Picked up the car but think ive done something to the sat nav.

had a separate nav plugged into the 12v, phone charging off USB and was also navigating from London to aberdeen on the pug nav when I realised the previous owner left some good music on the HDD.

After about 30 seconds the nav froze and a message came up as if it was recalculating the root. It was taking forever so I pulled over to have somr lunch and when I turned the ignition on again nothong... screen is black. No beep from parking sensors amd can't even get the radio on. Also the USB has stopped working...

Is there a way to reboot the system?

What have I done to it

Exact same symptoms that I experienced when a CD became jammed in the player, cure was to disconnect battery. The cure was simple as no tools required and no information was lost. Worth a try, I'd say.

No avail... is there a specific fuse for the sound system?

Tried Replacing the F14 fuse last night which is for the NAV, Amp, Parking sensors, USB and BLuetooth but the thing still doesnt come on. It lights up. But displays nothing.

Thought it may be that as everything listed has stopped working.

Looks like its a trip to Peugeot

At least the dealership seems to be on the ball.. after talking to the garage I purchased the car from I was passed to the local garage after the master tech did some troubleshooting over the phone. only two options remain.

1: The master safety fuse in the head unit is blown. if so this will be replaced and the system updated with the latest software

2:Brand New unit will be installed.

All free of charge of course.

The benefit of buying a used car from the the dealerships and not the car supermarkets.

A frustrating situation but not a bad final outcome then?

Absolutely.. Its the used car gamble.. the car was some £12,000 cheaper than my previous new RCZ so I think I can handle a few niggles that get sorted out over the next couple of months!

Not at all.. not too fussed to be honest with you as long as it gets sorted.. its let me enjoy the blow off valve when lifting off that tad more

This is really just a post to keep a log of whats happening.

Issues:
Drove car for about 30-45 minutes using satnav / Radio / Music etc
Got "Recalculating" Message and it froze, radio started up again
Parked up at service station had a McDonalds - was actually warm so that was a boost.
Back in car and the entertainment system stopped working.
Completely.

No SatNav
No USB
No CD
No Radio
No "Media" connection
No Bluetooth
No Parking Sensors
No Clock
Screen Shows Black.

Looking online everything listed seems to be controlled by the NG4 unit.

Called Nortway Way Peugeot in Letchworth who's master mechanic guided me through a few possible fixes to no avail and suggested I take it into the dealership

Advised him he was 600 miles away and agreed that putting it to the local dealer would be the best option

Took the RCZ into Gillanders of Peterhead yesterday where a mechanic plugged it in, looked over it and came to the conclusion that the unit had suffered an internal electrical failure and would need replaced. The software was the most uptodate and all the fuses were perfect.

I took a coffee while the receptionist called Peugeot Warranty - Coffee was nice, would have preferred a latte though "coz am posh like 'at"..

Receptionist returned to tell me that it would need replaced after talking with the mechanic and would cost £1,800

Peugeot Warranty however felt that it was not their duty to replace it and suggested I call Norton Way to replace it.

I called Norton Way Peugeot to inform them of the situation again but the sales guys had left the office early so I left a message with some young, slightly scared sounding chap. I used my disappointed / disgruntled Scottish voice so that may explain the worried tone of the lad.

I then remembered previous dealings with car dealers so decided to actually phone Peugeot Warranty myself.

They were apologetic and said he cannot see why the claim had been pushed back as it WAS working when I bought the car and THEN suddenly failed so didn't look like a pre-existing fault in the unit.

Obviously the guy that could authorise it had went home so I am expecting a call around 10am to update me.

Personally and what I have experienced from other electrical units in the past I would fall on the side that its upto Peugeot Warranty to cover it as it was a sudden failure rather than a pre-exisiting fault.

Everything was working well prior to it throwing a hairy.

If Peugeot Warranty and Norton Way want to play a game of "Who's got the bigger boaby" then thats fine by me.. But do that after I get what I paid for and keep me out of it.. It's already been a tad embarassing giving a lift to a client and having to explain why there is an AA Road map and a Garmin in the car if there is built in NAV.

So does anyone want to place bets on what the outcome will be?

1: Norton Way are liable and have to replace it.
2: Peugeot Warranty cover it.
3: Peugeot are so apologetic I get a free RCZ-R
4: I end up with a dud car and have to return it under the sales of good act

In my eyes, it's quite clearly a warranty issue and Peugeot should be paying Gilanders to replace it.

Thats my thoughts too

the whole "well it is £1800 worth of kit" was another thing too... maybe to us at retail it is  But its not exactly a top spec unit so there is no way on early it will cost Peugeot more than a few hundred quid.

Well that was unusually quickly resolved.

Covered by Peugeot warranty.

Booked in for March the 6th to get a new system fitted.

Jobs a good un..

Goes to show though... even if the garage says no... never hurts to take it upon yourself to make the call

The garage was clearly wrong in saying no. It was never anything but a warranty job.
