Re: RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

Hi all' ..and congrats to the 1 on getting her dream R- spec Z' as getting a fave car is always dream realised and this is the third time her lustful car dreams have come true and I'm sure it will be treated with the same level of detail that her previous Z's have been treated with her mystical beauty enhancing potions. ..Tell me your secrets ,,just the detailing ones i meant!

HOWEVER, it saddens me to say the the Z' hasn't quite had the same thrill for me during my 1.5 years of ownership due to mine having been beset with a wrath of the common faults that we all know about BUT are of course denied by Peugeot :eusa-shhh: ,,yeah I said it !

Even though my repairs have been taken care of via my third party warranty company so the expense has been minimal to myself, the time and aggravation has been very real :( especially when I reminise many MANY years trouble free Celica ownership :D . I always know when I'm not as happy with a car as I should be as I find myself researching my next car and i've been doing that for some time because happy car ownership is about trust and alas I haven't found that with my Z' no matter how much I have tried whilst also enjoying my perch on the Forum back benches.

I know and appreciate that all cars have their faults BUT I feel the THP engine due to its general reliability in respect of its common well documented Forum listed faults whether they occur in a our favoured Z' or in a DS3 or Mini. Im not wishing to offend in anyway as I still think that the Z' looks dare I say it sensual and unique plus it has me taking that sneaky second glance as I walk away BUT regrettably what lies under the bonnet doesn't inspire me with trust & confidence! MAYBE when i've had the timing cover oil seal leak repaired I will feel differently ,,,until the next time as I've had the other faults I've researched on the Forum to see whats possibly left.
I believe that mrizzle amongst others has felt similar pains of trust & confidence of the ilk that keep me well acquainted with my Peugeot service dept and ultimately could take no more :brickwall:

.the big blue (..anyway back to my 'back bencher perch' to dream of my Z' no longer bleeding the black gold)

RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

Sorry to read of your experiences big blue and, as you alluded, similar experiences were ultimately what led to me parting ways with my own RCZ. It's a special car and I loved it but my faith in the abilities of the various service departments that I encountered was tested beyond breaking.

So...cmon then...what are the replacements that you have been investigating?

As for RCZ1's sly replacement, I'm chuffed that young K has managed to fulfil the quest for more power which I know that she was lusting after. The only "problem" will be what comes next if we are to believe what we have read and heard about the RCZ line being discontinued. Still...that's a quandary for some years down the line and I dearly hope that she enjoys the extra power (which it certainly sounds like she is enjoying) and the R ownership experience. Something tells me she/you will.

Re: RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

Thank you guys :)

Yes it was very difficult keeping it secret for such a long time. Who knew 4 weeks could go so slowly ;)

Unlike big blue, my RCZ ownership experience for the last 5 years has been nothing but pleasurable. Yes I had the timing chain issue on the Mk 1 and the temp sensor problem with Ruby but both those issues were dealt with swiftly by my local dealer, both in one day, which resulted in no time off the road. My local service department are excellent and I would have no qualms in recommending them to everyone.

Yes I did look around at other cars but something just kept luring me back to the RCZ R. I couldn't just walk away from it.

As Mrizzle says, this is my midlife crisis car! God I hope it lasts a long time :)

Ruby was sold in 2 days by the dealer I part ex'd with, so hopefully the new owner will join the forum or the Owners Group, sometime soon :)

Re: RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

Hi all :greetings-wavingblue:
RCZ1 it sure appears that your ownership experience has been good to you and as a result of which you now have the ultimate Z' and all its horses to happily SPEED you through and ease away any thoughts of a mid like crisis (so called) !

Alas for me its not just down to the faults being repaired (seamlessly in your case by a good service dept) BUT the fact that such particular faults happen in the first place that I can't accept and which has eroded my trust in the Z'. Mrizzle has felt my pain and acknowledges this as a regrettable shame. None of us like to travel in fear even when the car is running faultlessly which of course mine has in-between the Forum known issues. :eusa-think:

Mrizzle, as for what will be my next ride, having come from a Celica the GT86 has always captured my attention although I wish Toyota had gone it alone and put one of their own bulletproof engines for its heart as opposed to a Subaru flat 4 & Toyota amalgamation. The engine configuration means it is spread all over the engine bay akin to engines of old ,,have you seen one?? My attention has also been drawn to the Roc which is what I had a toss up between when I opted for my Z', and coming up third is a Megane Coupe Renault Sport but I am unsure as to the brand. These replacements are of course dependant on whether I manage to re-instate personal trust in my Z' which is a psychological hurdle regardless of faults  I take it life with the ST has settled the rizz's mind and led to greater ownership contentment which is was all petrol/ diesel heads ultimately seek !!

