RCZ R sees the new TT and sticks two fingers up at it

Good review posted for those of you who have limited funds, or just can'd be *rs&d to walk to the newsagents ;)

In this months EVO mag.

Frustratingly the reviewer had about run out of steam when it came to the shortish RCZ R review, which by all accounts beat off the brand new TT (of a similar price) with a large R shaped stick.
As its posted on a beemer forum obviously there are biased comments: RWD is best etc etc, from the uneducated who have not even seen the RCZ, never mind driven it.

Anyway - enjoy.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=493985

Both the rcz and TT got 4.5 stars :wtf: l have to say, this road test quartette of cars really is of a dreadfull choice for power comparisons/prices/equivalent models....the TT looks Awesome very sharp indeed  370z who buys them now  poor toyota/scooby like fish out of water in this road test, being NA and has only 197 bhp,the RCZ-R the Underdog V TT and with this new TT the RCZ has been truely pushed aside...l have driven one and its very slick indeed with a interior thats years in front of most cars....My son has driven the TTS the rightfull challenger to the RCZ-R....the TTS is faster than my S3...As the road tester said for sheer desirability nothing comes close to the new TT in this Superficial world of car ownership...sometimes its better to save for a wee bit longer to own something a bit more special.

DKZ... :) The new TT is a really cracking car and in my opinion worth every penny, as is the RCZ, yeah its cheaper with more equipment but there's no comparison in real world terms between the 2 car's other being similar shaped, but that road test was awefull

I don't think you have dissed the Toyo/Scuby pair really mate.
At the end of the day this was a bit of an apples'n'pairs test as far as the Jap car is concerned - in that there is a massive gap in price - I mean 10K will buy you a lot of aftermarket goodies.

Granted the inside of both Jap cars is dull, but I really like the GT86 - it was on my hit list when it came to buying a coupe, in fact all four of these cars was on the comparison guide for me.

What EVO should have done is thrown the blown GT86 reworked by Abbey Motorsport - or something similar.
A well spec'd GT86 with an Abbey Stage 1.5+SC car is £33k, throws out 270 gee-gees and 206 ftlb torque.

It was tested it here, by guess who - EVO  - bit of a palm-slap moment really:
http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evo..._abbey_motorsport_review_price_and_specs.html
That would have been a more interesting conundrum to mull over.

What Subaru and Toyota have done with the standard GT86/BRZ is make great cars at a really affordable price - to grab the younger market that are priced out by the other offerings.
Got to respect them for that.
just like to say that on a prev post re the mx5.. i mentioned the word jap.. and was warned it was a racist comment to the forrum, my question would now be.. is there an agenda against certain members? or ok for others?

Must have been a schoolboy error on my part. Apologies.
Maybe its your face mate. I can't really figure out why you rub people up the wrong way :D

Believe me mate (the BRZ to onside - coz as I also said it was a little unfair to put it in because it was 10K cheaper and hence underpowered/underspec'd), but the rest of these cars are not a bad selection. I've seen a lot worst comparisons.
The TTS mate? - really? How much is that exactly?? Not anywhere near £32k thats for sure.
It much rather a review compared similarly priced cars than similar spec'd cars when the price differential is so huge.
I absolutely like the TT - as I said it was on my 'next car choice' list, but at the end of the day there are far too many of them. They are great - of no doubt, but their creators have sanitized their R&H and they will be far, far too common.
Hence I chose the RCZ - along with the Nissan - the old boy in this test.

A TTS costs £40k its options list is the shortest i have ever seen on a configurator...so a fully loaded car £42 so its extremely well equipped, if similar options where available on a RCZ probably £36k 4wd,led headlamps...etc the Nissan 370z :eusa-think: l have read 2 road tests of the new Nismo 370Z Its a relic of a car even in its finest guise,l would rather have RCZ-R long before a 370z

Ah, Mr Jassy, well this made me laugh a little.
Quite creative with the numbers and re-spec'ing.
I have pretty much a fully loaded RCZ-R - ex-dealer MD's car - so it pretty much got everything. It would have been about £33k new
You can't suddenly redesign it, to put 4WD on it :wtf: , change the headlights etc etc. It is what it is.
Any comparison between FWD, RWD, AWD doesn't hold any water with me anyway. A car drives how it drives. Changing it away from the initial design to RWD, or AWD doesn't necessarily make any difference in the positive. "RWD is best" is for example a standard BMW response, and its not always true.
Anyway - that is pub talk.
As I say there is no point comparing something that is vastly more expensive than the R. The car chosen for this article was the right one - ie the one only slightly more expensive than the R - not significantly more expensive, and the old boy, 308 with a pretty top-hat I've afraid beat the new kid in town. - well according to EVO anyway

Obviously I am a tad biased - so take all the above with a small heap of sodium chloride

Peace.

P.S. At least we can agree about the 370Z. My sister had the dubious 'pleasure' of using her husbands boss's 370Z for several weeks while their delayed company car was sorted. Their backs still have yet to recover. Horrible Neanderthal of a car. Sounds good mind.

Of all arguments about Audi I like those about "I have 4WD!" the most. I hope all those Audi fanboys realize that in reality they do drive a FWD about 99% of the time. And only on occasions where the front loses grip, the wet clutch engages and makes it kind-of 4WD. But exactly that particular event makes the whole experience with Audi's "4WD" so dodgy. It is an ON and OFF and ON and OFF which drives anybody with sense for tactility mad. It is so hard to drive a clean line on the limit with those cars (just recently experienced in a 2014 S3)
And when it rains or snows, those Audi drivers are the slowest on the roads. What is the point of this useless 4WD anyway?

In Germany we have a saying about Audis. Those are "Skoda Exclusive". A bit uprated interior, some aluminium bagdes, there you go, Audi done.

Don't take it too personal, just drooling here...

Well "the slowest on the road" :eusa-think: let me say this,l have had a Focus ST MK3 250 BHP,Civic Type R FN2 200 BHP...Audi "DONT "advertise that its a "Four Wheel Drive System" Just the Quattro four wheel drive system...anyway my Audi grips far better in all driving conditions than both the ST and Type R with no torque whatsoever, the ST torque steered badly until the traction control was turned off even then it still did it, the S3 plants itself down onto the road far better than any front wheel drive car will....Quattro system

And this will give you a false sense of security, the only advantage that 4wd system has is off the line, thats it, a well set up fwd will still leave a 4wd car behind, this is not the 1990's any more, if you are still oblivious to the fact that fwd cars will be left for dead on a wet road by your S3 then you are in for a BIG shock when one happily passes you
You should drive a real AWD car if you want to see the differences, its not as big as you think
