Saw my new car today well Someone else's to be precise this morning a female sitting at the roadside engine running A 12 plate 2.0tdi S-line spec ed in panther black it looks smaller than the coupe but jaw droppingly handsome my wee ticker was all pumping and i couldnt stop looking at it she saw me looking didnt care She must of thought Creep   The rag top seems to make the car so much lower in profile than the coupe a bit like viewing the rcz side on at night   ie the roof looks the same height as the arches :eusa-think: but thought about the colour maybe it will bring back the detailer that i used to be as getting a white car somewhat deminshes your responsibilty to the paint as white has been the easiest car to keep shiney and clean i have ever had :wtf: Yes it has, red being the worst so far  Will definetly be buying a DA polisher with the correct compounds to keep it SWIRL FREE,,,,HATE THEM THINGS

Jassy, you've certainly got your work cut out with the black paint. The DA will help a LOT. Good luck with it and enjoy it. I'm sure it will look stunning. I've only owned one black car and vowed never again although the OH keeps thrusting them upon me (black cars that is ;) ) he's had 3 now. They are hard work and look great when detailed. The trouble is they soon show every mark / dust / swirl but they are rewarding.

Just be very careful with a DA on black paint. Easy to cause holograms. Particularly on VAG paint. I made a right mess of my black Scirocco one. Tool me ages to fix it.

Yes, work the polish thoroughly and keep the car in the shade when working on it. Paint temperature gets very high on black cars when in full sun, which causes all sorts of issues.

Yep, black looks great if you keep on top of it but it can look dirty very quickly. A bit 'high maintainance'.

I suspect that they can see but it's simply more difficult to see them  Ok just being pedantic. I have to admit I share your frustration

That's a pet hate of mine too. Worse are the ones who've elected to put only side lights on "I want to be seen by others...just not quite as clearly as people with head lights on..." (Oh and those who leave rear fogs on when it's no longer foggy...they're as bright as brake lights and just camouflage them.)

Driving is becoming de-skilled. I think the likes of auto lights/wipers etc should be semi automatic. The car gives you 3 warnings and if you don't take action a speed limiter kicks in

I think driving with no lights is become more and more common in dusk/daybreak too (which REALLY gets on my tits), I think it's down to the instument clusters being backlit all the time these days. It's no longer a case of not actually being able to the dials which means you need to kick the lights on.

Well while we are at it not turning lights on is one of my pet hates too even when everyone else has there's on you always see some who don't ........they tend to not use their indicators either.

I began to wonder if all German cars had faulty indicators. The only one i have seen working is the right hand indicator and that must have intermittent faults as it doesn't always work.

Or just maybe they are too lazy to move their finger off the steering wheel to activate the switch.

Oh one more thing the same group of people when it's dark switch their fog lights on why can't they switch them on when its daytime and foggy.

Calms down takes a breath steps off soap box.

I think it's called "showing your age" ..... you must have been young once and thought it was really cool to drive about with sidelights and foglights blaring ... usually the aftermarket CIBIE jobs

German cars ... as we're all aware you get nothing for nothing with them, so perhaps indicators is an added option sometimes over looked .... particularly by Taxi Drivers I find

Also I tend to find the silly b%ggers driving without lights are usually those who drive "executive" or more aptly "tarmac" grey cars and you just can't see them!

....is there room on that soap box for a wee one??????

Can I join you on the soap box? This is my pet hate too. Indicators are a very expensive optional extra on German cars. Most owners do not spec them ;)

Donna, you are right - it is always drivers of dark coloured cars that don't have their lights on when everyone else does. They'd soon complain if you drove into them because you didn't see them ....... !

We're gonna need a bigger box... My two most used expressions when driving are "Come on, lift a ****ing finger!" aimed at lazy, non-indicating drivers (of mostly German cars it has to be said) and "They're not optional, you know!" aimed at people who sail through traffic lights as they change from amber to red.

Oh and people who indicate after the event to tell you what they just did...

I'm a very calm and mild mannered person but I seem to have found myself posting more on this thread than any other in the forum :-?
