Booked in for Monday. Hopefully it's a quick, cheap fix and the first thing the code reader finds. I really don't want to be in and out of the garage constantly messing around for ages with mounting bills or I'll quickly lose patience with it

If they use Peugeot specific diagnostics they should find the problem easily.

So... looks like:
- Some oil pump issue
- ECU software update recall
- timing chain

looking like about a grand's worth of work...

I had a call from my garage aswell last tuesday saying that the car had 3 faults.

One was a cooling pump for the turbo that was not working at all apparently.

Second was a coil/ignition thing that had failed so the car only ran on 3 cylinders.

And then the timing chain rattled so they were gonna look into that someday now to see what's up with that. Haven't heard from them yet tho.

The service guy said he was gonna call Peugeot's "head office" or something to see if they were willing to pay for the timing chain issue thing but i really don't have any hopes for that, cause never in my lifetime have i seen someone paying for that kinda stuff if they didn't really have to.

Whole thing sounds terribly expensive to me and im not happy at all :(

hi can you help just had my Timing Chain Tensioner and other bits done to the car done for a the second time within 2 years.. my rcz has just done 40k ..is this bad luck or is it time to change time car..i just dont know what to do?..

Hi Peter, this is not just bad luck :eusa-think: who did the work for you? Your first timing kit should have been warranted for instance recently had my wife’s Mini Cooper S timing kit done which is the same engine and the parts were warranted for 2 years but this is a kit that should in theory last 100k but due to poor original design that no one will own up to pug/Citroen/BMW and unless your kit fails during the manufacturers warranty you haven’t got a cat in hells chance of any help from the manufacturer.
As long as you have ensured your oil level has not dropped to a critical level then there is no way your timing kit has failed again within 2 years.
I would suggest that it’s possible that not all the new kit was fitted the first time round and which has now failed, I know that early problems with the timing kit led to the replacement of only the chain tensioner but there is also an issue with the guides so you may have only had the tensioner changed first time round :eusa-think: this is a specialist job and I would only entrust to either a Peugeot/ Citroen/BMW specialist preferably one with some positive reviews.
I’ve found that most problems reported on the forum regarding timing kit replacement problems have been due to independent none specialist workshops doing the work.
A good specialist should be charging no more than £600 all in for the work including using genuine parts.

Hope this helps good luck with your repair.

Hi All

New to the forum but owned my Darcy for 3 years and the salesman was right, I love this car. I never keep them more than 18 months.

But.... had this Engine Fault Repair Needed message a few times recently - always when on the motorway at high speed and accelerating. Engine then seems to just give up on me and I have no throttle til I stop and restart. Sadly did this on a 150 mile round trip yesterday when I just could not turn around. Read through the thread and as a result have checked oil level - this is fine - also checked under oil cap - no sign of gloopy mayonnaise. I plan to do the reset tomorrow as I've had a gin :wtf: In addition to this, the air con doesn't work. I was told a couple of years ago it needed totally stripping out and would cost £600 - £800  so I open the window.

So, as I have no desire to invest a huge sum in this car (2011 plate) I'm considering whether to part ex for a 2015 plate version that has the sat nav system i originally wanted or to invest in this car as other than this problem it has been no problem for the last 3 years. Any thoughts on what the cost might be for fixing this those of you that had the same problem - I can potentially get a newer one for around £5k when I trade mine in.... advice appreciated though I realise the choice is totally my responsibility

A second opinion re the air con might be a good idea, if it’s blowing, but not cold, it might just need a recharge, they do recommend every two years, although mines 5 now & going fine.
HP fuel pump & coil packs are always up there in the usual suspects.
It’s always nice to get a new car though, and a Mk2 will be a change for you. I think I would be tempted to go down that line. :eusa-think:

I don't have fault codes as haven't taken it into garage yet. I did have them try to regas the aircon and put a dye in it and thats when they came back with the silly price. You're right tho I will take it in and at least find out what the dealership think it might be, and assume it could take a further 3 trips to get to bottom of it

That said, I am tempted by the mk2 version and particularly the sat nav, so cant hurt to look

Symptoms sound like Hp fuel pump not a big deal to change but a little costly, if you’ve got the cash and want the newer car it’s probably a good time to trade. :eusa-think:

A quick google of HP fuel pump shows a cost of around £100 for the part and with labour added probs around £300-400 (though maybe its time I learned to fix cars myself!). That and the fact i'd like air con again...

