Recently I’ve bought the peugeot rcz 2012 thp 156 on an auction on ebay. The previous owner stated that there is an oil leak. After getting home, I looked for it , and found it at the back of the engine, drivers side. The oil leak is major, and has left a puddle on the ground . This oil leak is present when the car is stationary, and hasn’t been turned on. It also smells like burning oil when the car is driven, and I think it’s from the oil dripping on hot engine parts. I have checked the oil sump gasket , and also the plug, and it’s neither of them. it seems to be coming from above , to the right (if looking at the engine from the front of the car) I’m currently 16, and bought this car as my first car, and I am trying to fix this car to have it as my first. Does anybody know what could be a cause of this? On the service history , it also says that the rocker cover gasket has been changed 10,000 miles ago , and the oil filter housing seals changed out at about the same time as the rocker cover gasket. I also decided to run an OBD scan on the car , and got a P000A error code . I found that the turbo air intake pipe was snapped off, and fixed that , but that hasn’t fixed the check engine light. Below is the attached photo of the engine , and the underneath , and circled is the area where there is fresh oil dripping off the object. Can anybody help me?

Some extracts from the Service book... It might give you an idea of what to look for (and what things are called).

Old trick is wash all the oil off then work from there but the diagrams may point to the culprit?

It’s hard to get to the top of where the oil is leaking from , so making it super hard to clean off all the oil. i haven’t yet checked the place that is in the diagrams due to weather , but i will asap

I think, as Pedro say, first thing would be to wash it all down so you can see where the oil starts from.
Buy yourself a 5L tub of brake and clutch cleaner or engine degreaser and get an empty trigger spray from the kitchen instead of paying for the aerosol, you’ll probably go thru quite a bit. It can be quite a few things up that area, and don’t rule on the rocker cover gasket it may have accidentally been miss fitted or fitted using sealant.
Good luck with it and dont forget to keep shouting in as you move along.

ps welcome to the world of the RCZ, once you get the bugs out and your license you should enjoy the experience.

Update- (I kind of forgot to update you guys) I tried fixing it , as the weather is a lot nicer now . I tried a few things with the rocker cover , and changed out the crankcase breather pipe (I think that’s what it’s called) this has slowed the leak from what i can see , but it still leaks . I have also discovered a little bit of coolant leak . Any tips for what still may cause the leak? (as it’s both oil and coolant )

some suggestion, but unfortunately there are more things for each.

Oil leak - you changed the crankcase breather and the leak reduced? Do you mean the ‘?’ shape pipe coming out of the valve cover? The end of that pipe at the cover should have a rubber sleeve in the end of it that seals and grips. i have in the past seen two pipes come out of their package without it (out of lots that have it), was yours there? Could it have misaligned? Also have seen guys fit a jubilee clip in there to keep it gripped tight. Heat very quickly helps misaligned or damaged ones leak. If you are getting a lot of oil from there I might be inclined to check the valve cover itself. There is a pcv setup in the cover, two diaphragms one negative the other positive, and it could be that these are on perished allowing excessive oil mist blow by into the ? Shaped pipe. If you take the other end off where it meets the cold air pipe to the turbo and it’s dripping, look further at your covers diaphragms and consider changing the cover.
Side note, the valve cover gaskets are not that expensive heat hardens them reducing the ability to seal, and bogging an old one with sealant is never a solution for a cover leak, the only sealant used on it should be two pea sized dabs on the internal ‘corners’ at the fuel pump/vacuum pump side, if you haven’t already done so I would consider changing it. if you do change it, make sure the new gasket is squeaky clean, including the groove in the valve cover and the edge around the engine head. With those two uppermost looked into, clean the engine and see if the leak persists.
Oil leaks left too long can ruin rubber and plastic components leading to further issues down the road.

Coolant leak - are you noticing the level drop or have you spotted a puddle forming?
Common leak points are:-
Expansion cap no longer sealing (staining down the side of bottle and below).
Expansion bottle split usually along its seam, (staining on lower section of tank and below)
Thermostat housing (staining on top of gearbox)
Thermostat to water pump cross pipe seals (coolant stains down by rear engine mount, you have it shown the mount in one of your pics ref the oil drip)
Water pump to radiator pipe after some timing chain jobs can get misaligned such that it rubs on the driveshaft. Yours has had this issue and has been bodged with a bit of pipe and jubilee clips but the oil leak has soaked into the rubber and turned it to soft goo. Edge of your red circle.
Water pump (staining down the side of the engine block)
Then you have your easier to see items, radiator, rad pipes etc at the front. If you can’t quickly spot a leak point a pressure test kit is relatively inexpensive and can save you time and money identifying the source of a coolant leak.

I am changing a thermostat housing, cross pipe, and maybe also water pump later this week on a car so I’ll try and rem to take some photos that may be helpful. Seems that Peugeot designed these to fail at about 60k or a bit over.

here’s a link to the bodged pipe, other suppliers do them too, if you change it make sure and position so it’s not rubbing on the driveshaft.
