So do these apps work like the sat nav in my car? Ie they can pinpoint your location? and then guide you on foot to your destination? Are they free to use or as jassy says best to be on contract? Ideally I'm looking at something cheap but not at the expense of practicality. I need it to work primarily as a sat nav and secondly as a good camera. I want to be able to photograph meters that are inaccessible and then be able to retrieve the meter readings, bearing in mind some of these meters are analog and I need to see EXACTLY were the dials are pointing.

Loads of questions but I know nought about mobile phones

Google maps can direct you exactly like sat nav and is gratis. However, you're going to need one with a reasonably decent processor and speed in order for this to be effective. Using gps they will be able to identify exactly where you are and direct you on foot. They will use data and thus be costly on unless you get a contract with free data or a generous data allowance. I'd probably advise against pay as you go. One further cautionary word, they do sap your battery quite quickly if used in the manner you suggest.

Very few phones will not allow you to zoom on a taken image but I'd be looking for one with a reasonably decent camera if I was you. However, most cameras will have a degree of digital zoom that you can use ahead of taking the picture.

One other thing, your phone is only as good as the signal you're getting and there are still significant black spots in the country. No or poor signal and you're gonna be goosed!!

I was thinking of zooming into the image after I have taken it. I wouldn't use the mapping to guide me as such, just to show me the route. Or on occasions just to identify a road

I would just get yourself to a carphone warehouse, explain your requirements and have a play around with the display models. Of course you don't need to buy from them but they are pretty competitive on price and tariffs and the like. I think the only provider that they don't match/use is Tesco.

Just starting to feel human again to old for this s**t. As the old saying wot happens in Dublin stays in Dublin. Which is just as well let's leave it at tequila and belly buttons :) after that I'm sworn to secrecy :-(

Well life can be lronic well yesterday l decided that l should register unemployed signed off at that the beginning of september...Why because they brow beat you and demean you every time you have to sign on needless to say my funds where getting low and on the very rare occasion they can get jobs for you to apply for,now yesterday l also got a job lol with the company l last worked for started today so no need to sign on now. l have not been trolling the forum of late as Much as usually do..lol apart from my mate Mad Max...lol reason being l hate posting via phone,no Pc now and back staying at the hotel of maw and paw that's life...eh hated living in Bosnian like environment shall we say.

Mac sounds like you had ball mate and your never too old to have good times

Well...good news on the job front Jassy!! :thumbup: Can't keep a good man down! On the more concerning side...you're back with your folks?! Nooooo! I won't ask more about this outside of a pm but I hope you and Avril are ok and that this is only a temporary thing!

Mac - sounds awesome!! What happens on tour stays on tour. Glad you had a blast buddy.

Take it easy Jassy boy! There's always some good somewhere. ....think of the copious amount of Internet based entertainment you can now watch (well when your parents are out) ;-)

It's all boxed up john av been having home cinema withdrawel symptoms was really looking forward to seeing World war Z but hey these are just details as they say,l dont think l would have the energy to watch movies just now ,as starting work after so long is quite tiring...lol but l will be saving up for a new panasonic 65" led tv

Fancy dress party tomorrow for a friend's belated Halloween housewarming. Now...Hamlet thought that he had a conundrum...pah. I have to choose between being Batman or Kick Ass. Choices choices!! :eusa-think:
