will have to take screen shots of each screen in order.

If the use the deactivation file and answer no to all questions, those are the screens you need.

Unfortunately I don't have the JBL, although I did help someone out, who was doing the deactivation but changed another screen (which was the JBL settings), after a bit of trial and error managed to get it working.

I'll take pictures of my setup later.

Apologies for the late reply I'm not on here much.

Ahh, so I just have to go through the "Deactivation of Activation Code" procedure to enable the audio? That's great news if so. I think I had downloaded the files via your post above but I will check it out. Thank you - any pointers you can provide there would be great.

Thanks so much for pointing me in the correct direction. I managed to fix the audio issue as well as an issue whereby my steering wheel button to change audio source wasn't working. I've updated my previous post on this thread to detail what to do. 😁

What I don't get on the screen anymore is the indicator if I open a car door, or the "Checking" progress messages if I press the "Check" button below the speedometer. Any ideas on these? Surely it's another setting or two that enables these. Settings which aren't covered by that script.

EDIT: I fixed the above as well (having the screen show me when car doors are open, pop-up messages, etc. This is more complicated. You need to download the original MiraScripts (this is where the Deactivation of Activation Code files come from) for the RT6. You run this on a USB stick and select an option that saves your RT6's entire configuration on to it. This USB stick is then plugged into a computer with the program DatExplorer that allows you to edit specific RT6 settings one by one. This is where you find and enable the pop-up messages on the RT6. You can customise a lot more here too. Once you save changes, you plug in the USB stick back into the car and instead of saving the configuration, you replace it with your modified one. A reboot of the RT6 and it's done. The RT6 MiraScripts and DatExplorer are all available through here: http://mira308sw.altervista.org/en/
If anyone needs any help doing this, I'm happy to guide you.

Hi all.
I have read and reread this post.
I am just about as confused as I have ever been.
1st - How do I find out what my system is updated to?
2nd - How doi know what maps etc I am running?
3rd - If not a recent map etc, can I just upload latest over the top? Or do I need to delete etc, if so how?
4th - If it all goes wrong, how do I fix it easily?
I have a 308 and that's about all I know

Thanks.. I'm continually looking at the RT6 firmware update info. Absolutely nothing to point me in the right direction. Tried to install 2.8 and 2.86 using OEM cd and file downloads, different usb's 16gb and others and still no joy. I'm losing the will to live..

If you use a USB stick must be fat32 format to work and 8gb for best results but system updates first thing and then the maps

Tried all options. Nothing will work!
I kept getting error when upgrading my firmware to 2.86, did try with copying the files to CD and still the same. In my case it turned out the firmware was already updated to 2.86.

This is what I did to check version of firmware/software and maps.

Checking firmware/software version
1. Press and hold "SETUP" button
2. Select "Radio-telephone diagnosis"
3. Select "Unit description"

Checking map version
1. Press "NAV" button
2. Select "Map management"
3. Select "Mapping and updating"

Some are having issues with settings after doing a firmware, when they have the JBL system.

Can you do a post where you capture each screen (from the deactivation files USB) to show what settings are supposed to be.
Please answer NO to all questions, can be individual pictures or video (just be aware of the site constriaints)!!

When I get my USB sticks back, I will upload pictures for non JBL systems.

Many thanks
Chris

Can anyone confirm that I can go from 2.75 to 2.80 using USB or must I use CD?

Is this what the root of my usb stick should look like?

Q1.png

Format is FAT32, size is 16GB

When I Plug in USB, I get message for about 3-5 mins "Checking Data" then message "Data is damaged or incomplete".

Tried on 2.80 and 2.86 same result.

Current version is 2.75

USB stick is type where you slot in a micro sd card.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Ok .. The saga continues.

Bought a brand new 8gb thumb drive and tried 2.85 firmware upgrade, again "Checking Data", followed by "Data is damaged or incomplete".

Having read on the web that the latest map updates do work with 2.75 attempted to update maps on the 16GB sd card adapter thumb drive, got error about needing deactivation.

Copied deactivation software to 8GB thumb drive and successfully deactivated DRM.

Put 16GB back in and successfully updated to latest UK map...... YAY! Now have 5 digit post-code search via town entry field.

I assume that this means that both thumb-drives can be successfully read by the system.

Will try Risk Alerts tomorrow.

However still can't update firmware. Thinking maybe the updates I have downloaded from various links found on web are incomplete in some way.

Has anyone got copy of either 2.80, 2.85 or 2.86 they have successfully used to update via a thumb-drive that they could put up on the cloud for me. Or give me a link which they have definitely successfully downloaded and updated from using a thumb drive.

Either would be most appreciated.

SUCCESS !!!!!!!!

Ok People I have finally been able to get past the "data damaged or incomplete" message and update the firmware.

I went from existing 2.75 -----> 2.80 --------> 2.86B (though I do not think I needed to go to 2.80 first)

The issue for me was the fact that the "System Volume Information" folder existed on the thumb-drive as suggested by sprout in this thread on the peugeot forums

I had thought I had checked that this folder was not on the thumb drive by ticking the "hidden items" box on the view option on File Explorer, however this was not enough to show the folder in File Explorer. What was needed to to uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" box (see below) on the "Folder Options" "View" tab accessed from the "options" box (far left) on the "view" tab of the File Explorer.

HiddenSystemFiles.png

Once this box is unchecked you will be able to see the "System Volume Information" folder on the thumb-drive in file explorer.

This folder gets created every time you insert the thumb-drive into the usb slot on your PC if it does not exist.

Deleting it is a bit tricky and the only successful way I found of doing it was by following these instructions :-

When you have done this you will see in File Explorer that the "System Volume Information" folder is no longer on the thumb-drive.

Once this is done you can copy the unzipped files to the thumb-drive.

Remove the thumb-drive and do not put it back in the pc before you try it in the car as when doing so windows will automatically create the "System Volume Information" folder on the thumb-drive again.

So for me this was the process to finally get the firmware updated.

  1. Format thumb-drive of 8GB to FAT 32 with default cluster size.
  2. Delete "System Volume Information" from thumb-drive by following instructions in link above (This MUST be done before copying the files onto the drive)
  3. Copy unzipped firmware files to root folder of thumb-drive (see my previous post showing the files in the root folder, yours should look identical)
  4. Remove thumb-drive from pc (DO NOT RE-INSERT IT)
  5. Start car and wait for navigation system to boot up
  6. Insert thumb-drive into usb slot in armrest
  7. Message about checking data will be shown
  8. After a while message about doing firmware update will be shown, answer "Yes"
  9. The process to update the firmware will start
  10. During the process the screen will go blank a number of times don't panic and pull out thumb-drive leave it to continue
  11. Also during the process percentage complete messages will be displayed counting up to 100%, This happened at least twice don't panic and pull out thumb-drive when the screen goes blank afterwards or gives a message about updating just let it continue
  12. At the end of the process the system will restart and the one of the normal screens will be shown, for me it was the satnav screen probably because i was on satnav screen when I inserted thumb-drive.
  13. Once the normal screen is shown you can take out the thumb-drive and check the version.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

My wife's new-to-her RCZ R was on V2.75 when she got it this week.

I downloaded V2.86 from post #112 in this thread, extracted it to a FAT-32 32Gb USB drive and deleted the System Volume Information directory.

Put it in the car, and after about 20 minutes (during which the car changed its displays to km and the RT6 rebooted a couple of times) everything sprang back into life and the car was on V2.86. No information lost or settings changed that I could see.

A very painless update.

Next stage will be Maps and then Risk Alerts.
