I really like the look of the GTC /VXR. They are a good looking car. I much prefer the look to a Golf R.

l THINK..its age dependant the "Astra VXR IS REALLY "PREMIER LEAGUE" Boy Racers wet dream"Its a Hulky Looking CAR"....Matts 30... The Golf R is "AGE DEPENDANT" mac ya old goat... :) and any young Golf driver/owner wants their car too look like a Golf R...Horses for Course's...Same can be said with the RCZ-R its a "Mid Life Crisis" car...who's buyer's want the thrills but NOT the intial outlay/ running costs of a Porsche Boxster/caymen :)

What I cannot understand is people buying the GTC VXR without the Aero kit. It doesn't look like the same car and is barely discernible from the much less powerful GTC (Sri). This is an essential option in my eyes. It's a prett imposing motor with that kit on it!

Matt my thinking is why do the car without the Aerokit in the first place :eusa-think: .....side skirts, big wheels....why not just charge for 20"s...the rest of the kit looks a nominal charge....side skirts bi spoiler

Nope, I don't get it at all either!!! If you want GTC styling a then buy a regular GTC. The Aero kit is what visually marks the VXR out from its little brother. To buy a VXR without it is an absolute travesty in my eyes!! There's one on Autotrader and I feel sorry for it every time it comes up in my search results!!

:( :(

Just looks a bit ding in comparison M&S those alloys are terrible!!

The ST moutune has just been on the rollers. It produced 275bhp.

Abz thats the nice sounding old 2.5 v6 Mk2.5 ST and a very nice example into the bargain 225 bhp is standard so a small 50 bhp upgrade is quite impressive, remember Ford themselves put 350 bhp in this engine for the Focus RS500...A lot of RS owners have got easily 450-600bhp from this engine.

The bloke who's car it is was expecting 290. The dyno guy said he will easily exceed that if he changes the original air box. So to me it does sound like a very easily tunable engine :)

Varity can be the spice of life each car can have benefits over another likes & dislikes, im sure what ever car people choose will bring some pleasure & enjoyment in one way or another just like my RCZ has brought me, so good luck to everyone who chooses to move to another model mine being Aston Martin Vanquish if I could afford one

Yes, even the new eco boost was designed in conjunction with a 3rd party engineering house.

Thats what I thought. I was getting confused if Jass was refering to the old 2.5 V6 St200 engine from the mondeo

Ford's are losing it in the design stakes l think but the medium sized saloon class in infested with so many makes, some of the Korean car's are very nice looking indeed. But the new mondeo will sell that's for sure

Ah the mundaneo..whatever happened to that?

It became the best handling mid range saloon out there - still is.

people stopped buying them when badge snobbery got the better of them.

Completely agree re the Mondeo. It'll sell as a fleet car but it looks very bland and uninspired and unimaginative and predictable and passionless. Is that really how the new one will look?

Ok guys...so...a wee announcement from me. It is with some sadness that I must announce that my RCZ is set to go...on Monday. I have, by and large, loved my ownership experience. Ok, yes, it has come to a conclusion somewhat earlier than I had anticipated and most of you will be aware of the reason for this so I won't cover old ground (there's plenty devoted to that in other threads). There's so much to love about this car; the looks of it and the attention that it gathers, that special quality that it has that makes me still turn back for a second look when I walk away, the curves, its muscular haunches, the presence it has on the road...I could go on.

One particularly unexpected joy from owning this car has been this forum. I cannot tell you how truly honoured I feel to be a part of the best forum on the planet and to have had the pleasure of getting to know each and every one of you. It has been said before but, this is so much more than just a forum!! This is a community and it continues to evolve and grow and I have learned so much about so many things from you. It is my hope that I can continue to be a part of this forum even after I give up the RCZ (whether this will be in my current role or not will have to be decided upon).

You already know what I'm replacing her with, there's pictures of her already within this thread. After quite some negotiations and patience, I managed to strike a deal for the Astra VXR. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on her (as yet unnamed) and giving her a good boot...I'll have plenty of time as it'll be a 6 hour drive home!!

So...it's with very mixed emotions that I will be saying goodbye to my beloved car :( :cry): but hopefully not to this forum quite yet!!

It's sad it's come to this because of poor service from the dealer, but good look with the new motor! You'll need a few tanks of petrol on the way back then...?

Thanks guys!! Yup Dan, it's not the conclusion that I had hoped for and I'm keen to say goodbye to her before I become bitter and she starts costing me more money. I got a pretty good deal so I'd advise anyone trading in in the future to push hard. Mine finally went for 14.2k with 16,000 miles on the clock (61 plate, 2012 registered). Yeah...I suspect that the return leg might cost a bob or two so will have to try and keep my hands off that VXR button!!! (But the dials look so cool when they all turn red and the response sharpens... )

I will mention that I will have a number of things which I will look to sell on from my car. I have a couple of rather exclusive and unique keyrings, a rubber boot tray, two summer Contis (with 4mm remaining tread) and, if I can be hooped doing it/have the time before heading down the road, pretty much every light on the car!

Congrats on the new car, she's rather lovely! I've had a soft spot for Astra's since the Mk 1 (had two of them).

I hope you do stick around here, it is a great community, as much about the people as it is the RCZ which is a bond but not the only one.

Enjoy the new car mate :)
