The roof rails on my new Z were badly watermarked, saw this thread and thought it was worth a go, tried it on a small area first... the results are brilliant, I just used Halfords own tyre shine and it's done a great job. I'm a bit wary of recommending using something which isn't actually made for that material, but I must say it's worked well for me!

Some good products out there to cover up the stains in the alloy like WD40 and Tyre shine. For a longer term solution I use a rubbing compund
paste like Maguires or Mother's, currently using Mothers. Apply the compound onto the roof bars and then use 0000 grade wire wool either by hand or a rotor polisher. Leaves a fabulous finish that lasts a little longer than WD40.

When I wash my chrome arches I rinse them off with bottle water then use aqua wax by autoglym and hay presto no water marks, as water marks are what is in the tap water Eg lime scale, fluoride etc..
Hope this helps you out..

To add to this thread I tried Stardops White Vinegar Spray and it works a treat - removes the water marks. Sprayed onto a cloth then rubbed into the arches. Stardrops bottle only 89p from B&M - also in The Range...

The Netherlands but Italian :)
I used some spray oil made for clean stainless steel in the kitchen 😅. A little bit oily now but perfect for clean after the birds presents 😠

Yes the oil may provide more protection following cleaning than the white vinegar on its own. I have followed the cleaning with white vinegar with a treatment of RainX and it appears to give protection from further water marks and it seems to be going well so far. I will see how it goes with the white vinegar and RainX and report back in a few weeks...🤓
