Can't say I've ever had a smell after changing the cabin filter.
Although you never know.
Maybe give it a few days see if it fades.

I had an issue with one of my 407s. It decided one day it didn't fancy shutting the driver's side front window correctly (the same one that broke it's own window regulator on the rear for no reason)
So after swearing at it whilst getting wet driving to work I assumed it wanted a BSI reset.
No...
Or, now here's a real simple one.
It hasn't been bumped in to anything or had anything bump in to it?
I'm thinking fuel inertia cut off switch.
I suffix this by saying, I'm assuming Zs have one...

I would assume spinning over and not firing would be something simple, but he says spinning over fast.
As in faster than it should.

Hmm yes, spinning over fast could mean no or low compression.
Not heard of that on here before (to my knowledge)
So it literally went pop? No signs or symptoms at all? No loss of coolant or steam from the exhaust? Over heating?
No excess oil usage or clattering sounds?
The cement mixer HDi is pretty bomb proof.
Not as 100% reliable as some crow about but pretty good.
Mainly dpf issues if you drive like a Grandma.

Fault codes do not necessarily mean there are issues.
As an example:
I've had two 407s. Both had fault codes for door mirrors and electric window modules.
Everything worked so no problem ;)
