Right...can some fine residents of Yorkshire help Donna and me out?! Can someone please tell us which towns are close by to the area of the meet. We are really struggling to find reasonably priced accommodation that's close to the area of Blakey(?) and cannot find a detailed map of the area. The only sight that allows us to find any accommodation using the postcode for the Lion Blakeyis booking.com and it's producing very few hits within a 20 mile radius. Please bear in mind that this is going to cost 2.5 - 3 tanks of fuel for my car and 1.5ish (I'm guessing) for Donna so that's around £170 for me just in fuel before I sort accommodation, meals and drinking money (the latter might be the same again if it's being done right...) so wherever we stay has to be good value for money but nothing ghetto...we (well Donna at least) have standards to uphold.:lol::lol: Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Many thanks in advance!

Blakey Ridge is literally the highest point on the Moors therefore there's nothing but the beautiful Moors around the Inn.

Why don't you stay at the Inn, it seems reasonable?

The nearest village to Blakey Ridge is Hutton Le Hole, which is very pretty, then there is the small market town of Helmsley. There are some places to stay there, here's some links

Helmsley

I'll have a look for some more for you both.

Thanks RCZ1! Yarm doesn't look far away when I enter the details in the old tinternetsuperhighway.web...is it? I found a pretty cool place around there to stay.

Yarm isn't too far away but I would also consider Stokesley, which I think is on your route and has a few places to stay although I haven't stayed there myself.

I could recommend a very nice abode at Wynyard, which is on your route. The only thing is I'd have to have a word with my sister... She lives in a mansion ..... I'm sure she'd look kindly on you both :)

mrizzle and myself have managed to get ourselves rooms here..... (thanks for booking it Matt!)

http://www.booking.com/hotel/gb/the-moo ... 67e;dcid=1

Still a few rooms left if anyone is looking for somewhere to stay, it would be cool if more could join us :) .... it's the next village along from Kirbymoorside and 9 miles from the pub that RCZ1 muted as the rendevous point in the moors.

So RCZ1 .... is it still a 1230 meet time?? - don't think we'll be there for then ... but if you guys wanted to drive first then meet up for a late lunch/early dinner then we could make it :) .... we want to be in the photos!!!

Due to the very long drive that our Scottish members have and there are others from the South of the country too, can I ask if anyone has any objections to changing our plans slightly?

Maybe meet 2-2.30pm at the Lion Inn for a meet and greet, go for a drive around the Moor then make it back to the Lion Inn for a meal at 4.30pm?

Please let me know if this fits with your plans and you are agreeable, especially those of you who have confirmed their attendance.

Thanks :)

I am certainly the first and may also be the last to say that the proposed revised plans, do not meet with my approval. I feel the day will be cut too short by so doing. I fully appreciate the journey and the effort that our esteemed Scottish contingent are making and I am extremely happy for the opportunity to meet one and all. However I feel that as the proposed date in sufficiently far enough in the future that there is ample time to make the necessary arrangements, in order to arrive in good time.

I attend many different types of functions and will make plans to set off early or travel down the day prior to the event. The idea of arriving late is not option for me and would always arrive on time or early. It was a great event the last time it was held and this one has the potential to be better supported and at least as much fun if not more. Time really is a vanishing commodity at these type of events and I really would recommend that we allow plenty of it and not reduce the day by a full two hours. The driving element of the day is a huge feature and really would be curtailed by such a drastic reduction in the time frame now being proposed.

I understand your concerns and appreciate your frankness RON but, as I will be at work on the Friday and have a prior engagement to attend a gig (arranged last April), travelling down the night before is simply not an option for me. Nor is expecting us to make arrangements to ensure that we "arrive early or at least on time". Given that Donna and myself will be undertaking a 6.75hrs journey (more likely to be 7.75hrs with coffee and refuelling stops), I think what you're expecting of us is unreasonable. Especially once you factor in the cost for us with the expense of fuel, food, refreshments and a night's accommodation. This will already cost me somewhere close to the price of a week in Barcelona...and now you think we should travel down the night before? Sorry RON...but...I (personally) think your comments are rather unfair and ill considered.

I'm sorry you feel this way Ron, and the fact that those of us travelling HUNDREDS of miles, spending HUNDREDS of £££s in doing so, is going to spoil your day. But I fail to see how 'we' are spoiling it .... all that we suggested is that the meal time is changed to be more like dinner than lunch. We are not stopping the majority of you still meeting at the original time. May has long daylight hours, who's to say there won't be time for an evening drive too perhaps.

If we're cramping your style Ron, then we (I) can always cancel our plans?

I have met Ron at the last Yorkshire Meet and he is very enthusiastic and friendly so I understand why he feels the day may be shortened, as the time goes by so quickly.

I agree lunch should be nearer lunchtime as suggested, but there is nothing stopping people from arriving early or having a mini meet prior to the main event.

I for one am looking forward to seeing you all especially RCZ1s Moroccan red I trust she will have it by then.

I admire our Scottish members what they are doing is beyond the call of duty I hope we can make the event worth their while and they enjoy it as much as we all did last time.
