My thinking is on the current sat Nav you couldn't use an iPod or similar as the Nav system had a built in hard drive onto which you stored your music.

The Sat Nav on the facelifted model does not have the hard drive so you will be be able to store all your music on your iPod/iPhone.

My iPod lives in the armrest of the Z. Never comes out so I find it much easier to use the iPod. I spent just a little time setting up playlists so it's easy to navigate to particular artists and or albums or you can have a selection, whatever you want.

I don't find this a problem :)

Playlists? Believe it or not I've never used them, never had the need so I've no idea what they're about. But from your post it sounds like I could set something up to emulate a folder structure (i.e. an artist folder containing all their albums), is that right? And I'd need to maintain/update it when I rip an album by an artist I didn't have anything by previously?

Sorry for the numpty questions :-?

Do you navigate on the iPod itself or is there some kind of integration into the Nav's knobs and buttons?

I don't have an iPod (I'm an Android guy), but wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it's more convenient.

Edit: I've just checked the manual of the WIP Nav+ (or RT6, that's how it's called in the U.K.), it says that there are buttons for next/previous track, and buttons for next/previous folder. Maybe there's hope...

On the new Sat Nav you would access your music all from the comfort of the controls on the steering wheel, much l can do now without the Sat Nav system. In fact it's the same, more or less.

You can select to play tracks by Artist, genres, playlists, albums and then use the scroll button on the steering wheel to select, press button to jump to next track or go back, or select to go to next artist or next playlist, etc, etc

Steve - yes on ITunes you can set up playlists. How ever many you want. You can add songs to a playlist, remove one or just keeping making new ones. It can be anything you want. I have playlists for the same artists, as you said, rock songs, chill out songs, boy band tracks ;),

Here's a snapshot of some of mine

And if you access one - the Dance playlist for example here's all the songs within as an example

I find this so easy to use :)

Thanks Kerry, I see what you mean but it looks like playlists are as simple as I assumed they were, i.e. just a list of individual tracks to play which is why I haven't bothered with them before. Just to check, are you saying if you went into your Dire Straits folder you'd see a list of Dire Straits albums or a list of all Dire Straits songs?

If I went in the Dire Straits playlist it would list all the songs that I had particularly chosen to put in there.
All songs by a particular artist are listed separately under Artist where it would list all their songs that you have on your ipod/iphone. Within iTunes however you can sort them to play within each album or alphabetically of song title or your favourites in order of how you have graded them.

There is also an Album playlist you can set up of your favourite albums if you wanted. Possibilities are endless.

Thanks again :) I'll install iTunes and have a play, but it looks like I'll need to convert the playlist format from Apple's xml into one of the three formats the Connect Sound system recognises. I'll have a play around, and I'll start a new thread if I need more help rather than clutter this one up any more ;)
