DIY and buy one of these from Ebay 330791313469 ;)

So it says, someone has bought one of these in the last hour.

C'mon, own up, which one of you did it ;)

I've always been asked if the car has a Full Service History when selling.
Same when I sold the RCZ.

Doesn't bring you anymore money - makes it easier for the Dealer to sell / pass on to Auctions / etc.
All it really does is reduce the opportunity for the Dealer to offer you less for the car.

Always makes me smile when people will pay Top Dollar for the car / accessories (pretend quads - really !?) and then moan about the most important part of car ownership - Servicing :eusa-think:

Please don't misunderstand me, I religiously get my cars serviced (reduces the chance of parts wearing and things going wrong plus maintains toe warranty etc). However, I'm merely pointing out that there are cheaper ways if you're open to them, including getting the car serviced at a main dealer. Furthermore, I'm only able to talk through personal experience of trading in my cars and, as I say, I've never once been asked about service history.

Also, what's with the feline kit quad hating all of a sudden everyone.

My second service is also due next month and I was just quoted £335 (or £310 since I have a K&N Air Filter that doesn't need replacing) from my local Pug dealer. Jesus H. Christ! I would change the oil and filter myself if the warranty didn't depend on it being done professionally. Must be somewhere reputable yet cheaper than that though... :eusa-think:

My understanding is you can have it done anywhere so long as they use genuine Pug parts & stamp the book. Might be worth confirming that 1st then getting a few quotes elsewhere. I also believe Citroen garages charge a bit less than Pug dealers & will use genuine parts. Worth a look at anyway :eusa-think:

I'll look at Citroen and see what they come back with. I'm not taking it to some back-street place though because they'll only f**k up the sills by not using a 4 point lift. *sigh*

I'm in the process of getting quotes for my 2nd service.

I've had the £350+ quote from Peugeot dealership.
Citroen quoted £115.
Been back to my Peugeot dealership again and asked what would be done.
They came back with fuel filter, pollen filter, air filter, oil and oil filter and brake fluid change.

I then quoted back to them what is in the service schedule book.
Pollen filter every 2 years or 20k miles (you changed this last year at 10888 miles).
Fuel filter every 4 years or 20/25k miles (you changed this last year at 10888 miles).
Air filter every 4 years or 40k miles.
Brake fluid, can this be tested to see if any water content first (to see if it needs to be changed).

They then came back with £89 for oil and oil filter change and to check brake fluid first.

Definitely worth knowing what is required for your service.

There is also a £25 voucher (might be £20) on myPeugeot website.

You could also go for mystery shopper and then you'll get a £85 cheque back.

Thanks, Tia. Food for thought...

EDIT: Any idea where the voucher is located on the MyPeugeot website? Think they may have taken it off...

And mine will be kept within warranty.

Spoke to the warranty guy at peugeot uk hq and he said that basically the things listed are recommended but if you don't require them it is not going to void the warranty.
Details below :-

Jamie Parry
Peugeot warranty
Head office.

Has stated that if items do not require changing, the warranty will not be effected.

After further investigation the plot thickens regarding these main dealer servicing prices. Actually I'm starting to think they just pick a number and double it when you call them because it's totally different again online.

So what do we think about these options for a 24 month service? Bear in mind the air filter is not being changed so it will only be oil and oil filter + check other levels and other visual checks, etc.

Option 1:

Manufacturer Service
A service that is tailored to your vehicles needs as determined by the manufacturer when they designed and built your car. Only fully qualified technicians with specific training from your vehicles manufacturer will carry out the service. We will only use the highest quality of manufacturer genuine parts. After we've completed the service you will receive an official manufacturer stamp in your service book giving you and any future owners of your vehicle complete assurance that the vehicle has been maintained to the highest possible standard. You may notice that the price of a manufacturers service varies between intervals. This is due to the complexity of the service due depending on your vehicles age or mileage.
£276

Option 2:

Value Service
The Evans Halshaw Value Service is our most basic service and is recommended for vehicles five years and older: Includes the replacement of the engine oil and oil filter. We will conduct a full Vehicle Health Check to advise you of any important safety items which need attention. You will receive an Evans Halshaw Value stamp in your service book.
£99

A rather large difference in price to say both of the above services take place at the same main dealers and probably by the same people.

Thoughts?

Obviously, the car requires whatever the manufacturer recommends, but only if it actually needs it doing. As Chris has pointed out to his dealer, most of the things they wanted to do were done last time, and don't require doing again.
Let's face it, it's not like they break-even on these things. Everything they tell you they are doing involves a large profit margin, so they are quite happy to change everything every time, and they will happily tell you it's the best thing for your car.

We aren't trying to avoid having the car serviced, just trying to avoid being ripped off. If all your car needs is oil & filter, and a health check on the rest, I would go for the value service, ensuring they still stamp the book, and double checking with them they aren't going to come back with, "well I'm ever so sorry sir but your warranty is invalid because you didn't have the correct service done" the first time you actually need the warranty.

I think looking at the options with the Pug dealer & Citroen's prices, it's clear you won't be paying the wrong side of £300 after all.

The quality of the service I don't think is going to change as it would probably be done by the same person to their standard whether they are doing a manufacturer service or a value service.

Find out what you car actually wants to be done at this service and quiz the service team as to what they are doing for that service.
If they turn round and say it has to be done to stay within warranty the ask the to call Jamie at peugeot uk hq warranty dept.

Looks like my service cost has gone from £350+ to £89 because I was armed with info and they couldn't fob me off.

Hey quick question re servicing, should you get it serviced yearly or 12500 as per warranty? I only do around 7000 miles per year. :eusa-think:

I think it's whichever comes first. Although after another year mine will be out of warranty so it sure won't be going for a £180 oil change from the main stealers!

Also remember that you can take your own approved parts and fluids and ask them to fit them. This always reduces the cost significantly!

That's not a bad idea! The oil is easy enough to obtain but I'm getting a bit confused with the oil filter - does anyone know the OEM code for the genuine oil filter for a 2013 156 THP is please?
