There is a reset procedure in the handbook it could just be that due to low battery power it’s lost it’s position memory?
If that doesn’t sort it it will be a faulty regulator which are quite costly to replace
Yes when the cable starts to fail the screen flickers it doesn’t restart the system, I’ve had something similar and I pulled the fuse for a few minutes seemed to cure it but as already suggested I would install an software update as it’s probably never been done
There’s a lot of RCZ’s out there on the market, but very few nice ones that have been properly looked after, they’re such a gorgeous car it’s hard to walk away from cars that just don’t cut it but the right car is out there.
This is what I put on mine, don’t be put off doing it yourself it’s a doddle just remember to let all the electrical systems shut down first before disconnecting and then after reconnecting 5-10 minutes is ample but I have heard that the Diesels need around 40 minutes after reconnecting

I were the same as you, had never been to a car meet then bought the RCZ went along to a Yorkshire meet and never looked back! Not the burnouts in Asda car park type of meet...
Obviously all that work hasn’t sorted the original issue and we hear this so often as mechanics get lead down the wrong path with diagnosis and this is why people slag the RCZ off as a money pit!
It could still be something quite simple many issues will bring on limp mode it’s just tracking...
There’s no real harm in having a go yourself if you’re not happy with the result you can always have them professionally refurbed there are even companies that will do it on your drive!
mid you do have a go post some before and after photos for us it may help others in the future
Sorry to hear your dilemma you could vinyl wrap them with a tinted film, this is something some owners do anyway which gives the car a different look this may possibly hide the damage?
Nice one for giving it a go, with the guy on eBay doing a repair service it’s obviously something that can be fixed you just need the parts and the tools 👍🏻
