I do think it's sad that so many people are buying cars as investments and they'll never be used as intended.
I don't think that a lot of the investors are car people. It's purely financial.

They always have been, the guy that bought my last car(collector) had a couple of pugs in his collection, can’t see many Rs with the mileage going anywhere else.

I find it very interesting that in australia we Rarely see them for sale But in the uk there is anywhere between 10+ for sale..... when the number sold isnt that different
From what I've read Australia only got 35 Rs and the UK 305.
The last couple of years there has always been 10+ cars for sale. Before that there was only a few available at a time.
Just for context on prices; a chap on a Lotus Forum I am on has posted about his 5 month old Emira, several thousand miles, mint...cannot drive the manual box due to injury needs an auto.......been given a £63k PX value against a new £148K car at a Lotus dealership! Robbers!

hi mate, if yours is the red one in Chorley, You have done all the work on it for someone else’s benefit, you will probably regret selling it but good luck with it, had mine 6 months and am enjoying it, anyone thinking of taking the plunge go for it, this one would be at the top of my list, good luck
Any interest for your R, be interested to know what the demand is like?
I am looking for an MR2 at the moment and obviously being a roadster there are many starting to come on the market..some hanging about, dealers asking stupid money as usual, private more realistic prices; market seems subdued....buyers market?

No nothing serious as yet, hard to gauge what demand is like, but I think if I was selling cheap, car would be gone.
Car is locked up now for the winter, I didn’t expect to sell quickly given the market and factored in a long period (around 6 to 12 months given on how long others have taken) to sell for decent money.
Mine is without doubt the best for sale at the moment.
We may decide to trade in next summer, not sure at the moment, not a good time to sell me thinks, plus deep down I don’t want to sell.
If your looking at the MR2 then maybe you would be better on a trade in if you need a quick sale…

Can I add, there Is a lot of criticism with regard to the reliability of the R, the fact is it’s a high performance car, therefore it requires over and above maintenance to keep it running perfectly, no more than any other performance car in my view and through my own experience.
I think if you run one as a daily and it’s not garaged you have to be prepared for big bills to keep it going, just like any other performance car.
I have never run a fast car as a daily, what’s the point, especially with todays traffic.
I am willing to bet most Rs are weekend cars only, they are special despite what some so called experts say!

Yes I think the private used market is currently a tad depressed.
I am looking for an MR2 as a project/bit of fun given a lot of Owner's bail out of ownership at the onset of Winter, private sale as the Trade are living in cuckoo land with their pricing.
I am liking small low(er) powered low cost roadsters more and more for having fun at sensible speeds with low maintenance costs and the connection you don't get in many modern cars; but will be keeping the R for the forseeable, If I do bail it will be a Spring sale (I now steer clear of the Trade for buying or selling), the weather down here has been great the last week (went on a fish and chip run to the coast Monday evening; 21 degrees!) so have had a couple of drives out and I am still enjoying it; it still makes me wonder what sort of (mis-timed?) heap JayEmm actually drove?!
An R as a daily, no chance for me too, I don't even go out if the road is damp or rain is forecast!

Like that, I will be tinkering also through the winter in the garage, as cars for me has always been a serial hobby.
Know what you mean about having fun with something low powered and more connectivity, was only talking about that the other day, my friend has an A35 very fast, but says its dull to drive, point and press so to speak, says he misses his old mini from years ago to have fun.
Never drove mine in the rain also in my ownership. Jay Emm obviously doesn't like drivers cars like a lot of people out there, agree the car must have been broke.

mine is not a daily but i am enjoying it quite often, only problem is due ot change in circumstances, its been outside, (its killing me inside, and I dont know how much damage its doing, im happy to do a full treatment later if hte clear coat becomes affected)
im thinking of buying a cover for it, it will be a pain to uncover it each time I drive it but I want to preserve it
ive also seen/heard 2 x Rs for sale in the past week too
tempted to buy another one, finance aside

Feel your pain there, the sun can be worse than rain for long periods of exposure, trouble is with covers they can scratch paintwork no matter how careful you are taking them of and putting them on.
In Australia out of the 31 RCZR's imported, none has been for sale for like 2 years. Normal RCZ's ( fully loaded ) are A$ 14,000 ( L$8,000 ) 110,000 mil. to A$26,000 ( L$14,000 ) for a 35,000 mil.

3 have gone for sale in 3 months in aus.
I bought one of them
Which got me thinking 3 out of 32 in a few months is a very high proportion
The only problem with a cover is if the car gets wet during use it will stay wet under the cover and then the cover will also be wet and will take some drying out now the U.K weather is turning. Couple this with freezing temp's as Winter sets in, a cover could be more trouble than it's worth.
Interesting, my 2013 auto has only 20k on the clock. I wouldn't have thought that kind of money is realistic, is it?
