Resonance/rattle right back side

Hello all,

Just registered to this forum as it seems the biggest RCZ community around. I have an RCZ 1.6 156pk since March 2011. After a couple of months I started to hear a weird noise coming from the right side of the car (passenger side in my part of Europe :D ) only when I go 120 km/h or faster.

I already read the vent rattle topic here, but that doesn't seem to be it. I also read something about resonating JBLs (I have JBL) but the problem in my car is, the rattle also occurs when the audio is off.

It seems to be coming from the back side, although hard to locate, as it happens only at 120 km/h and faster. And I haven't taken anybody with me that would crawl in the back side and check yet.

I also read about someone putting down the back seat and back up again and a noise going away. I'll try that, but I doubt it's that as the sound seems to be coming more from the side.

The sound is something more of a resonance than a real rattle. It sounds slightly familiar to wind noise, but it isn't. And it is also not triggered by bumps or something. Just a continuous resonance from 120 km/h and onwards.

Thanks for any feedback!

This may be a silly one, but i found that if i left the cap up on the USB connection it would rattle in the inner console. Have you left it up?

I have a USB stick plugged in there. I'll check this. But I do think the sound does not originate from there.
Thx though for replying this quickly!!

No bother. You caught me on my lunch break :)

Other places I've heard rattles were when I placed the tow bars etc in the side pods in the boot they rattled around until I took them out

I guess you've checked things like your exhaust brackets/heatsheilds and stuff?

What about the rear seatbelts... are the buckles tucked in like they should be??

Have you checked the back seat is securely properly? drop it open and give it a decent slam.

Check the exhaust hangers, my exhaust makes a noise going over speed bumps.

Thx all for the tips. Unfortunately I haven't located the cause yet. I drove around with someone sitting on the back seat and listening. It seems to come from somewhere inside. So behind the rear back speaker or somewhere around there. I guess, not an easy location to have my dealer look. I don't feel like having the whole back inside of the car removed to check.
I doubt it comes from exhaust or suspension as it more sounds like some plastic that starts moving from 120 km/h and above.

This Friday the car will have its 1 year service, so I'll hope they know/find what it is.

Took the RCZ to the garage last Friday and it seems to be solved. Not 100% sure yet. They fixed the heatshields or bottom plates or how the things are called on the bottom of the car more firmly. Apperently one of them started to resonate in the wind at certain speed.

Hope that's sorted then
