What’s going on with the prices of the R, there is 1 one autotrader for £8,500,

mine will be worthless soon!

some bargains out there for someone in the market for an every day R.

The advert claims they have had a few of the common jobs done.

I'm not convinced those front discs are new. The C hooks look shallow. I think they've been skimmed rather than being brand new.

The wheels look terrible. An amateur at home effort.

Yes some bargains out there, don’t know what’s going on with the wheels, it has a poor MOT history too, budget tyres doesn’t look like it’s been loved.

For someone looking to get into one on a budget and just drive, them maybe worth it.

I still maintain you have to pay decent money for a good one with all the correct maintenance and jobs done.

I also wouldn’t call all the R/s out there exactly a bargain, they are money pits in my opinion.

Agreed, the price looks to be too good too be true especially if all of those are done properly. Tempted to check it out and see if the seller can provide proof of the work. But potentially checking out a completely different car first so if that falls through might go and check this out.

I had to do a double take on the alloy. If they did the bit around the bolt black, the would probably look much better.

Completely agree, can be false economy with some of the cheaper Rs as you will end up spending a lot more money in the long run rather than buying a great example for a bit extra money.

BTW, I messaged you to say saw your car advertised on eBay, reported it as it was dodgy and they took it down.

Yes thank you, Kerr had put me in the picture a few days before much appreciated.

Its getting really hard now to put a price on a decent R, trouble is you very rarely see good ones come up now.

when you say your looking at a completely different car, you mean a different make?

I thought yours was fairly priced when you were thinking of selling it. But yes, challenging to price it up. On the face of it, the black one that was very low mileage with 1 owner looked like such a bargain. That went fairly quickly.

I'm still thinking of replacing my Magnetic THP200 which got written off, bought back and fixed with an R. I really like the R when I test drove one last year but thinking perhaps I should get a completely different car to tinker with then go from there especially as I am still a bit fond of my Cat N Magnetic.

Not looking at anything special but quite fancy tinkering with the Smart Roadster Brabus coupe as never had a convertible and it's a bit different.

Good luck with that then, yes I think I was in the right ball park with price, but the current market is preventing me from going back too market, so I will keep on enjoying for a while longer as my summer car.

No it's not (R27 OUK) but you will probably get away with it for an indeterminate time if you only have it like that on the front as the plod are usually sat behind you...

As well as FPN, Fine or Rectification Notice.....In addition to this police action, the DVLA’s policy is that if a vehicle is stopped more than once with a number plate failing to meet regulations, the registration could be rescinded and the car would be issued with a new random number plate. Drivers who are stopped once and then fail to provide evidence that they have fixed the issue with their number plate could also have their registration number rescinded.

And if that's what our boys in blue spend their time doing it's no wonder the country is in the state it is!!

Isn't the point more that people know what they are doing is wrong and will get attention from the police, but they do it regardless? Aren't they needlessly taking up police time that could be used better elsewhere?

There are so many plates on the road with so much editing it is impossible to work out what it really should be.

I think the point is people get stabbed to death in broad daylight on our streets but the big issue is apparently some incorrectly spaced numberplates that literally nobody cares about... 🤷‍♂️

Look at how many drivers openly have heavily altered registration plates or don't even have one displayed. If it was an offence heavily clamped down on it wouldn't be such a vast issue.

Also the police officers dealing with traffic offences aren't the ones dealing with stabbings.

Altered registration plates and cloned plates are commonplace for criminal activity.

We all know there is a legal requirement for registration plates. You can't get these plates made up by any reputable source.

Blame the people not adhering.

I suppose it was a silly question really, as I did know the answer.

I didn’t know the bit about being stopped more than once the plate could be rescinded, so something new there.

Back on topic looks like the grey R has sold, not there now on AT, for me that was a decent car.

Off to Mathewson's today (bangers and cash) been meaning to go for a while, hoping to see plenty of stuff from my youth as I continue my week of work, hoping I don’t get the itch to buy, the R could be at risk lol.

I would only use the plates for car shows and the correct spacing for general road use., and any one with an R know what the plate mean....

I hope the grey R went for near what the Owner was asking, given it was on AT for a bit with the seller holding out so possibly not desperate to sell; it looked a solid car, many that have cropped up recently have looked somewhat ropey and are obviously daily driver's. I would still be looking for £14-15K if I sold mine now...no interest at that and I would keep it.

The amounts given for 'trade' or supposed AT pricing etc discussed and the constant vibe by some to drop the value of the R is odd, especially so when similar performance/machinery like a Megane RS is holding firmer. That said prices have fallen for cars; but a decent R is on the whole is still being priced more than in 2019 when I got mine....that seemed to be the bottom of the curve, who knows maybe it's a double dip?! Interestingly using web based/trade pricing is irrelevant for me (and many others) as I would not go near the trade in/PCP route and it can bite or prove ineffective when pricing modern classics; I had an MG TF which I sold 18 months ago, priced by the 'market' at the time at circa £1500. I sold it for £3500 to the first viewer (knew what it was and what he wanted) it was the model/extras to have in one of the best colours, low mileage and mint condition....when someone wants a decent example of an older car, rather than an obvious daily or worn/ragged shitter they are willing to pay for that.

What you’ve saved on the purchase price you’ll throw back into it quite soon. Unfortunately these will start to fall into the hands of folk that will probably not do that. Or have bodges done.

I want one in due course but I’ll pay for the right one. But there WILL be fewer about if and when that’s going to happen will all models. They’ll gradually disappear as repair bills get heftier. The survivors will eventually hold value and probably increase. If government doesn’t outlaw old cars.

my daughter did this. Stuck a heavily messed around with personal plate on her new car. I told her what would happen. She told me it wouldn’t.
It did 😂

and she did it in 4D with funny coloured highlights. She had them less than a week and got rumbled. She has plain 4D and proper spacing now. And listens a bit more to daddy 🙄
