Timing Chain Tensioner issues?

Hello all, I am new to this forum.

Might buy a -10 RCZ this week and am getting a bit worried about the issues with the timing chain / tensioner.

I am planning to keep the car after warranty, so I am a bit curious about the cost of replacing the timing chain & tensioner, does anybody know about how much it costs (including the work)?

Cheers from Sweden!

Have you checked that the 10 reg car you are planning on buying has already had it replaced? It's possible it may have. In which case you may be ok in that department.

Also have you asked your dealer how much it would cost if this work was done out of warranty?

You can buy warranties after the car is 3 years old but not sure if this covers timing chain issues.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I don't think it has been replaced it is a "showroom" car and had only 90 km when I got to try it yesterday...
I will get a two year extra warranty included in the deal, I will check what it covers, the dealer told me it had everything the 3 year new car Warranty included, but you never know...

You were helpful! Thank you RCZ1!

I have had my GT200 BHP just under 2 years now and have only done 11000 miles, I noticed a few oil drips on my drive and took a closer look under the car for where the oil was coming from, the bottom plastic tray had collected a lot of oil over some time but I could not see where the oil was leaking from. The car was still under warranty so it was booked in to my local peugeot dealer for investigation. They called me and said that they have located the leak source and it was the timing belt tensioner and the car would be off the road for the next 4 days. Does anybody know if this is a big job and take 4 days to sort ?

The job itself isn't a "big job" as such and very straightforward. I imagine that it'll be off the road for that long as they have to wait for parts. However, replacing the chain tensioner is a quick job in itself.

They are probably waiting for all the parts to come in. They may replace the timing chain and tensioner at the same time. I had to have mine done but I was lucky that they had all the parts in stock so mine was done in a day.

Question from a non-native speaker: what's a -10 RCZ?
It is a part of our Licence plate number. 10 denotes that a car was registered between March - August 2010
