Ok a quick update, I managed to get my hand round to the chain tensioner. It is in tight and doesn’t appear to be the source of the oil leak as far as I can tell. In which case I might just leave it alone as the turbo air intake is a nightmare to remove.

So my best bet at the moment is the oil leak being from the valve gasket, and no idea what is causing the p0016, perhaps a bad sensor. If I take the rocker cover off I can finally rule out a timing Chain issue.

Took the car for it’s first drive since the hpfp change and now the p0016 is no longer appearing! Let’s hope it’s gone forever :)

The HPFP change for me solved many codes at a stroke but not before many parts were changed ( to no avail!).

Hope that's it - fingers crossed.

I may be wrong but unless the valve cover has been off at some stage the gaskets are not normally known to fail & particularly after a chain replacement they must be resealed properly as per the manufacturers instructions

I think that the common issue of the valve cover leaking is exactly as you said once it’s been removed it’s never replaced properly mine started leaking after a timing China replacement, and I’ve had a new seal done by Peugeot but that is also leaking! I’ve noticed that the cover on the wife’s Mini Cooper S has been sealed with gasket sealer when the timing chain was replaced by a mini specialist they’ve probably encountered the leaking gasket loads of times so make sure it won’t leak!

The issue is probably due to contamination when they replaced the gasket & also how tight they bolt them down I have the data sheet somewhere in the file regarding the advises given to the techs about cleaning procedures & what chemicals you can & cannot use on certain sections relating to dismantling & refitting of parts after repairs etc

Ugh p0016 is back. Car is driving fine.
freeze frame
Fuelsys1 cl
load pct 12.9
etc 126
shrtftq 3.1
longft1 0.8
map 8.5
rpm 1195
vss 17
frp 699

as far as I can tell these numbers are fine. no strange noises from the engine. Let’s hope the oil & filter change will fix it.
i have cleared the error for now.

sadly I have no history of the car, but at 100k I would be surprised if it hasn’t had a timing chain change by now. looking under the bonnet there is oil everywhere, and it definitely shows signs of oil around the rocker cover. I have ruled out the chain tensioner. the oil leak doesn’t appear to happen when the engine is off. When I rev hard in idle I get a few new drops.
i have it booked in at the garage on Monday to take a look at the oil leak and heavy steering (fluid is at the right level, drive belt is not slack, tyre pressure is fine, power steering works but is consistently heavy - does not get lighter with revs) let’s see what they find...
I have ramps in the post, I plan to flush the power steering fluid and change the oil & filter, and transmission oil while I am at it.

Ok oil and filter changed, p0016 persists. Even before the oil change, it takes longer to appear than previously, I would estimate around 10 mins of driving.
a correlation I have noticed is fuelsys1 ol-drive. I’m not sure if this is significant.
I have taken the car to two garages now regarding the oil leak, neither could determine the source.
I think I should take it to a dealership. The nearest one is 30 miles. Car drives fine, do you think it is same to drive there?
everywhere I look online seems to indicate p0016 = stretched timing chain.

Engine sounds fine. It’s definitely more quiet since the oil change

Oh, and the garage said the oil leak was unlikely to be the rocker gasket as the middle of the engine was clean

If the oil is like a thin slime check for a breather hose leak it may be blowing out oil mist somewhere these are tricky because if you clean up the engine then drive off again as you get a vortex of Air under the bonnet this can act as a spray gun throwing up oil residues across the engine

That code P0016 = Camshaft position correlation bank 1 Sensor A is a generic code on most if not all manufactured cars but if the car is running fine with no check lights then it would point to the sensor being damaged or as I explained before the engine has had Oil issues

car is running fine, but I have an engine fault repair needed message after 5 mins of driving, then each time I start the car after that until I clear the error code. Error code is only the p0016 message. engine sounds fine and behaves normally. No difficulty starting, no stalling or shuddering.
I really hope it is a sensor issue. I have an appointment with a Peugeot specialist on Tuesday.
i have had a look under the car and the source of the oil leak is very hard to pinpoint. there is oil present on the corners of the valve cover but the middle of the engine looks dry. The pan and gearbox have a lot of oil on them. Looking up in the car I can see a splash of oil on the turbo intercooler pipe just behind where the tensioner is. I was thinking the tensioner could be the cause of both oil leak and p0016, but I previously managed to get my hand on it before and it was tight in with no feel of excessive oil below it. It’s so hard to tell what’s going on as there is oil on everything, even the drive belt squeaks a little which I expect is from oil.

oil didnt come out slimy when I did the change, just very black.

i might check the oil pressure sensor, and the vvt sensor.

Oil feed pipe feed to the Turbo has been known to fail at the Banjo coupling on the block I believe the seals are usually causing the oil to escape if it is that causing the issue the you will lose a fair amount over time
I changed one on a 207 GT convertible once are they a real pain but you have to to change the feed pipe ( recommended By Peugeot) mainly because they are a consumable item but if its gone I would replace it with a aftermarket Flexi metal sheath type hose which are easier to fit & apparently last longer that is if your keeping the car
The VVTI sensor could send out a fault but it sounds like from what your saying about the car running fine that the Valve & Cam timing is operating within its parameters so I would be surprised if the ECU is sending out a fault for those two so its poss the sensors & maybe a leak in the Oil system feeds/returns or at a pinch you may have a crankcase breather leak ?
Regarding the Oil being black this is mainly attributed to the dirty residues from the sump draining off as you can change the oil & check the stick & it looks clean & yet if you run the car for 1000 klm & change it again it would look the same so that is not a indication of how long its been in the engine which is due to the cleaning components in all Oils theses days

If your getting oil on the auxiliary belt you just might have crankshaft oil seal failure as its recommended they are renewed with the timing chain cassette system & also you have to clean the seal housing as there can be absolutely no crap left in the aperture before the new seal is inserted

Ok thanks :) I have decided to give up and leave it to the specialist now. Hopefully I can get there before a total lockdown.
I am in love with the car so will be keeping it once I overcome all these issues.

So I was thinking that there might be oil contamination on the drive belt because I get a squeaking sound with heavy turning, and the steering feels consistently a little heavy. Also Looking down at that area things do look a little wet in places. I ordered a new belt so was going to replace it, along with powersteering fluid flush and see if it made any difference

One thing worth noting is the terrible fuel economy right now and occasional white smoke from the exhaust.
i have half a tank right now but am questioning if I can make it to the specialist tomorrow. its only 20 miles
