Yeah good luck with the tribunal Ron, Ive been wondering where you was with all that.

I was offered a job meter reading last year when I got laid for the 2nd time. I'm sure it was with GS4 :eusa-think:
I didnt take the offer up because I had just found something else a few days before the offer.

From what I can recall all the "interviewing" was done over the phone, 3 telephone conversations in total I think, then they rang back, offered the me job and a date for a 2 day training course. It was all a bit surreal having interviews not face to face, just a voice on the end of the phone asking questions.

I know a couple of lads that do meter reading, not with GS4, and they enjoy it , out in the fresh air, own van, you are your own boss in a way, as long as you do your daily reading quota it's easy enough, job and finish.

So good luck with everything

Own van!! Pah. I will be if it all happens. A franchisee. So all the pressures with none of the perks. My own car will be be used. They will set the targets and so not really a franchisee. Not really my own boss. Merely employed without any paid holidays or sick pay. Better than nowt though. At least with my work ethic I should be able to earn more than minimum wage. Currently my step granddaughter is earning more per hour & week than I am. How embarrassing is that?

Maybe its because its a franchise that you have to supply your own transport, but the job I went for was as a full time employee for the company. Not sure if it was GS4, but that name rings a bell :eusa-think:
Van, uniform, hand held reading gizzmo, all included. I know the wages were pretty poor though if you didnt reach your quota, and you could basically pick your hours, as long as you read all the meters.

Yeah same here, my son is earning nearly 3 times my wage as a 1st year programmer straight out of Uni, I think it's called a post graduate position or something
And he regards his salary as low for his field. :?
I dont even know what he actually does, something to do with "back end programming", he may of said "rear end". :?

Guidance required. My name is Scott Barton and I got a double flash from a speed camera. My speedo was showing 56 mph on a 40 mph dual carriageway just after midnight last night. If only I had braked when Pearl2 bonged to alert me of the camera. Instead I faffed about wondering "what speed should I be doing, what speed am I doing" too late!

Had a clean licence for decades until this event and so way out of touch with current levels of punishment.

D'oh! 3 points and a £60 fine but you should be offered a speed awareness course instead.

That would be ok if that was to be the case. Was wondering if 56/53 mph was too high as a percentage of the 40 mph limit?

Your normally ok for 10 mph over the limit. And I've found speedos on cars to always be a few mph over what your doing. So fingers crossed you'll be offered the course.

I think it's the 3 points and a fine Ron.

I just scrapped in with a speeding course last year, I was doing 34mph in a 30 zone.

Only last week I went past a mobile camera van doing 43mph in a 40 zone, I know that if I was "flashed" I could be offered a course, however as I have already done a course last year, they dont allow another course for 3 years, so there could be a bit of bad news in the post for me any day now :?

Looks like you may have to take this one on the chin Ron. :law-policered: :auto-car:

Damn.......eh nothing more annoying Ron and i hope the best for ya,pity they dont have cameras for aggresive bad driving and running through red lights....some guy done this at traffic lit roundabout flew through a red as i was moving away on a green he just missed me  i tooted my horn several times at him,he then braked harshly for me to backend him pardon the pund,my car prevents this and it didby braking itself,as i was very unaware why he would stop,he done it again... 5 yards on i got out my car and ran towards him, just as the traffic moved so did he and i had to rush back to my car....so the traffic behind me"rush hour" could move i was bloody fuming and would have pulled him right out of his car a old 04 plate 307

So it looks like GroundHog day once again for me.
99.9% chance of being laid off AGAIN in October.
That's every year for the last 3 years

This company I currently worked for has simply expanded too big and too fast , and now the bubble has burst

Eleven of us on the hit list, and we've been told that our contracts will almost certainly not be renewed in October.
The annoying thing is that this would of been my full permanent contract in October

I think that this will probably be the final straw in me deciding whether to put the Z up for sale.
I've toy'd with the idea for so long, but if I do get laid off it would be madness having her sit on the drive even more than she is now, plus the money could be put to far better use.

So I'll see what happens over the next 2 weeks, if I can find something maybe there will be a life line to keeping her, but I'm not holding my breath for a good outcome

We've had a constant run of bad news in the family over the last 6 weeks, and this just tops it all off.
The saying "life is too short", really should be taken more serious.

It never rains eh .

Aye, it never rains but it pours turds.

But things change. Old saying "Tie yourself to the mast and the storm will end".
And it's true enough. I've been were you are and it wouldn't surprise me if it happens again. But like you say, lifes to short and sometimes you got to say "Duck it!" and not worry about it. At least your still breathing!

Fingers crossed for ya mate!

Sorry to hear hard times have hit clan Jactac, hope everything turns out well for you all. Been laid off myself in the past and it sucks big time but 3 years on the trot, that's going to take its toll. Try and keep positive chief, I know its hard at times though.

Sorry to hear this bad news Jactac. Hopefully someone, somewhere is waiting for you to apply for that job, which is just around the corner.

Life really is too short and we all tend to take it rather for granted. Cherish every moment I say, especially with your loved ones :)

What can I say me old mucker that hasn't so eloquently been said already? You know that I know just how it feels. I know that jobs aren't aplenty as those in secure employment like to think. I'd have been happy with a rejection letter, however we know that companies don't bother to send a reply to you. Life sucks mate and sometimes being short aint a bad thing, as one can only take so much excreta in ones lifetime and you have had someone elses share as well as your own. I genuinely hope that you manage to turn the corner and something come along for you. Lets face it you have been very successful in the past, even getting multiple offers. Fingers crossed for ya Kerry

Thanks guys.
To be honest this latest news about my job, although is bad news, it is insignificant to some of the news we have been given lately.

The job may be gone, as will the Z probably, but these things can be replaced, I'm sure.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Jactac I can only echo the sentiments already expressed. I'm so sorry to hear of all your recent bad news and the latest employment developments. You "can't keep a good man down" so I know you'll overcome that particular hurdle. Just stay positive and I'm sure someone will bite your hand off to get you onboard.

Your other unsettling news sounds deeply troubling and I hope that you are surrounding yourself with those that you love and that love you. You're absolutely right about life being too short. These tests make us refocus and re prioritise what's important in life and it's amazing what suddenly becomes trivial and less important. I am a firm believer in living life with no regrets and like every day is your last. Life is too short and too precious to waste. Take care of yourself mate and best wishes to you all.
