Sat Nav Radio + USB w/ Folders

So, i finally sold my GT......i am now a proud owner of a type r!! Holy shit its fast :D

Anyway, to the point. So ive been driving my GT for 2 years and using a 32GB FAT32 formatted USB stick with the standard radio (not sat nav, the bog standard one).

Upon getting in my new Type R with the integrated Sat Nav (No JBL Upgrade) i plugged in the stick to find it saying "No audio files found". I thought this was stranger so i plugged it into my pc and moved a few files to the root and out of the folders. Now it picks up the ones in the root but cannot see any folders nor any files in them.

Is there something different about this system? How can i get my tracks into folders because having 32gb of music all in teh root is....well.....yeah I wont swear but you get the idea.

Can anyone help here?

Try moving the files to PC then format your stick and copy back files and see if it works better.

Reformatted the stick again as FAT32 and copied it all back.

No files found.

It cannot see any directory structure on the stick whatsoever. I also tried another stick (64GB USB3) and again it could see a single file in the root but no directories or any files within them.

In addition, when streaming from my phone, i get no file information, how far into the track i am or any IDV3 tag info. Nor can i get any kind of "file view" to choose track i can only skip forwards & back.

This all seems very strange tho...is this stereo really that shit?

32GB USB 2 Stick - File work in root, cant view any dir's or contents
64GB USB 3 Stick - File work in root, cant view any dir's or contents
HTC One M9 via Bluetooth - Can play files but cannot view any file information, track playing, directory structures or any further controls beyond skip next & skip last. I can however fully control the audio from my phone....totally safe!

In my old GT the 32gb worked perfectly fine, the 64 did not because it was USB 3 so did not work at all. The phone i was able to view everything on and skip to whatever track i wanted instead of 1 at a time.

I have tried smaller sizes (but i dont own them) had the same problem.

Plus if it were a size issue then it wouldnt work at all, not let me play & view files fine in the root just not in any directories.

OK I stand corrected. I put a few files on my 64gb with a couple folders and it worked!

Now on confused, is there a limit on number of tracks/folders or something?

No it could be that the the system can only recognise up to a certain size ie 16gb might be the largest for that system.
The system may also only recognise up to a certain size even if the stick is larger ie upto 16gb on a 64 gb stick.

I also think in the owners manual it states that there is a limit on folders and files and types.

Well I will say again that the stick worked fine in the old rcz gt with the rd5 stereo. Is the rt6 really that much different?

EDIT: I do however now agree with you, as i put only a few files & folders on both sticks and tried them to find both now work. So whoever the hell at Peugeot took the perfectly fine rd5 interface and fubar'ed it into the rt6 can spend some time in hell :x

Anyone know much about removing this PoS and upgrading it to a decent satnav/headunit combo. The more I use it the less i like it, the sat nav sucks too with useless postcode entry :(

Hmm I just found a post that said something about dots in file names screwing with the rt6 operating system. This has made me think as ALL of my folders are named 01. blahh, 02. blahh blahh, 03. etc to keep them in alpha order. Now the post DID say files not folder but i am now thinking this might be the cause.

I will post results tomorrow

Ok it has something to do with the number of files or folders or the files themselves.

If i copy SOME of the files & folders it works, but when i copy all, it no longer works.

I have some trial & error ahead of me :(

The only thing i REALLY cant figure out is no matter what i do when i stream, mp3 from my phone to the stereo it will not show the track name, the place in the song, the track lists, folder structures, basically anything at all except for [Phone Name] and the playing icon.

I cannot work this one out for the life of me :*(

There is a limit of 1999 or 2000 (can't remember which) entries for files + folders on the USB stick as I had the same issue.

Cheers

I found the RT6 works a lot better with an ipod rather than a usb stick. You might want to consider buying an old ipod off ebay. I bought one with a damaged screen for not much money.

Fine, i bought a 32gb 3rd Gen iPod.....stupid stereo! I really hope it works, so far the RT6 has been an entire let down.
Also, I have 1945 songs and 70 folders.....15 too many xD

Anyone thinking of buying an RT6, my advice....dont. The Satnav is rubbish, doesn't even have proper post code entry (i mean really, who spends hundreds of pounds on a Satnav without postcode entry?) and yes i am aware they patched it in through the "town" field, but its shit. Most post codes aren't even recognised.

Further insults include,
  • An appalling (and WORSE!) operating system than its predecessor
  • A crap streaming function that does not display ID3 tags or even filenames. Nor director structures and gives almost no music controls
  • A useless fast forward/rewind function. Not only can you not hear the song while seeking but it seeks so slowly it takes just about 1/2 long to fast forward as it does to listen. Really? What the actual f*ck?
  • Constantly looses bass/treble settings, no idea why (no battery power loss)
  • A clunky and hard to use interface with a jog wheel that is almost impossible to accurately use
  • No RCA's.....i know, just putting it out there!

I could probably continue this for a very long time but ill stop here.

RT6 worse PoS ever!

As for the Type R, I am loving it! Nero Black, 270bhp. Currently has 2x 12" Alpine SWR-12D, a set of JL Audio C3 component speakers and a set of JL Audio C2 6x9's.

I am waiting for the guy (and my next pay check) to have a new boot build done with a false floor to get to my spare wheel without having to remove the subs.

And yes, i bought a spare wheel....i mean again, seriously.....a gunk machine? Are you mad!!

Oh and if you are thinking of buying a wheel, it wont fit just FYI. The area for it is not deep enough, hence the boot build -.-

I will try to upload some pics at some point.

So, just to clarify things, you don't like it then?
