I like the last suggestion of "SUPERFUND". VERY droll!

So...you're telling me thay there is likely to be some delinquent cruising about in a V8 ute with the registration of "PEN15"?!

Just checked, can't have numbers on this style so PEN1S is out. But PENIS has gone!! Incidentally so has "SMEGHEAD" for all those Red Dwarf fans.

Hi all,

Well guys after starting a rather mundane thread, I would just like to thanks all those who posted along the way adding great value and some very interesting comments..

Finally I've had my (illegal) plates made up and assigned to the car although I understand it's only a matter of time until Mr Policeman wants a quiet word hehe..

Look forward to meeting my the fellow RCZ fraternity at meets throughout 2013.

Andy

Well they look great but (sadly) I suspect the will be viewed rather negatively by the boys and girls in blue. Still...enjoy them while you can!

Really?! So it's perfectly legal for garages to use it as a free advertising space but not for an owner of a plate that's registered solely to them to put their name on it. I can understand it being frowned upon if it was an offensive message but to be scolded for having your name seems too far to me and appears to be double standards!!

My last car had the garage I bought it from advertised on the plate but that garage went out of business 2 weeks after I bought it. As this was no longer technically a business I wonder if my plates then didn't pass muster in the eyes of the law...for the next 9 years...

Hi all,

Well as anticipated it was only a matter of time before Mr policeman decided he would have a quiet word..... two short weeks infact

Unfortunately he had zero time for pleasantries and issued me with an on the spot fine - grrrr !!!

I thought a ticking off may have been on the cards, but no, hey-ho.... mr jobsworth obviously had to prove his worth (im sounding bitter now i know) ;)

I'll give him his due, he did comment that they were the worst plates he'd seen in over two years  (wry smile)

That sucks citygent. I guess we knew that it was fairly inevitable. Sadly you got a real jobsworth. Anyway, I have thought about this and maybe you could consider a set of carbon or gel plates instead. You won't be able to make the Adams part stick out but at least these make your plates stick out a little and are fully road legal. Just a thought. I haven't used this company myself but have toyed with the idea as I think they're kinda cool. I may do it for my own plates later this year.

Absolute mrizzle.. he certainly was a total jobsworth... though as we have both commented, it was inevitable!

I did consider a set of carbon/gel plates when I had mine made up, although tbh the plates look nothing without the appropriate spacing, so perhaps I'll just have to drop the cherished plates and transfer it back to the originals :(

A lesson learnt though.. Quite a costly fortnight  I can think of better ways to have spent the £500

How much???!!! I didn't realise the fines were as high as that! I think I'll stick with my conventional (non-private) plate.

They did rather stand out as being illegal somewhat though. I suspect a more subtle change as some people adopt would perhaps go unchallenged. What is the amount of the fixed penalty? I assume the £500 quoted was the price you paid for the number plate originally?

Sorry, i appreciate that comment was slightly misleading

I was referring to £500 as the overall cost - purchasing of plates, manufactured and then the fine (£60)...
