Hey everyone ,
I have a 2013 1.6 turbo and was looking for some advice regarding tuning . I’m mostly looking for advice on the best way to reduce the amount of turbo lag as it takes ages for the turbo to kick in

any help would be grateful

thank

Hi ,
yeah I was thinking of doing that just looking to see if anyone had done anything with there cars .
ive already put an induction filter on it and have also done a back box delete with twin carbon tips on it and it’s sounding really nice with some pops out the back

Has it always been like that? There shouldn't be any lag. You should be planting your heavy right foot and the car should be off near instantaneously. The fact it isn't means there is an issue somewhere so that's what you need to get to the bottom of first...

The THP156 has a quite significant lag, while the THP200 and THP270 have not.
As far as i know this is mainly due to the Variable Inlet Valve Lift which only THP 200 and 270 have. (All THPs have Variable Valve *Timing*).

On my THP 156 in lower revs (<2200 rpm) the lag to full power feels like 2 seconds.

As a side note, there are numerous reports of the THP150 engine before the reliability-ECU-Update having had a much more direct response. So a remap on the THP156 might help.

Well there's zero lag on mine so I don't know what your 2 second delay is all about...

Hi guys, mine seems fine...but how do you actually go about getting a 'remap'? Dealer?
Is this basically a change to the ECU software?

The 200 & R have twin spool turbos if you want more power consider fitting a bigger turbo & intercooler ?

My understanding is that remapping is done because most car engines can actually handle quite a lot more than the factory settings they are released with. This is often due to ensuring a car meets emission standards across all European countries, as well as occasionally meaning a manufacturer can release a sneaky sport model later that simply has different ECU settings.

From everything I've read, the most important thing to do when getting a remap is to ensure you do it through a reputable company that will test the car as they tweak the ECU settings. This ensures your engine is not being pushed beyond its mechanical limitations.

I'm getting my RCZ 200 done in March through these guys: Do you own a Peugeot RCZ? Gain up to 19% of torque!

Someone on this forum took their car to a dealer & asked about their warranty validation if the car was remapped the dealers reply was the safety limit would be around 230 bhp without compromising the warranty but was that true ?

I can't speak for warranty validation as I bought my RCZ without one. The Celtic tuning guys are quoting 235hp achieved through a remap of the 200, but it's not a one size fits all remap done by them, they can tweak and change upon request.

I never find myself ever going above 80mph tbh, so a huge jump in bhp isn't hugely necessary for me. I'm super keen on the torque increase as I find my RCZ 200 to be a little mild in the low revs of the first 2 gears before the turbo kicks in properly.

Question is do you need more power from a 200 as mine has plenty of kick once its off the leash as you say your cruising along nicely at 80 which considering fuel cost's will save you money I don't thrash mine through the revs no more & 60 is my cut off point unless I'm on a motorway the trick to keeping the power at its peak is service the engine properly clean oil/air filter & plugs changed when needed + a dose of 99 RON fuel helps & tyre pressures are also important

I don't need more power, but that doesn't mean I don't WANT it 😆

I only ever put V-Power in my engine and I've recently spent a small fortune on a set of premium tyres, so all good on that front.

Definitely getting the remap done, but I'll be taking even better care of my engine once it's done. I'm pretty low mileage (30,500 currently) so luckily no big issues on the horizon (knocks on wood)

I had my 200 remapped by Celtic - took me up to 235bhp for the stage 1 remap - have been very pleased with the improvement in acceleration. I have wondered about the R, but honestly this feels pretty good.

Sweet. I initially wanted to go with Celtic, but they passed me on to no fewer than 3 garages who all just ignored me lol.

Ended up taking my RCZ to a BMW/Mini specialist for my stage 1 as although they didn't offer as much hp as Celtic, their map delivered more torque.

The remap on the 200 is a game changer though, changes the car from a fast cruiser to a B road monster!

I've got more torque than a stock R now, so I'd do well enough keeping up with one unless it was a race in a straight line :)

As an update to my Celtic remap, I reverted it last November (2023).
I had a number of problems appear after the remap that I lived with for too long:
- "pinking" (pre-ignition) - initially thought it was an exhaust blow
- very "digital" pick-up on the accelerator, extremely difficult to drive in any kind of traffic, or to get a smooth gear change
- engine misfires and multiple experiences of "limp home" problems.

To be fair the performance was better on a good day with the re-map, but the misfiring was really annoying and concerned me that I would damage the engine. I felt that performance was really dependent on engine temperature, and often better when cold.

Back on the initial map, these issues disappeared. Spoke a lot to Celtic, but they weren't able to confirm how many RCZ re-maps they had done.
I suspect that their re-map hasn't been thoroughly tested.
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been pleased with the re-map from Celtic?

All I know is that a bad remapping can ruin an engine, which is why I will never do it.

Are you sure all the changes made have been reverted?

You may have to go to an official Peugeot garage and have them reinstall the original software.

I think you're wise....a decent remap usually with a dyno will achieve a decent performance gain and reliability...a flashed generic remap from an untested source could be disastrous especially on the THP...there are a few horror stories on here with the 156, 200 and 270 all causing issues pre detonation on a direct injection turbo charged engine is a killer. Some on here have destroyed their engines and subsequently their bank balances.

Just been on their website...they have a picture of a Ferrari F430 apparently they supply plug and play ecu chip tuning for such...as if!?

E.g.

I still have a few misfires shown after reverting the re-map (but they are never logged), but I suspect that was happening from when I bought it second-hand. After the re-map, I bought an Autel AL519 to see if I could see anything. There were quite a lot of misfires being shown. Since reverting the re-map, there have been far fewer and they never latch up as a fault code. I have noticed a varying Spark Advance while the engine is idling. I'm not sure if this is normal or how far to push diagnosing this? I may be chasing ghosts. Images from engine on idle attached:-
