LED Interior lights Done!!

Thanks Max 83.

I'm thinking of changing my interior lights to blue, probably using the standard 501 (5 watt) blue bulbs.

Not sure how to access the overhead light panel though. Can I prise off the clear plastic lens by using a small flat headed screwdriver or something similar? If so where are the clips situated? I'm terrified I might break the whole thing! Or do I gain access by removing the whole light cluster/overhead panel.

Your advice sought.

There are two holes on the side of the light (if you sit behind the wheel, to the left and right of the light). What i did, I put a flat screwdriver on the left and lift till it exposed a bit of the light on the side from where i used a second screwdriver to get leverage to clip the rest of the light off. Its a bit of a pain and stressfull as its a bit of a push. Just be careful to not scratch the black plastic surround. I did leave a small mark :wtf: but that was cos i was getting impatient and wasnt gentle

Thanks Max 83

Ordered the blue 501 bulbs today, hopefully the mood should turn blue in a couple of days............. hopefully my language doesn't turn shades of blue trying to fit them! :greetings-wavingblue:

I'll try and upload some pics.

So, if I wanted to change the 'dome' light and 2x courtesy door lights would I need 3x 501 LEDs? Got the courtesy door bulbs out and they look like them :eusa-think: can anyone confirm please?

Also, what are the footwell ones (just for completeness!) - are they 501s as well?

Thanks.

They are all the same if I remember right. Dome has 3 globes, doors 2 and footwell 2.

Thanks Max - that link you posted had a few different types of bulb, that's why I was checking.

Did some digging myself and the footwell and door lights are the same bulb (501), so it's just the dome I could do with confirming :eusa-think:

Dont look at the picture, that is not relevant, its just a generic picture the company use to advertise their product. I am pretty sure when the package arrived it was 4 packs of LED's, all of them the same.

I think the numberplate LED's are different. But the rest were all the same.

Thanks again - yes I tried my LED number plate ones and they didn't fit.

I have ordered some which look the same as the ones another member had used successfully on a another thread (which I managed to find after doing some digging).

I will report back on whether it works and a link to where to buy them from if they do. Tried getting to the lights in the 'dome' yesterday and gave up, what a nightmare that's going to be!

Yeah, the dome light takes some nerve! I've got 2 extra globes at home for the map lights but dont want to change them as I dont want to remove the dome light again...

Got the bulbs  fitted door ones  footwell lights fitted, but keep flashing  fitted one boot light, but when I try to fit the other one, the one just fitted starts flashing

Is it because they aren't canbus? I have no error lights on the dash with the door ones still fitted :eusa-think:

Hectic, maybe you got a dodgy batch. Compare it with the technical specs of the ones I listed on the first page.

I've got all of those but Xenons so wont do LED headlamps. Been thinking of doing HID Fog lamps though... but we very rarely use those...

Ok - for all those who want to do their interior lighting, I have succeeded. Re-ordered some canbus ones and they fit and all work perfectly (no flickering) as well as looking spot on! I chose ones with 8 LEDs (SMDs) on and like the light level, you may want to go higher its up to you. I wouldn't go for a lower number of LEDs.

These are the ones you need - next day delivery from the supplier as well as being reasonably priced - I chose a 4 pack to test and will order some more now (for boot and dome - done footwells and doorwells). Pack of 10 available as well.

Any qu's, please shout.

Updated: you need 10 in total (assuming dome light requires 3 ie. Footwell x2, doors x2, boot x 2, dome x3, 1x glovebox =10) so worth getting the 10 pack. They also come in green, blue and red (red maybe of interest to you Amber's/Moroccans), but I chose xenon white.

Just been out in the dark to take a photo. Wow - the effect is wicked! When the follow me home lights all come on and you open the door to the xenon white, looks great (even better from the back with the white no plate lights and doors open). Can't wait for the winter now!

The yellow dome light looks awful now so looking forward to getting the rest of the bulbs and somehow getting access to that dome!

At £13 for 10, now you all know the correct bulbs from a UK supplier, this has to be such a worthwhile and cost effective enhancement!

They look good. Are they easy to fit?
