The original OO58 RON. I loved this car right up until the day that I parked it alongside of an RCZ, then it looked as dated as an Audi TT

Jactac.
So pleased that you have got your Solstice repaired  I hate the fact that my lovely Pearl2 has been damaged by that tyre fitter. clumsy oath that he is. Do you or anybody else who dares to venture into this thread know, if my standard 19" alloys are the same materials as your solstice wheels? Ie. are they are problem to get repaired?

NAW................The duff standard 19"s are a lot easier to repair. REALLY SURPRISED at You Sir Ron not getting CHAMPAGNE coloured alloys or even Diamond Encrusted Split rims   and nitrogen filled tyres Maybe something you should look into

Nitrogen filled tyres is an essential element to myself and was introduced to my tyres when they had travelled a mere 6miles. It has been an essential element for a least the past five vehicles.

Did they charge for a whole tyres worth of nitrogen or did they give you a discount for the 78% nitrogen that was already in there?

I suspect that £10 that I payed for the full set to be deflated and inflated with nitrogen was based upon them being filled from empty

Ron,
the Onyx Solstice and the all black Sortilege are the same material but the Onyx finish has been Diamond Cut to give the outer alloy pattern look.
Basicaly they both start of all black then the manufacture skims away the outer edge with a Diamond cutting lathe to give the outer alloy finish then applies a clear coat lacquer.

Your standard alloy is not a problem to get repaired as it does not have a Diamond cut pattern , it is a normal alloy wheel painted then lacqured.

My spare Onyx Solstice wheel is pretty bad , i asked the repairer to have a look to repair it but he said that it would be far cheaper to just keep it as a spare if i wanted to stick with the Solstice design, or skim out the damage and paint the whole wheel black.
I will leave it as it is, afterall it is only a spare.

The problem with Onyx Solstice is not the material, (its a normal alloy wheel) its getting the outer alloy pattern to blend back in after a repair, thats the hard bit and the black painted bit to blend together without a sharp edge showing.

As soon as you lathe back a few mm then the whole outer patter will look bigger than the original pattern

That shiney bit on the outside has been skimmed off with a Diamond cut lathe, but the wheel would of started of as all black.