.the big blue (..& as stated before, I still take that second glance when I park up so the romance as yet is NOT dead) !

Big blue, I have indeed seen a number of GT86's and they can actually really shift. They're REALLY easily remapped and have absolutely zero turbo lag so you can really make these things into pocket rockets. One of the guys that I occasionally go out with runs with has one that's been quite extensively modified and he reports it to be great fun. This is his (and his FB page is on the watermark if you're interested)

Always like the Scirocco, I still do but I do think that they are overdue some kind of facelift. The R is the one that always took my interest.

I actually test drive the Megane Cup Edition. Superb driver's car but the interior is awful. I can't overstate how absolute nasty it is. It's garish and cheap feeling and, on the cup edition at least, it beeps (annoyingly) at you every time it thinks that you should change gear. A 20 minute test drive and it was already driving me wild. That said, it is a hell of a car and they certainly do catch my eye still when I see them. The engine likes to be worked hard and it, again, doesn't have the lag that some other cars in its class have.

Finally, I am absolutely loving the VXR. I have had issues with one particular local Vauxhall dealership (who kerbed my alloys after changing my tyres and which led to a lengthy drama with a refurb that EVENTUALLY led to them being replaced...I'm STILL waiting for my promised compensation over a year later) but I did find another Vauxhall dealership not too far away who I've been happier with and I am very much in love (and awe) of this car. It blows my mind every time I drive it properly and I think that it's one of the most eye catching cars on the roads. Even in Aberdeen (where no car is truly rare) I can spend weeks without seeing another. Just love this thing.

Good luck with your quest Big and keep us posted!!

Re: RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

I agree with the comment about the Scirocco. It looks outdated. It's in dire need of a revamp I think.

Not particularly keen on the GT86. The design looked dated when it was first released. It's retro in its looks - but not for me.

I considered a few different cars when trying to fuel my desire for more speed. Astra GTC VXR, Mini Coupe John Works, Golf R to name but a few but for me at least, the design of the RCZ is still eyecatchingly beautiful. Therefore, combined with the power AND the looks - there was only ever going to be one winner. Remember I had never had the same car in succession prior to the RCZ. I'm now on my third. That tells you something about my enjoyment and enthusiasm for the RCZ.

The RCZ fits my needs perfectly. Large boot space for when I need it. Rear seats for additional load space should it be required. Fuel economy which is great for a car like this. Looks. Reasonable road tax and servicing costs. Plus it's not massed produced so don't see others for weeks on end.

I couldn't be happier with my choice :)

Re: RCZ1, you naughty devil!!

Hi mrizzle :greetings-wavingblue:

Firstly i stand corrected when I referred to your ride as an ST when of course it is a cherished VXR ,,and one which you are extremely happy ,,and whilst at the same time you patiently wait for your wheel compensation/ reimbursement dosh. Don't you just hate the way dragging things out is now seen as normal business?? ! Nice to see the VXR foto's and am I right in thinking that is your castle in the background rizz ?? :wtf:

Nice pic of your friends GT86 ,,just ask him if he'd consider a straight swap and i'll even throw in the remainder of my warranty which touch wood he won't need as Ive had all the faults and they've been dealt with tell him  Yes I am drawn to the GT86 which I consider to be a Celica re-incarnate and not the AE86 that Toyota want us to believe. Hopefully the used price of them will fall as the days, weeks, months & years pass and hence they will drop into my budget. That is of course on the basis your mate doesn't want to take up the swap I proposed !

I agree with what you say about the Megane Coupe's interior and Renault really do need to use a different type of plastic as not everything retro is nice, the same cheap plastic was used in my mates old Clio and even then it was amongst the worst and cheapest feel and quality I had seen in a car since a Nissan Cherry.

bigmac3161 I'm hearing what you say about the Roc which I guess in some ways is akin to the now old 308 platform on which the Z's are built. BUT just like what mrizzle said the R Line's are still nice and having driven a Roc the handling is precise.

.the big blue ( :eusa-shhh: ...best I stop praising other cars otherwise my Z' will not be happy with me) :D
