I'll assume based on previous experience they're using equipment that can't interrogate the rather picky Peugeot/Citroen ECUs.
The only equipment I'd ever recommend is a laptop and Diagbox/Peugeot Planet, exactly what a dealer would use.

Not 100% on this, but I'm sure used either the window control panel on the driver's side or the heated seats. For earth I used a metal dash bracket. Seemed to work fine.

The hard drives can fail. Though there is a way around this, and you can fit a flash card in to them.

From my very rudimentary understanding (from previous Peugeot HDIs) the air doser copies the EGR.
EGR open = doser closed.
EGR closed = doser open.
I assume you're getting codes/running faults?
Be prepared for a lot of faffing with that one. Especially if you have the JBL upgrade.
Peugeot like to make it as difficult as possible to replace head units. Even as far back as 2001 when I had my 406 I needed about 3 patch leads to make an Alpine head unit work in it.
