As for a track car your really having a laugh with a rcz straight from the factory as its basically a 308 with a wider track

That is, at least when you look at the suspension parts, dome strut and several other strut bars of the THP200, about 100% wrong. Wrong as in "different like night and day".

There's even a huge difference between the THP156 and the THP200 concerning this.

Yeah, clearly Jassy doesn't know what he's talking about.
Common platforms are commonplace in the whole automotive industry and this is the case for all brands.
Indeed the drive train and suspension of the RCZ has been completely re-engineered compared to the 308.
I've driven a 308 1.6 petrol and in no way it was anything like my RCZ.
Also, because of the different dimensions nearly all of the interior panels are specific for the RCZ and when specced right the RCZ looks the works. German BMW driving work contacts have complimented my RCZ interior (I have NG4 satnav, grey leather seats and faux leather interior). They didn't notice the leather on the dash was not real.

The RCZ is just as similar to the 308 as the Audi TT is to a Golf...

Also, it's ridiculous to compare the price of a full spec RCZ with a bog standard Porsche or whatever so stop doing that. Everyone knows that the options on German premium brands are more expensive than the comparable Peugeot spec.
If you match the spec the price of the RCZ is competitive and the quality is as well.

So I took the RCZ on the track about 2 weeks ago. Here is more or less how it went:
New Golf 7 GTI - I am as fast through the corners, he eats me on the straight but I nail him on the brakes
Clio 197 RS - Same through corners, RCZ dominates in straight line
Civic Type R - What a joke
Civic Type R Championship edition - It was pretty even but in the end the RCZ lapped faster
SLK 32 AMG - Fast on the straights
Audi TT - No contest in corners or on the brakes. More or less the same in a straight line.

I think the RCZ THP200 is pretty darn capable around the track. If i can sort the sound on the camera out I will post some vids.

Max - I'd be interested to know if the owner of the Mk7 Golf GTI has the performance pack fitted with electronic diff. If so, and taking nothing away from either your drivjngt ability nor the RCZ, he should have absolutely taken you on corners.

We dont have the PP in SA yet.

Isnt that whats it about though, i am an average drive, that bro was an average driver, and on that day, that track with those average drivers, the RCZ was able to hang on to the G7

Oh btw - PP = mechanical diff, GTI comes standard with e-diff. The RCZ lapped the track almost 6s faster than my 2.0TSI VW CC last year! Well impressed with the Z

Apologies I couldn't recall which one it had off the top of my head but you're absolutely right. Forgot the standard one came with the electronic diff and the PP one with the mechanical (proper diff). Intrigued and impressed to hear that the RCZ held on to it. Really hope you can get your footage sorted. Would love to see it!

Driver dependant....eh...This track day thing has never captured my imagination but each to their own i suppose, during my search for a new car in march i was glued to the internet watching videos/reading reviews of the Focus ST,Megane 265,Astra VXR...mk Vl/mk Vll gti...The Megane being the fastest round a track then just behind the VXR then the Focus  FACT. but what car would they take home and use daily :eusa-think: A Focus ST :thumbup:/GOLF GTI or vice versa the other 2 cars never entered that equation  One journalist classed the megane RS and vxr "As blunt instruments inside and outside"

The normal ctr is 3 sec roughly slower round the nurburgring than the normal civic.......

Your rcz is not faster than the championship white ctr neither is it faster the new Golf GTI which has 20 bhp more and 50 more torques 100kg lighter Driver depandant or maybe they just didnt WANT to kill their cars out on the track that day.

My neighbour across the road has the right idea drives a Z4 3.0i m sport  and his car for the weekend/track days is a little Lotus EXIGE.... :eusa-whistle:

And is the RCZ a girls car :eusa-think: No

On that day, on that track, with those drivers, the RCZ was faster. I am no race driver and neither were those guys. If you compare cars, you compare them with what the average Joe can do in them. Not what Michael Schumacher or a car magazine can.

And I promise you, you get on a track with the adrenalin flowing, you go as fast as you can. Stop hating dude, its getting really old...

Well a simple 205 GTi outruns a Porsche anyday given the right track/road to do it on too, and there's quite a performance difference there too no matter what car you choose from.

I saw a video by Autocar driving a Clio RS 197 on the Route Napoleon chased by a Gallardo LP560-4 and the Gallardo barely kept up. Numbers never tell the whole truth, and as Max said, "If you compare cars, you compare them with what the average Joe can do in them. Not what Michael Schumacher or a car magazine can."

Hating what Max.......You must accept by posting a post like you have, some people are going to disagree mate,Figures do speak volumes especially when it comes to the power and weight of a car as these cars take less effort to drive faster

Awe Tomas be specific for a change eh...?? "A 205 gti out runs what type of porsche" in tight twisty roads a clio197 rs will keep up to a extent with any lambo but not on a racetrack as whats been spoken about

You are clearly reading the figures wrong... Do you understand power to weight?

Here you go: http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel3297-4563.htm

Less than 1 second between the THP200 and the G7 GTI around killarney. Now please tell me how you reckon I did not keep up with the GTI. Please explain, and maybe I am really dumb so use small words and short sentences.

What is the difference in the two car's power to weight ratio? I think I recall the 200 RCZ being around 144bhp/tonne and the new Mk7 seems to be 161 bhp/tonne? Is this correct? Haven't seen too much mention of the ratio for the new GTI but managed to unearth this quoted power to weight ratio. Not sure if it's bang on though?

Is the above info from your track day?

No, that is an international database with data from all over the world. Those lap times were both tested in South Africa by our local publication CAR.

But like I said, on that day, running against the G7, I also found that there were very little between the GTI and the RCZ. Good to see a local publication backing what I am saying.

So they take their info for their "data sheets" from an amalgamation of global car magazine tests?
