Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

If it were only this I'd probably get it done.

But I've got the annoying noise that no one can find from the serpentine belt area and the clutch has started mooing like a cow.

Cough cough, EML.
Check code cylinder 4.

Swap plugs and coils round. Still cylinder 4.
I think it's the hpfp.

The reason I'm looking for new wheels at the moment.

The Head technician at my local dealers said HPfp always throws up a fault code on number 4 cylinder. Not a massively expensive job, you can buy the pump for under £400 and it’s possible to diy fit, but my dealer said they could fit one in less than an hour.

Probably drive belt tensioner pulley £85 off eBay they wear and rattle. The wife’s Mini CooperS is doing the same.
Clutch is another headache altogether!

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

The clutch is fine, it makes the odd noise when hot no slipping or anything.
The pulley noise is annoying though!

I drive with the windows down most of the time so I can hear it.
No body else can though, including a Peugeot dealer mechanic.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

So, the clutch noise is a known issue on the Z and indeed several other cars. It seems it’s the dmf (dual mass flywheel). I had a similar noise, no slipping or anything, just an occasional noise. Got the whole thing, clutch plate, dmf, entire assembly replaced under extended warranty. Bill was @£1600 I’m afraid. Glad I didn’t have to pay it.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Sorry for the delay in adding more to the thread but when I posted last night I only had 1% battery left.

The fault codes are for cylinder 1 and undetermined cylinder, so they said keep an eye on it if it happens again they will swap coil packs as the have just replaced the spark plugs.
To see if the fault follows the coil pack.

I hate it when they are guestimating faults. Which Z is it Chris the weazel or the R?

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

How old is your R and what's the mileage? just for note as to longevity before probs arise. Yes I know they can happen at any time to any car regardless of mileage but with a 2500 - 3000 mile trip imminent, I'd like to have an idea.
Thanks and hope you get it back to full strength, and please update us to the fix.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Mines just done it on a journey to Southport.
So I'm sat at the side of the road with the battery disconnected to try and force it to reset itself.

That's a no.
So I'm waiting for Ashley from green flag to arrive.

First time I've broken down, how very thrilling.
Not.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Ashley plugged his generic code reader in and checked for codes.
One popped up, which after glancing over his shoulder was p1338. Obviously It didn't say what that was, but anyone who has had more than 1 Peugeot should know a few fault codes.

Cylinder 2 misfire.

Last time it was p1340, cylinder 4.

Now this is slightly promising as I swapped the coils round.

So it looks like the code from 4 is now on 2.

Hopefully a new coil pack will sort it.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Well, to continue to hijack this thread (sorry :) )
I've bought New coil pack, £22.
Fitted it and it seems ok.

Plus, I've just won £15 on a scratch card.

Mine started like this - intermittent misfires - and ended up with new hpfp (which you’ve already had) and a new cylinder head, due to worn variable valve lift gear wear, and - as a precaution - a new timing chain and guides.

Hope yours is just a coil. Some suggested inlet valve carbon build up could cause this, too (no code for that).

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Well my £22 coil pack seems to have fixed mine.
She's just happily been up to Scarborough for the day and not batted an eyelid.
If I decide I'm keeping it I'll do the other three.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

Mine has less than 20k and I got it with 6 miles in January 2016.

I think it is a pressure sensor saying not enough pressure from the pump (only for a fraction of a second) which is then putting it in to limp mode, now I could be wrong and it could be coil or old spark plugs.
But I bet when I next drive it and put foot down it does it again.

Do you have access to diagbox?

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

I have a laptop with PP2000 on but battery not much good, need to find a program that will run on win7 or win 10 without costing a fortune.

Re: RCZ-R limp home mode.

You can buy diagbox separately (or download it for free probably) but I think, although I'm not 100%, on newer operating systems you'll need to run it in a virtual machine.
I'm sure mine is vista, and it runs it fine.
