Testing the water !

After some long chats with Mrs H, and some tough decisions we are now thinking of putting the "baby" up for private sale over the next week or so.

As some of you may be aware by my posts we have not thoroughly jelled with the RCZ, i wont go into all the boring stuff again but it's not really met our expectations.

Love it's looks, style, toys and instant attraction but just not really bonding with it .That sort of sums it up.

Anyway i'm really not sure what this model and spec would be worth if i were to put it up for a private sale, you dont seem to see them advertised privately, at least not in my area ?

It has done less than 1000 miles and has a couple of optional extras, but where do we start with an asking price ?

I think if we were to take a kick in the danglys on the asking price then i would just get the idea out of my head and wait a while before listing it.

I dont think part ex would be a good idea just yet even though the car is "as new", i know we would be bending over on a part ex deal.

Maybe just putting a for sale sign in the window and testing the water is the way to go, but i need a ball park figure in my head to play with.

I have a feeling it's not going to be good news though. :eusa-think:

Any ideas on a sensible asking price would be appreciated.

The cars spec is listed below.

Cheers

Hi Jactac

Try these figures, dont know if good or bad,

Part ex..£17.345

Private..£20.010

Those figures are minus all extras like metallic and other options, perhaps try an extra £500 on top of the the prices quoted,

Figures based on 156 GT on a 2010 (60) plate.

Good luck

I concur with dolanog . I still think that you need to have used the car. I have done more miles than you in my first week. It's like a beautiful woman if all that you do together in bed is sleep then you are not getting the best out of her. Looking at your car rather than driving it, then you'll never "bond"

sorry to hear things are not working out as you wanted them to jactac and hope things work out for you going forward !! A thought i had to myself was ... is it possible to have spent to much time on the forum before you took delivery !!! ie it never felt like a new car when you had it /all the questions /answers /problems were never yours to find out first hand so to speak . i just wonder whilst it is a good thing to join and talk and share info , imo i feel the ownership experience may have been taken away from you a little . :eusa-think: could i ask what cars have you shortlisted as a replacement or buy the astra back off your son :wtf:  whatever the outcome all the best for the future

regards mel

WhatCar? Magazine proposes the following:

Private Sale: £20,295

Part Ex: £17,630

Trade In: £17,025

Takes into account the mileage (or lack of in your case), although none of the extras that you've got fitted.

Stick it in some Local Papers and see what the reaction is.
Put it in the For Sale Section on this Board (if there's one, haven't looked)
Alternatively, PM me the details and I'll stick it on the Electronic Notice Board at work (accessed by over 5k local staff ;) )

Be a shame to see it go without some serious mileage on it, although if you haven't gelled by now, don't think it's going to happen. Might as well get something that you'll be happier with and more enthused to drive

PS Don't take it to any local Garages that might be open in the days, you know how BAD their Part Ex Prices are  :eusa-whistle: ;)

ALL really good valid points.

I know deep down i've not driven the car enough, exactly as Marcus says, maybe i need to "get in it and do some proper driving".
Another good point is from Mel, i'am the sort of person to speak as i find, even the slightest thing that should be said and i'll say it, so maybe i'm looking and commenting on other peoples problems before they actually occur on my own car, at the end of the day some of the issues raised on here may never find their way onto my car.

I do feel though that i'm just waiting for something to go wrong, this is why i question every knock, rattle or bump, it is like this forum is excellent at giving too much info, so your always on the look out rather than just enjoying the ride, if that makes any sense. :?

One option is to get something a bit smaller for Mrs H, like the DS3 and i will then use the RCZ on a more regular basis.

As for the prices that have been quoted they are roughly what i had in mind.
But i just know that a part ex deal is going to hurt, even if i do bend over and sing Moon River.

I'm off from work now for a few weeks so maybe i will take up Marcus's advice and get behind the wheel and do a bit of real driving, or as Ron says get to know what a good woman feels like.

Mel,
I do like the new Golf, but to be perfectly honest we havent looked at anything in particular .

As for the Astra well my son has that now, and it is a couple of years older than the RCZ so i wouldnt want to go backwards in age, anyway he would just laugh at me.

I think you will find the ds3 shares a large amount of components with the peugeot range

I just love this advice. It is so true. The car is amazing, you just need to use it and stop just looking at it

:greetings-wavingblue: I have had mine for 10 months and 15000 miles. I love it and have had no problems at all. I know something will happen as it has with evey new car I have ever had, about 8 so far, each one for 3 years. I do not think you should worry about it, that's what the warranty is for after all. I know that the dealers are not perfect but even perceived quality brands like VW have not filled my oil up after a service! Just drive, enjoy the handling, looks and admiration! :greetings-wavingblue:
