Running lights

Hi folks

Ordered a pair of these led bulbs from hq lighting. Fitted them tonight. They look
Well smart!, blend in nicely with the xenon headlights, instead of the yellow drl/sidelight bulbs originally fitted.

I am pleased to see the bulbs I recommended everybody who has bought these so far think they are are great.

I am still waiting on a friend to see if he can modify the puddle lights in the doors. He says it abit harder to convert to a super white light than he first thought.

Keep you posted.

Hi guys. Fitted my bulbs last night and as I said well smart. However, I have just checked on the diagnostic function (the one accessed via the radio) and it says that both sidelight bulbs are faulty. This is despite the fact that the new led bulbs are on and working fine. Anyone else checked this and got the same warning?

Thanks

Jez

Hey bee
I just don't get it, both new bulbs are working fine. Have checked all the other lights and theyre all working fine too. I might try taking the new led bulbs out and refitting them.

I've just been out and had another check on my lights. I only get the warning message saying sidelight bulbs faulty when the lights are set to the auto function. If I override this and manually put my headlights on using the stalk then the warning message is no longer there.

yep worth a try.i had the warning a couple of weeks ago when a bulb failed but it only showed up when i checked for faults on the menu. it looks like the computer is that sensitive it knows there is the wrong bulbs fitted.

I think this warning show's because LED'S run at a lower voltage, so therefor the car's diagnostic function thinks a bulb has failed because it cannot find the correct voltage for the standard bulb. My Astra was the same when i tried LED's on my side lights. You have to use "error free canbus" type. i think :eusa-think:

yep that makes sense jactak but its now getting complicated.

That does make sense jactac. The bulbs i fitted were stickered
Up as 12volt, and were the ones posted on the link on this thread. However, since I posted earlier I have been out in the car and the warning message has disappeared altogether, even with the lights set to auto!

Could be that initially the car "indentified" a low voltage fault, but has now stabilized and is recognizing the new lower voltage

All the cars fitted with LEDs are using bixenon, really? Did anyone tried this in a default lights car? One of my DLR lights died with 100 hours of use. I have to check this with my dealer because they died in month and a half only!

I will also try to modify interior lights and change them for LEDs.

Fitted and loving them...you really dont realise how much difference these £12 lights actually make to the car - visually...however I have noticed something...once the car is alarmed (havent tried the car with the follow me home feature enabled yet) these is a very slight glow, but eventually it dies off, must be something to do with the way an LED works.

Yes mine does that too. They glow very dull for a while then go dark.

I have the 'follow me home' lights set at 15 seconds and the LEDs continue to glow for a short time after the main lights shut down (I haven't actually timed it though). It looks like there is residual voltage on the DRLs when you lock the car and the normal filament bulb can't glow at at such a low voltage but its still enough to light the LEDs.
