RCZ Depreciation Issues

Does anyone have any accurate figures for part exchange prices?

Last month I was considering changing my RCZ (Dolphin Blue 156 GT, Oct 2010, 4000 miles, showroom condition) for the automatic version. I contacted my local main Peugeot dealer, who was less than enthusiastic, but said he would phone me back with a PX value. Surprise! he didn't phone. I contacted him the next day and he said he didn't want my car as he would be unable to sell it!

I contacted the dealer where I purchased the car and he offered a PX price of £17000 against the automatic version. I did not accept, as I thought this was much too low. This amount equates to a loss of £6470 on a purchase price of £23470 that is 27% in only 9 months.

I have checked the prices on the Wisebuy site and they quote a PX of £17500 or a "Trade" £16829.

Is it just me, or are these very poor prices, and why would a Peugeot main dealership be unable to sell a low mileage car in perfect condition with only 4000 miles on the clock?

I am very unimpressed with the Peugeot dealer network, and will never buy another Peugeot.

If any others have had similar experiences I'm sure we would all like to know.

Sadly cars take the biggest part of their depreciation curve in the 1st 12 months due to the government snatching 20% of the value in VAT which you cant get back. This makes changing a car quiet early like you are thinking about a painful experience.

Worst I saw was a guy who lost 10k on a 1 month old volvo. 26k new 16k trade value offered by the supplying volvo dealer.

Peugeot RCZ Coupe (10 on) 2010/60, all options except sat nav, 10,000 miles (can't do 4k on app) (Original: £23,880, Franchise Dealer: £20,723, Independant: £20,363, Private Good: £19,643, Private Poor: £16,335, Part Exchange: £18,208) using the Parker's iPhone App. Maybe if you purchase a brand new Asphalt they will be more willing to part-ex? But won't be auto :(. My normal experience with Peugeots is that they depreciate by up to 50% every year! Hopefully it won't be like that with my RCZ! But I am expecting to keep for for at least 2-3 years. Best bet is to try and sell privately on Autotrader or eBay motors. That's what I did with my 407 coupe and netted £1000 more than Peugeot offered on part-ex.

You have done 7% in 9 months not 27%. Which actually is a very string residual. The other 20% is the VAT and is a fact of life when buying a brand new car I am afraid. 14 new Porsche on the trot teaches you a little about first year losses......

I got £17,850 for mine trading in for a new Mini Countryman All4 Cooper Diesel (not everyones cup of tea, but at least I can use the back now and will be a lot more practical for when our first grand child arrives), which was the same OTR value as the 156 GT.

I thought that was pretty good considering I've changed to a different manufacturer (Althought the car is made at the same plant) I was sorry to see her go, but glad after it started an oil leak, the thought of the main dealer repairing it brought tears to my eyes.

You will never win with cars, but remember it's not the price of the trade in you need to consider but the price to swop - that's the bit you need to calculate.

Good luck with your efforts, at the moment other manufacturers are not so sure on the depreciation of the RCZ so deals are there to be had.

The depreciation on Peugeot RCZ's are amazingly good considering its french.

its depreciation is around the 50% mark after 3 years which the only cars i know of to be higher is the Volkswagen Scirrocco and the Mini.

If you are interested What Car has there own depreciation calculator that can even compare up to 3 cars at the same time and has pretty much every model of car on there.

Wait to September,we all should know by then what direction Peugeot are heading  if there is a re-vamp front end and engine spec, then that will affect any series one RCZ,
Please remember Peugeot is a global buisness  they don't give a s**t about any of us,my own view is simple;there will be changes, like it or not,im saving already

Just checked on your part-ex price, this month July 2011 you should be looking at least £17.925 part-ex,you want to go for an automatic :x then you should think ahead when you will attempt to sell that one,if insistant on an automatic,i would increase your part ex an extra £400,plenty of Peugeot dealers out there, shop around stick to £18.300,but do remember when you do sell your auto there will be a hell of a lot of RCZ'S,my own opinion and i will admit may be very wrong,i do not fancy offloading an auto RCZ in 2/3 years time :eusa-think:

Some depreciation figures for you lot..

As expected, Audi bears the 1st year depreciation very well.

Interesting to see how badly BMW fairs. And Its nice to see the RCZ keeping its value better than the hot hatch brigade

Bearing in mind though that to get the Audi to the same spec as the GT RCZ it will be a few more grand.. and the 4 year price will remain the same bringing the steepness of the curve to a more realistic level.

actually the RCZ holds its value just as well as the TT if not better considering the price difference between from the start.

Also I expect the TT values to drop soon when they unveil the new Audi TT that will cause that generation to plummet in value

Just as the previous era prices dropped.
It could be a coup de gra for audi though.. slash the current TT prices in line with the RCZ while the new-un is rolled out.

work well for us though as less RCZ's will be bought kepping values good

In reality, who cares? I have always held the view that id I have to worry about the depreciation I can't afford the car. First year depreciation on my 998's buys a new GT200 full spec every year!

You have to be philosophical about these things, it's a but of hardware and devalues the moment you drive it out the show room and just keeps on going down! Unless of course it's a Ferrari GTO!

Exactly I'll be glad in a few years if I get 5 figures back.. If not... Cest la vie!

To Be honest the RCZ is has the best residual for a Peugeot. It 2% lower than an Audi TT, but in reality you pay alot more for the Audi without the gadgets.

Think it's getting awfully close to the time that you have to make a decision whether to hang on to the RCZ or say goodbye before you're offered a pittance for it. I sold mine (as you know) in April and got £14.5 for mine. I'd have been gutted to have let it go for much less. However, what was more important to me was the cost to change.

I dearly hope that you can get something sorted that you're happy with Jactac as I know that you've been looking around for some time now. I'm astonished at the cost of that Cupra!

^. That's utter rubbish. If you got yours new or nearly new you have lost the biggest bulk of the money already. If it's a good car keep it.
