Any turbo car can be easily maintained if you're sensible. Although some will tell you that modern turbo engines will withstand ignorance and abuse I would simply recommend good practice in warming up and cooling down the engine. That, regular oil checks and good quality fuel should maintain it without too many issues.
The turbo blew on my Rcz GT HDI a couple of months ago. It was a warranty job but I lost faith in it for a while. I'm a low mileage (3K a year) 51 year old driver. That's said, maybe the low mileage is an issue. I now do as someone on here told me (sorry can't remember who) "if I've made it spool I let it cool". Great advice. And... Whilst I'm on the subject of issues and this is not a dig at the Rcz, I've also had to have new suspension bushes on both sides at the front. The roads in Sheffield are horrendous.
I want a to finish off by saying I love the devotion everyone on this site has for their particular car, albeit a golf, Peugeot or any other car. A difference of opinion is a good thing I feel.
Keep up the good work.

Tony u didn't happen to get run over by a vw cause man u've got a serious downer on em ;) nought like trying to spoil a fellow members impression of his potential new motor :(
I don't think he has mate.
Its an RCZ forum you're posting on here, so there's bound to be an element of bias here (and as I'm in the honeymoon period I don't discount myself here).
If any of us RCZ owners made the choice to wander over the the Golf R section of whichever VW forums are out there, you can be sure there would be the equivalent - and in spades.
One might argue that you have this level of Golf R bias/RCZ downer yourself ........ Just saying. :eusa-whistle:

I've never once said anything negative about my RCZ on here. Many ex owners have slated it once they sold where as I've been nothing but positive about the best looking most reliable car I've ever owned. :). Oh and most on the golf forums actually like the RCZ it's the audi boys sorry jassy who dispise em :)

Well I hope you enjoy your new VW, it shouldnt really be on the cards if you were after a coupe as its a hatch, as for the RCZR interior, yes I have a tendency to agree with you, it would have been nice if they would have given it the facelifted 308's interior but they kept it the same as the original, tbh I dont notice it unless i go between the 208 and the RCZR (its mainly the touch screen which is a vast improvement and the steering wheel where you look over it in the 208, way ahead of its time).
I know the golf drivers said half the stuff i put down didnt matter, but it does, having come from a car with 310+bhp (standard power btw even though 280ps was quoted), and awd, 25-28mpg was the usual on a run, the Golf R is better but not as much as you would think (vw's fuel figures have always been laughable), which adds to running costs.
Insurance is pretty similar on both the Golf and the RCZR, about 4 quid in it considering the RCZR is a few groups higher, and I dont expect someone to kick my front door in the the RCZR, the Golf.... it will be the more desirable car due to the fact its a little more practical.
Overall driving experience, the RCZR is near faultless, its not 100% perfect but you forget about that, its seriously good fun and you get a nearly fully equipped car for the price compared to the golf which is spartan in comparision until you throw another 8-10k at it.
I will also warn you about the tfsi engines, dont do short journeys in them, people will say the prince engine is bad for coking up but the tfsi's are seriously bad at it (well proven and documented), another reason I avoid vw, even though you cannot fault their build quality, reliability is another issue (long gone are the days of vw reliability, or german reliability in general). My Subaru's were all pretty reliable (then again they were all 2ltr engines and not the chocolate 2.5's) and I have had no major issues with the 12 or so peugeots I have owned (except 1 head gasket on a 10+ year old car which was easy to sort out).
Have fun with your Golf R, its not a bad car, just not for me v the RCZR (it was a no brainer actually for what i wanted).
Oh and dont let them tell you that awd will save you in the snow, it wont unless you have winter/snow tyres on (same with fwd or rwd), been there, done it.

well, thank you sir for those true words! It is a pleasure to read from a fellow mind.
My best friend's dad owns a shop where all brands are maintained. And the horror stories he's telling about VW mechanics and especially about those horrid 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 TSI and those bigger TDI (not that 1.6 TDI unit which is fine) engines, are just worth to be put in a book.
That is what drives me off VW (I also was tempted by the Golf R, for like hours). He admits, not only VW/Seat/Skoda suffers from those faulty designed engines but also other brands. But the french improved like hell, he said. It is like the opposite in the 70/80s where ze germans were actually really reliable (but not modern by any standard).

I'm well aware of what is required to drive in winter conditions after living in Germany for 8 years, I have also owned numerous Audi/VW without any engine issues, I'm not saying there aren't any I'm saying I haven't had any and I'm sure many people can say they've had problems with their RCZ, cars are mass produced and inevatibly issues will occur.

