Hi al, new to the forum. Had my car for two weeks now no problems whatsoever, until half an hour ago!!!!!!
Coasting to a roundabout at approx 10 mph when BANG!!!!!!! up pops the bonnet backwards towards the windscreen, seems like the rams have gone off on either side of the car....... My little five year old girl is still in shock!!!!!!!!
I have popped the bonnet back down now but am left with gaping panel gaps and a couple of lovely dents on either side of the bonnet.......
Anybody else heard of this problem????????
If not then beware as i would not like to think what would happen had i been on the motorway.........
Your comments/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Confused/p*ssed off new car owner!!!!!!!

Never heard of anything similar and hopefully it is a one off. But all will be sorted I'm sure. Just pop back to the dealer from whom you bought it from. Damn scary though

Thanks for that. Its a lease car though, any thoughts on what they would think? Don't think that they would be too happy with Peugeot!

its the explosive cartriges at each side under the bonnet that have trigered off for some reason. they should only fire off durring a front end accident, and designed to bee pedestian friendly if you hit one.stops a pedestian hitting the screen.

Wow

This is a new one

You are the first on here to report such a problem - certainly not heard of such a thing in the last 12 months.
As you say, good job you were going so slow - still VERY frightening I would imagine.

Hopefully, this really is a one-off and you have just been mega unlucky.

Keep us updated on the outcome of this one

PS: Did you check for any small kids lying around on the floor after this happened :!: ;) :eusa-whistle:

I've looked at you description a couple of times and I still can't get my head around what you have said, did the bonnet lift at the front and come back on you or did it lift at the back only which lifts the bonnet (back only) to prevent damage to a pedestrian.

'Hi Rob. It lifted at the back where the two rams are. I've put the rams back down and the bonnet but it is misaligned now (the gaps).
Looking at the wiring loom on both rams then the passenger side seems to have crumbled where as the drivers side is still intact even though they both fired off.....
Peugeot have e-mailed me already to say that they will investigate as to what happened.
Hopefully it is just a one off, unfortunately it happened to me!
Gutted!!!!!!

It sounds like a wiring problem - but not a nice thing to happen any way. The problem is the bonnet is very soft as it's made from aluminium so any knocks and bangs will show.

If this is true Dave then I hope that (if) there is an issue with the bonnet system then Peugeot will sort it out asap.
To be fair to Peugeot they were on it first thing this morning (e-mailed before i had even risen!)
Further telephone call and a follow up e-mail just to confirm that they will be sending an engineer direct to look at my car.
Up to now they (Peugeot) have been up to speed......
BUT!!!!!!!!
I do have to wait until the 25th to have my car (diagnosed? :wtf: ???) as this is the first available courtesy car date that the dealer had.
I have told the dealership that i am willing to drive the vehicle around until then as i simply cannot do without transport.....
Thanks for the info anyhow.........

So let's just recap, Peugeot are more than prepared for you to drive a car, which will not react to a accident with a pedestrian in the correct manner - ENCAP approval out the window, also for you to drive a car which has a damaged bonnet which technically is faulty but also does not fit. I think someone wants their arse kicking for that - totally unacceptable.

Peugeot have been in touch this morning to say that they will be providing me with a RCZ courtesy car and they are bringing forward the booking.
I think the delay was purely down to the dealership not the manufacturer.
Will post as/when this happens.......

OK - I should think so, the dealership should know better, this is a major safety feature of the car.
