Just a normal Monday morning, I get in the car, put the key in and turn - click, click, click, click, ...bong!

"Airbag or seat belt pretensioner fault".

It's not going anywhere today

Anyone else had this?

What do you expect from a car on a _Monday_ morning :eusa-whistle:

Hope you get this sorted quickly.

My prediction is that airbags and belt pre-tensioner are fine and the sensor is faulty...

Cheers Tom, I suspect it's a sensor too. I spoke to my local Peugeot dealer and they've suggested checking under the driver's seat for a loose connection :eusa-think:

If that's not it the car will have to be "recovered" I hope that's covered under warranty.

Hi Frank, I guess it could be the battery but there have been no tell-tail signs it's on its way out.

I checked all the under-seat connections last night and they are all sound, so that's not it. Another message appeared though, "Economy mode active". Maybe it does point to the battery? Hmm..

Anyway, back on the phone to Peugeot today.

'Economy Mode Active' always comes on for me - this is when the you have turned the electrics on (but not started the car) and a certain amount of time goes by (say 3 mins). This then comes up and it turns most electrical items off to save draining the battery. I think :eusa-think:

Thats pretty much it. Economy mode comes on once the battery goes below a certain voltage. Its supposed to prevent the battery going dead so that you can always start the car to recharge it.

yes, I always understood it to be a 'battery saver' function, but now it comes on as soon as the ignition key is turned.

So, I've just come off the phone to my local dealer. As the car is 15 months old Peugeot Assist has expired and I will have to pay for the recovery myself. Have phoned Peugeot Assist and was told I can't renew if my car has broken down, only if it is working ok :wtf:

So Catch 22; I can't get cover and I can't get it fixed.

It's going to be a long day

Have you got a battery charger you could try? It may be that it has gone flat enough not to start the car. And usually when you try and start the car, it draws power away from other systems, making them think theres something wrong with them.

Goood idea. As I was posting my last comment it made me think that maybe I could try jump-starting it if it thinks the battery is dead.

I'll give it a go this evening.

Cheers.

Yes, started without any issue, so very relieved

I took it straight to the dealer, who was obviously shut  but there was a stray salesman there so not a wasted journey. I've left the car there overnight so will speak to them in the morning and will hopefully get it resolved soon.

It's odd how this occurred; no symptoms leading up to the failure. I'm inclined to think it's not the battery at fault but an electronics problem, but I could be proved wrong.

I'll keep you guys posted.

PS. Now have a pair of jump leads permanently in the boot

A quick update for you.

Diagnostics have shown a faulty fuse box which is being replaced under warranty.

Looks like I'll be without the RCZ over the bank holiday though.

Will they not lend you a demo for the weekend?

Pah! Not a chance!! I did ask, but they won't lend me anything, let alone an RCZ. Customer service never has been a strong point of my local dealer. :eusa-whistle:

Re: I am riding RCZ in Japan.

A whole fuse box?! :?:?:? Erm...

As for not lending you a car...that's absolutely ridiculous!!!:mad:

I chased the dealer for progress today. The replacement box has not arrived so definitely without the car over the bank holiday

Asked again about a loan car - no bloody chance.

I'm dubious that the fuse box is the answer, but they can keep replacing parts as long as they like until they fix it. I may end up with a whole new car piece by piece :D

Woohoo! I picked the RCZ up late yesterday afternoon and all is good

It took several phone calls to wake the dealer up after the bank holiday but I got there in the end.

Oh, and guess what ??
