I challenged them over this and they said Peugeot Ireland only offer 2 years. Now, I bought the car in Northern Ireland so what's stopping me replacing the plates, driving over the border and getting a dealer to carry out the work there?

How many dealers are there near you? Maybe worth phoning around anyway and asking to see if any of them say 3 years.

Just back from dealer and I'm not happy! Peugeot Ireland's manufacturers warranty lasts only for 2 years and my car is 2011. Bill for replacing both wing mirrors due to seized motors €1,500. Annoyed is more like it!

Better get mine done before warranty elapses. Just letting it develop at the moment :thumbup:

No I bought it from Donnelly + Taggart motorstore. I rang them and there warranty expired when I drove over the border and re-registered the car!! No help here either! Two years warranty is damn right lousy!! I may make a few calls...

Got mine done this morning and happy not to hear the groan any more! Points people maybe interested in;

- just the base of the mirror needed spraying as they swapped the covers from the old mirrors to the new ones. The paint on the bases are a perfect match which is good.
- the new mirrors 'remembered' all my settings which was good. Probably because its stored on the ECU or something techy like that.
- asked about the 2 yr warranty in Ireland and apparently this is true. It's the same here but the 3rd year is a dealer warranty which apparently Ireland doesn't have. If your car was regd there, you can't cross the border to have the work done as they will know where it was regd and what the entitlement is. How unfair.
- due to the issues I've had with my mirrors, I asked the manager if they'd go over the engine with a fine tooth comb. They found a few bits which need doing so the car needs to go back in again. O well, at least they were thorough! New coolant pipe, clip to go in the oil pump pipe and something else I can't remember.

thanks for reply and glad you got your mirrors sorted. I guess i am going to have to either live with it or try and remedy some cheap fix. i sure as heck won't be spending €1500 getting new ones. The car needs new tyres all round so that is more important.

My mirrors were due to be replaced last Friday but I had to cancel last minute as I needed the car, I was offered a loan car from the dealer while my Z would be in ( Days Of Swansea :clap: ), but I have now decided to get them done in a few weeks when I'm on holiday.

I was surprised though when I was talking to one of the technicians about this on going mirror problem with the Z, as he said that nothing had been physically done at the design stage about the mechanism corroding by Peugeot, apart from changing the affected parts and doing an "unproven & time will tell" modification on the seals under warranty. Even the new 2013 model is still being built with the original mechanism and seals, but without this so called modification being done at time of build, so that means that some unfortunate new models could still be showing signs of this problem in a year or two when the corrosion starts to kick in. :thumbdown:

Why dont these manufactures listen and learn from past mistakes :eusa-think:

Jactac I'm not sure that the new model does have the old mechanism as I don't get anywhere near the water drops I used to get on Pearl, when I've washed the car. Time will tell I suppose

Washed mine straight after. Water comes flowing out of the mirror now, not at the base(ie the bit connecting the mirror to the door) where it use too. Still could corrode I assume, but at least less water will be 'trapped' so perhaps at a slower rate :wave:

Hopefully K you will not see the dreaded white streaks or start to hear the creaking and groaning. But I would suggest that this would be more down to luck more than anything else.

From what has been explained to me the idea of this so called mod is to get the water out and not hold it in, contaminating the mechanism. It is the seal that is modified not the mechanism, but unfortunately it is the mechanism that ultimately becomes affected.
The seal has not yet been modified at the design/ manufacture stage, it is merely an identical replacement seal that is then modified by the person doing the repair or fix on mirrors showing this fault.
All Z's, unless they have been in for this fix are still using original seals and mechanisms.

I've had my Z for nearly two and half years, and its only recently that the symptoms are starting to show, and in all honesty the symptoms are very slight at the moment, but it's going in anyway.
So I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you, I suppose some may be affected sooner than others . :eusa-think:

There could be a couple of things that affect how quick this occurs, like for instance washing the car with "hard water", have you seen what happens to the inside of a washing machine if you live in a hard water area. It corrodes alloy parts. Some parts of the country have very "hard water", it almost tastes limey .
Then there's living near the coast, salty air, or salt on the roads in the winter being thrown up and finding it's way into the mirrors when we try to wash the salt off.

Like it was explained to me, this water needs to run free, not sit inside the mirror bathing the alloy mechanisms, that then eventually start to corrode and creak whilst giving off this white milky residue.

Anyway K, I really hope you don't become another statistic with your new car, especially with that awesome red. :thumbup:

I did have to have both mirrors on Pearl replaced because of the dreaded groan. Mine started about a year after I got the car and Peugeot replaced the whole unit and they came already painted. Never had any more problems after that. Fingers crossed Ruby will be the same :thumbup:

Hope you get yours fitted and your problem will be sorted ....... The wing mirrors of course

Yes the parts may still corrode , maybe they need modifying like the seal does.But I think we are given a bit of a fighting chance having the seal replaced and then modified. :eusa-think:

There could be your problem K, as we know you obviously wash you car hell of a lot, so living in a very hard water area, have you thought about installing a water softener .
Easy to install and not expensive.
Far better tasting water, and safer on the Z. :thumbup:
It really does not take long for hard water to start to deteriorate metal parts.

I do have a water filter that I use when giving the car it's final rinse which helps with water marks and helps filter out the "hardness".

So the Z is booked in again this week for the mirrors to be be sorted.
It was in for the same job 2 weeks ago but we decided to cancel it as the dealer wanted the car for a full day so that they could strip the mirrors down and change the internal mechanism, then do this so called mod on the seals.
So rather than them try and rush the job in half a day I decided to leave it until I had a full free day for the car to go in.

Apparantly this fix where they do a full strip down of the mirrors takes longer than just swapping the mirrors for complete new ones, that would not of had any type of mod done to them. (their words not mine) :eusa-think:

They did offer to just a swap over the mirrors with complete new ones, but advised to have the original mirrors stripped then replace all the workings, and the seals altered, so that's what I've gone for. It also saves on having the mirrors painted, which in all honesty was my main reason for not wanting complete new mirrors.

Frustrating thing is that the mirrors have been great lately, no creaking or groaning at all, sods law as they say. :roll:

The dealer offered me a loan car but I didnt need it, so they just dropped me off at home and will collect me later to pick up the Z. :clap:

Whilst I was waiting for my lift home I was offered a test drive in the new 208Gti, so as I had an half hour wait I took up the offer, and it turns out that after 20 mins driving around in this wound up capsul was more than enough for me. :wtf:

This little thing buzzes around like wasp with a hungry taste for cocaine, I really dont think I could drive it for long periods of time, it was hard, noisy and rather uncormfortable, much much more than the Z, I suppose it would be great fun in short bursts, a bit like coke I'm guessing, but in the long term a hazard to your health :eusa-think:

So the 208Gti is not for me, maybe a few years ago when my spine and ears could take the hammering, but not now. :?
The Z is like driving a Bently in comparison :clap:
