I have never been this emotionally attached to a car before but after much deliberation I have decided to part company with my RCZ, I have been a member of this friendly forum since the start and it's introduced me to some fantastic people who I have learnt a lot from, I wish you all the best and happy motoring to you all

I can't have much worse luck than I've had with my last two RCZ's, and when the turbo blows and the drive chain Snapps the mirrors corrode the rear spoiler fails to at lift high-speed the gearbox gets stuck in second gear and rattles underneath the dashboard witch is sagging along with sagging seats failing parking sensors and rear lights coupled together with corroding alloy wheels and rusting hubs have led me to lose confidence in her brand I had to take my black RCZ back 18 times in one year that's just unacceptable and now my 8 month old one has started playing up I've decided to call it a day, I just can't trust a 3rd no matter how much I love the look and the drive

Thanks Jassyo06, I went for a white one, I'm not convened that the BMW is a better looking car but it's a drop top and I've never had one before so it's something different, the £15,200 I got for my 8 mouth old RCZ was a bit or a kick in the plums

I've had only minor issues with my 2011 RCZ :
- passenger door handle replaced.
- wheels had to be rebalanced after new tyres fitted by dealer

If you are buying 2nd hand, just be picky about what you choose. There are plenty of RCZs out there and you will find that the forum mainly contains threads on the small number of cars with issues. There are plenty more with none and you will never hear about them.

If you look after the car, it will look after you.

i am looking at a new one. 2012. and sure. take care with the car.

My concern is design faults. This is one area where software and hardware can be a let down.

Like a new phone or microwave oven, how well has it been engineered?

And I'm also not picking on designers. It's a tough art I'm sure.

There are some complaints about using the 308 platform and the Mini engine. But if they are proven technology it's a great start.

When seats and mirrors start to let you down, this is the user interface failing. Good tech needs good controls.

Anyway. Just my thoughts on cars. some, (like alfa, last time i owned one) try to reinvent the wheel. to me, beemers evolve better. haven't tried the pugs before.

But the RCZ finally caught my attention enough to look away from beemers. Will I be convinced ? :)

Like all things, you get some with problems, others have no such worries. I agree, some seem to have had more than their fair share of problems, but I think they have been really, really unlucky. Personally, I've had a couple of minor problems - which were soon resolved. It has not dampened my love of the RCZ. It's a great drive. It's economical. It looks fantastic and attracts a lot of attention. Go on take the plunge- you might just like it :)

The other thing to mention here is that not everybody is the same. If a car was to be a women, would we all like the same one? Would there be some that find her habits annoying and others exciting? Some people are "moan a lots" and a forum like this gives them a platform to whine. Nothing in life is perfect and everything that was ever made has failed to work at some point in time. Peugeot UK are the only car manufacturer that I have ever come across that get personally involved when problems arise. They oversee the repair of any minor or major fault. Have you ever had any dealings with BMW UK?

If I was to be buying a car then the knowledge that the manufacturer is interested in how well my car is performing would be a major plus. The RCZ is (in the price range) the best looking car available. It is great fun to drive. It has lots of "toys" to entertain the driver and make getting from A - B more pleasurable. It is cheap to run visa a vie road tax, fuel, insurance etc. We have not heard of any being nicked, so I am assuming security is good too.

If you like what you see and enjoy what you drive then buy an RCZ with confidence  If not, then there are millions of boring looking BMW's out there

There are good and bad in every make and model, prior to buying my RCZ in March 2011 I owned a BMW M sport coupe for 8 years, never in the dealers once in all that time. Apart from the oil sump leaking, no problems with my RCZ at all, still looks as good as the day I picked it up from the dealers.

Why do you always have to be so negative ? Maybe you could put that money towards that oh so lovely Audi and then we could all live happily ever after :)

I'm not really willing to be drawn into this but, for what it's worth, here's my take. Almost every product will have a number of models that will be susceptible to faults. This is true of everything from computers and phones to cars and soap dispensers. Ultimately, the larger the production run the mirror these faulty models there are likely to be. For example, in two weeks my wife has had to have her iPhone 4S replaced 3 times. I have had one since the day they came out and have never had a problem. The thing about items such as cars, is that there are a greater number of components and parts that are coming together from a number of manufacturing points. Each individual part has the potential to be faulty or substandard. When these are combined, these can produce a lemon. Ultimately, for new car owners, these individual cars are untested and we are running them in and are unfortunate to be the ones that discover any flaws. I have had a number of faults with my car but these have all been rectified by Peugeot but have not been severe enough to require the car to be replaced.

However, one thing I cannot understand (and I'm not referring to Peugeot here) is why we, as car owners, accept a "whole" product being continually repaired or fixed. In these rare instances that a car suffers from a litany of continual problems surely we have every right to take the car back and demand a refund. You would do it with almost anything else. If my microwave was faulty and kept going wrong I would demand a replacement or refund. Why not with a car? Consumer protection states that an item must be covered by the manufacturer for the duration of what is an acceptable working life for that product. A TV might have an average of say 5-7 years. Should it be faulty, although people rarely challenge this, it should be replaced or refunded by then manufacturer even if it is outside of the warranty which may be, for arguments sake, 2-3 years. Hence the reason that extended warranties are a con. So, this begs the question, what is the average working expectancy of a car, 12 - 15 years, 200,000 miles? I don't know and don't profess to have the answer but ultimately my point is this, why don't we demand a replacement or refund if the car is substandard?! I would suggest that, should a car suddenly have a range of problems at any time, aside from expected wear and tear of a part, why don't we, as consumers stand up for ourselves and demand better. Should this happen I would expect ALL car manufacturers to go to much greater lengths to test all parts and all vehicles.

With a price tag to match  Remember it was only post WW2 that the likes of us could afford to buy a car. Adolf/VW are to thank for that. Let's just put it all into perspective and realise that a lot more RCZ's are in use, than members on this forum. A lot of members have "found" this forum because they were searching for an answer to a particular issue that they had. The problems are few and Peugeot are rectifying them as they crop up

I know that I feel a lot happier in the knowledge that Peugeot actually do give a damn
