Help please!

Newbie here, just bought a 60-plate RCZ GT 156THP from Fords of Winsford and within 24 hours it's developed 2 faults. The first says there is a battery charging / electrical fault when I put the key in the ignition and then when I turn the ignition on it says Engine Fault Needs Repair. Only had the thing for a few hours ... is this typical ..? :thumbdown:

Certainly never come across the first fault "battery charging / electrical fault" the second one is more familiar. As Snowy says and as I'm sure you will be doing take it back from whence it came and get the faults rectified.

By the way :text-welcomewave: to the forum. Come back and let us know how you get on and tell your thoughts on the RCZ once it is not causing you grief :wave:

Thanks guys ...! Only trouble is the dealer is about 40 miles away and I don't want to drive it now with these faults. They can't pick it up 'til next week (even though the AA, Green Flag & RAC work 24 hours ...Hmmm) so I'm now stuck without a means of transport to get to work on Monday. Suffice to say that it's going to have to be something very special to get over this start to life as an RCZ owner ...

They are only warnings and the chances are they are erroneous ones. How is the car performing? Does it drive normally or is it in "limp home" mode?

If you are going to be stuck and can't get the AA to deliver it back to them then I'd be tempted to try disconnecting the battery and or doing a reset in an attempt to clear the fault warnings. Battery is easy to disconnect and no tools are required, you simply lift the lever on the terminal. No setting are lost as it resets once reconnected.

It should be under warranty? Peugeot use the AA press the peugeot connect button on the dash and discuss issue with them

Thanks, I didn't know you could do that! Will give both a go and let you know. The car drives brilliantly, I love everything about it (apart from what I'm hoping are just some teething probs) I really appreciate the help, thanks very much!

Let me just explain the full process, this worked for me. Peugeot Roadside Assist described this to me over the phone. It was this, or get a tow truck. There is no way my pearl is getting towed

Using the remote, lock and unlock the car three times in a row.

Take the car for a kilometre drive.

Turn the car completely off and lock.

Unlock and start the car as normal.

Hi, tried all 3 things (though in my ignorance I couldn't find the -ive terminal for the battery) but all it did was wipe out the date & time on the sat nav screen. The Peugeot Assist call didn't work and although after 3 locks & unlocks with the remote control it stopped working and I had to open the car with the key, thus setting off the alarm, both faults are still there ... guess I'm just stuck 'til Monday.

Happy days in your household :thumbdown: All of the times and stuff come back automatically when battery is reconnected. Have never needed to do the reset personally.

Try calling Peugeot Assistance on 0800 294 0294 They should call out the AA and get you sorted :helpme:

Nope, not covered under Peugeot Assistance either and my AA membership only covers me for Roadside not Home Start ... going from bad to worse ...! :brickwall:

Yes, it was registered in October 2010 but I phoned Peugeot and they said it's only covered for a year. I'll just wait and see what happens on Monday. Thanks for your :helpme: though :thumbup:

I had the same "Battery Charging / Electrical Fault" and "Engine Fault Needs Repair" messages recently, the dealership had it for three days and replaced the turbo water pump.

They come with a three year warranty not one. Have you got everything back now? Ie. times & dates ect

The RCZ comes with a three year warranty so I would get back in touch with your dealer and tell them to learn something about the cars they sell. This will be fixed under warranty and if your dealer won't cooperate, contact another one who will be interested in helping you. I hope you get your car sorted soon.

Sorry........... It hasn't done that with anybody else. Always simply reset itself with a couple of button presses from you to accept the settings.

Sorry to keep being a pest but it also seems like the engine isn't getting warm when the car is moving. Is this normal? When I was driving it earlier the temp gauge barely got above zero despite some motorway miles. When I let it idle on the driveway the temperature did go up and I switched the engine off before it got into the red zone. This never happened on my Freelander, it's temp was always bang on half way over the dial. :?

You will not be surprised to hear, no that is not normal. The temp rises to approx mid way point within a couple of minutes of driving. You defiantly appear to have a sensor issue there.

Okay thanks ... I've decided to give up on it, I'm sending it back and getting a refund. Having read all the problems on here I've lost all faith in the vehicle. I wish I'd read this a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for your help & all the best.

So very sorry to read that. The RCZ is an amazing car. Great looks, a fantastic drive, fuel efficient, I could go on but if it's not right for you :wave:
