Wheel Clear Coating

Hello.

Looking for the best stuff to protect new wheels.

The wheels are clear coat lacquered but I want better protection for easier cleaning and of course the best look possible all of the time.

So what do the experts recommend?

Gtechniq C5 easy to use lasts about 18 months. Just wash with car shampoo no wheel cleaner needed.

Ordered today. Wheels will be here in a couple of weeks, then they will be customized, then protected with C5.

Erm...I'd wholeheartedly disagree with you there I'm afraid. In fact I think I'd say that there's a lot better than Auto Glym products.

With the C5 being £22 a bottle.Is it Alloy Wheel Armour ? Roughly how many wheels would this be enough to do ?
Started getting some cleaning products to keep the car clean. Only problem is I live in a top floor flat. Only 2 stories.
No way of getting a hose pipe down to car. And no outside tap. Buckets of water would be a workout by itself.
I go to the Car Hand wash. The Turkish men though do a top job for a Fiver.
There is so many new products I really cant decide which would be the best for me ? :?

My Range Rover is one of the best looking Cars in London and has a shine that drivers wish for
Always getting chauffeurs asking what products I use ...autoglym is the product don't get me wrong want to spend 65000 on a wax then hey go ahead but as a normal priced product I have been through them all and this gives the best detail at the end but this does not mean a basic polish I a talking using them the way they should be used is Sunday all day I used a hi def wax and a gloss polish on top for my RCZ and now its amazingly shiny

As long as you're happy with the results of your chosen product then that's the main thing. I'm not going to niggle about it. I'll respect your opinion, whether I agree with it or not.

I will, however, point out that you shouldn't be claying any part of your car without first thoroughly washing the car, stripping any products that are currently on the panels, fully decontaminating the paintwork and removing any tar spots. However, perhaps you intend on doing this and I've misinterpreted your post. :eusa-think:

C5 15ml bottle will do all 4 of your alloys quite easily. Don't over apply it. It spreads far and you leave it for 30 seconds or so before WIPING the residue NOT rubbing. Don't let it dry before you remove the residue AND don't apply in very cold weather or it won't cure properly. The alloys need to be kept dry for 12 hours or more..

A word of caution though - C5 needs to have fully cleaned, fully decontaminated, panel wiped, alloys before it is applied. From what you stated above, I'm not sure how you are going to do this? If the full preparation is not done properly then C5 won't protect your alloys as it should. It may be that C5 is not for you on this occasion and you should seek alloy protection which is not so fussy about its prep?

Thanks RCZ1, It is difficult to keep my RCZ as clean as I want it but trying to use products that will give it as much protection as possible in-between proper hand washes. I've considered Diamond Bright coating. or glasscoat. Do you think this might be a good option ? I know its not cheap but would offer full protection. Is there any body out there that would recommend this option ?

I had my car diamond bright treated by the dealer prior to picking it up. All I ever do now is a quick wash & leather, and everyone says it looks so shiny, so I guess that it does work well. The dirt does come off very easily, and the odd tar spot seems to come off easily too.

One note, I paid the dealer nearly £300 for the treatment.
My daughter recently bought a brand new Seat Ibiza FR and couldn't afford to have the treatment done, so I looked on Fleabay & found both Stage1 & 2 diamond bright treatment (easily enough for more than one car) with no bids. I won the auction for £6.01 and we did her full car in an afternoon. :eusa-think:

Wish I'd waited now & looked before I paid for mine doing, but I am very happy with the result so :eusa-whistle:

There is a care pack available for diamond bright, also found on eBay which consists of shampoo, conserver & glass treatment. I have used the shampoo every time I wish the car & the conserver once a month or so. Seems to make a difference, water goes very bobbly afterwards.

The glass treatment is just like rain x which I have also used & would recommend, especially for the screen.

I used Autoglym alloy wheel sealer on my wheels, seems to make them easier to clean.

Just looked on fleabay, stage 1 & 2 £6.49.
Got a quote off diamondbright for them to do it £250. Inside and out protection.
Still not sure what to do but will get the autoglym alloy wheel stuff for now while I'm making up my mind.
The brake discs are priority at the moment.
If I can get a finish anywhere near the one you have on yours then I will be happy to pay them to do it properly.

DKZ5745 gave excellent advice regards diamondbright. It's worth nothing like the dealers want to charge for it. Buying it on eBay and applying it yourself is a good solution. However, like all coatings, the paintwork needs to be fully prepped and decontaminated properly before applying. Otherwise it won't last anything like it's supposed to. If you are able to apply something like Diamondbright, then I would suggest that you apply C5 to your alloys AND if you buy a bigger bottle, you can apply it to your paintwork and trim too and it will last longer than Dismondbright.

You've read the trouble I have in actually keeping the car clean. I'm Not lazy in any way. It's just I want the job done properly and to last. I've not got a great deal of knowledge when it comes to the kind of care that most of you have for your cars.
But I am willing to learn and this is just the place to get good advice.
I've also got an issue with the silver arches. Looks like water marks but don't come off when washed.
I think I've seen another post about that so gonna check them out now.

A well known problem with the chrome arches. If they are really bad you may be able to get them replaced on warranty. Polishing with Dodo Juice Lime Prime may help reduce the marks.