I'm swaying towards an updated version. Looking at a white one instead of my red. I wish they still made these I'd love one with Alexa built in

What is the mileage on your RCZ?

You can get cheap ODB2 scanner and read error codes. I paid like 5 eur for my ODB2 scanner and in my case it showed error code P0087 - Fuel/Rail System Pressure Too Low (pretty common issue). Now i always carry ODB2 scanner in my RCZ.

HP fuel pump for RCZ costs around 500 eur and labour should cost no more than 100 eur.

If it turns out to be HP fuel pump, here is a video of how to change it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WNEgWk34sw

Also, if you are going to buy HP fuel pump, make sure you get correct one, because £100 is way too cheap for HP fuel pump. And don't buy used one. THP156 and THP200 uses different HP fuel pumps so search by your VIN number or engine code.

And of course, these are just our guesses so diagnostic is recommended before buying anything costly.

I think you've had some great advice here VikkiLee23, but it is upto you and I have seen horror stories on here of people being charged £1500 + for fuel pump issues, so in that case I'd lean towards the newer car with Sat-nav.

For me when I go searching for a car and get not quite what I was after, I end up buying another because it always eats me away until I get what I originally wanted. With the cost so close, another £5k on top for a 15 plate - seems good economics - plus the all important Sat-Nav.

Good luck and don't forget to post what you do eventually do, and some pics would be nice.

On a thought here Z'ers......

Now this will hurt some but hopefully most will understand where I am coming from.

This car is going to get chopped in most likely and then sold on to either a trader or unsuspecting public. Wouldn't it be good if the car, by either plate or VIN / model, ( VIN really ) had a computerised file that held all this information about past history and faults, including things like repairs - which could not be erased by a dealer, so that the next person can get the full story and the seller would have to put these problems right before selling.
This will have losers and winners, but the last thing you would want is to buy a " Lemon " because that's what you'd think and really it's a sick RCZ that someone has pushed back into the market ? This would restore confidence and lesson the chance of buying a lemon - gotta be a good thing.

I remember buying a 307cc ( one of many - lol ) which had 87K miles on clock, so I got the timing belt changed at a cost of about £350 - turns out it had already been done - but the garage did it again anyway cos that's what I asked them to do. Now that should have been recorded with the cars history. This would also show a cars reliability and help stay clear of bad ones...

Just a thought for the industry.

Cheers M.

Another possible cause might be thermostat (also pretty common issue on RCZ). If this is the case then it is not that expensive.

It is time to take your car to Peugeot specialist

I get where you're coming from with the register of faults so people don't get rid and leave someone else with the problem and I've had cars that have problem after problem so agree in principle.

My 11 plate performance car has 18,000 miles on the clock as I do very little mileage. For a blonde hottie I drive like an old man :eusa-whistle: and this car has hit 80mph about 5 times in the 4 years I've had it. For all I know it had this problem when I bought it but only went fast enough to trigger it recently? I've treated my Darcy to new tyres that protect alloys and re-diamond cut my alloys. Always looked after and serviced annually. As I was made redundant last year I'm not in a position to throw money at a 7 year old car but I do have a bit of redundancy money to upgrade if this could get me another RCZ with some warranty or if not too expensive I could get Darcy fixed and live with no sat nav or air con.

I looked at another today and for a newer car it hadn't been looked after as well as mine, it didn't feel like an extra £5k car (even with sat nav!) and I wasn't sold on the white version (sorry guys I see a lot of white ones on your profiles!). The garage ran the diagnostic to get me the codes.

Googled codes and looks like what was said above - thermostat and turbo issue which has caused an overheat code (yay I'm a google expert  ). Just need to find a garage to quote me on all this now as I'm not paying dealership prices....

Will astound you with pics of Darcy once fixed (my alloys are ACE!)