Can you please show your comparison of adding 8-10k of extras to get the Golf R to the spec of the RCZ-R please as I can't seem to be able to do it!

Why should the RCZ not be on the cards if I bought a Golf R? There is only me and the wife so we found two cars we both liked, one was a hatch, one was a coupe, I really don't understand the point you're trying to make.

Great news. An hour ago I pulled up to the traffic lights in my GT Hdi. What should pull up alongside me? Only a Golf R. And then, as if by magic a Rcz R pulled up. We all eyed each other up, you know, the way you do. We all knew what was going to happen. Seat belts were tightened, engines were revved and launch control was engaged. Staring, unblinking we sat waiting for the lights to change. I felt my adrenaline rise. I knew I had to get the timing right. Gentle plips of the throttle, building higher and higher. And then all at once the race was on, red, Amber and then GREEN!!! My god the noise was electrifying!!!! Wheels spun, smoke pummelled up from the tyres and we were off!!! I'll tell you what lads. I got way better fuel consumption!!! ;-)

U'll be getting mid to high 20's shortly ;) but u don't buy an R which ever breed for the mpg. The noise is quite childish but addictive :).

Really...boring now Golf R v RCZ-R But compare the age/quality of the of the interiors of both cars...the RCZ'S Interior/ergonomics where dated even on the car's debut..way back...in 2010=rcz/308....sorry snazzy EXTRA red stitching doesnt do it for me

The Pugs interior is not worth the price tag,My Focus ST's interior is way better/of a better quality...£5000 cheaper

Probably just offering his informed and honest opinion.

I too have had good and bad experiences with both VW and Peugeot in the past having owned both makes amongst many others.

I also considered going for a Golf R, but after having driven both the RCZ and Golf, it was my informed and honest opinion that The RCZ would suit my current needs better.

I actually eventually opted for an upgraded spec Mk 2 GT200 as although I wanted performance, I also wanted all the gadgets I had on my previous car a Megane CC Privilege. (Bought purely for the cabriolet). And obviously the R has more power, but my 200 is a very slight compromise as it has every gadget and comfort I ever wanted, but with only a small reduction in power over the R. P.s. I actually think the interior is excellent although I agree the touch screen would have been nice.

I also could point out flaws with the Golf, as I could with the RCZ.

I don't know Tony, but I doubt that he was intentionally trying to spoil anyone's experience of their new car..............

albeit a VW on a Peugeot RCZ forum.

As for Ford's, well, the last performance Ford I had was a rear wheel drive Ford Escort Sport Mk1. It was more fun to drive than a bag full of Monkeys, but about as reliable as a Space shuttle called Challenger. I have no experience of modern Fords, other than I know if I saw an ST parked next to an RCZ, IMO it would be a bit like seeing a Burger next to a Fillet Steak

Just saying....... :eusa-whistle:

Hi All,

I have just purchased the RCZ R in Moroccan red, it is second hand and has minimal mileage on it and I got for a very good price.

As you can see from my posts I bought an RCZ in 2010 and had an awful experience and swore I would never by a peugeot again....but then came the R, OMG. Anyway to those who have the R, I'm praying it is as good as it sounds and I'm Soooo excited.....Please tell me I won't be disappointed :eusa-think:

I agree, I think this will become a classic and even though the residuals are low at the moment, I think it will get better

Welcome to the club!
You won't be. It took me some time to get "used" to the car (not in regards of usability, cause those RCZ are pretty easy to use on a daily basis) and to play with its limits but it was worth it. Absolutely.
Currently I've clocked over 13.000 miles from new and the fun and joy of driving is still there. I really like jump into her and drive her mad

I've just become an RCR-R owner and must say I am loving every moment so far, even if it means getting to know the petrol station employees very well.

Hi, I bought the Moroccan red and it was also second hand, but got a very good deal. I am loving it...but I am having problems with my iPod.
Basically it will play the ipod, but on the screen it says aux input only and if I want to change a track I have to do it in the iPod. What am I doing wrong?? Please help.

Should be easy & works for me.

I presume you're connecting your iPod via the USB socket in the centre console? It should connect automatically.

If not, press the 'music' button and then use the 4 way rocker switch to select 'Change Media'. Press the round centre control to select it and you should see a display with the various sources. Use the centre rotary control to move the selection to iPod. This should manually select your iPod.

If the iPod option is greyed out disconnect the USB cable then re connect. Navigating up and down the iPod menus is done on the left hand side of the screen after selecting it.

Also, have a good read of pages 291-296 of your handbook. Page 295 focuses specifically on Apple products but read the rest, too.

Let us know when you're sorted.
