RCZ and towing a caravan

We love the Peugeot RCZ 2.0L diesel GT model, seriously considering buying one, about 2012 model. We can see there is a towbar available, we want to tow our caravan with it, max loaed weight of which is 1433kgs. We would appreciate any comments as having searched the web, we can't find anything out about towing a caravan, although kerbside weight and engine appear to be fine. Many Thanks in advance, Gill and Gregg

Hi I used to tow a caravan with an Escort XR3i back in the day and had no problem a lot lighter and a lot less power than the RCZ. It's recommended not to go above 80% of the cars curb weight though legally you can pull a caravan as long as it doesn't weigh more than the car.

Good luck and if you "pull it off" ;) post us some photos

Hmm, interesting idea, not sure what I think of that, but I suppose if you have to tow a Caravan, you might as well do it in style :wtf:

I thought it was against the law for someone to own an RCZ AND a caravan... ;)

I believe it's illegal to mention "RCZ" and "Caravan" in the same sentence. :eusa-think:

Except of course when you are saying for example, I overtook a "Caravan" in my "RCZ" today, that kind of thing :eusa-whistle:

In that case I overtook several caravans in my RCZ on Saturday with the spoiler fully up :) Speedometer reads 98mph before the bleeding thing comes up though.

Cheers

Do not, in all godly existence even consider a caravan.

You do know for the combined cost you can actually stay in a hotel?

I Prey this is a joke post, or God help us please.

Euh, no, that's not possible. or allowed. The max towing weight for the RCZ is 500kg.

It's not a joke, seriously the car should tow a caravan, kerb weight and engine are fine, just wanted to know if anyone else out there is doing this.

However, the specs say the highest allowed weight that it may tow is 500 kg, which I'm pretty sure makes it illegal to tow a caravan that is heavier than that.
There is more to it than weight and engine power, it's also about construction of the frame etc. e.g. a Peugeot 308 SW is allowed to tow 1300 kg, so it just seems the RCZ was not built to tow (horses for courses).

Well, I think we can safely say you are quite possibly the first person in the world to ever look at the stunning lines of the perfectly formed RCZ and say "Yes, all it needs now is a caravan...!".

^ This. The structural strength of the tow bar mounting points must be considered even before kerb weight and engine power, so best not to exceed the manufacturers design specs.

If they designed the tow bar mounting points like they did the jacking points............ :eusa-think:

(Gill, just in case you are not aware, the jacking points are made of cheese, not the solid mature cheddar type of cheese, more a crumbly Cheshire type, designed to break as soon as something solid contacts them, like, a jack)

I don't feel quite so stupid now, and I only asked about door edge protectors.
