It's the kind of job they will rub their hands over and have a big smile on I've not bothered to look at the details of the RCZ engine but generally it's just a couple of clips before removing a plastic cover. Taking out the old one and putting a new one in before replacing the plastic cover back in place.

I've always been of the opinion that you should know how your engine works. Probably because I'm an engineer but a quick search on google will give you all the basics you need to know about how an internal combustion engine works.

Yes but I have no interest therefore knowledge retention tends to be an issue.

I have run all my performance cars with K&N filters. I trust the fact they remove more particles and provides more efficient air-flow than any paper filter can. It is for these reasons I have used them. If I get improved MPG and/or perfromance, that to me is a bonus.

Installation is not too difficult, just a little cramped in where it is located (back of engine bay).

I wonder how much the dealership would charge to install it if I buy one and drop it off before my delivery date?
I know nothing about engines are wouldn't feel comfortable doing it myself to be honest.

Paul, changing an air filter is the easiest job (and the first you should learn) to do on a car - even if you have no knowledge of engines.

Unless you're like my dad's mate who didn't know how much air to put in the tyres on his Cayenne and proceeded to blow them - up you'll have no problems with it :lol:

I've looked at videos on line and looked in my engine bay and it seems an easy job, so I'm going to order one and install it myself.

I would never have thought of doing this in the past but thanks to all you helpful guys I've learnt something. Thank you.

"It is possible for the oil from a new or freshly cleaned and re-oiled filter to deposit on the hot-wire or film of the MAF (Mass Air Flow sensor)"

The oil on a K&N filter will not drip or deposit anywhere, I had to move the brake fluid res to fit mine.

It is 'possible' if you over oil it, but I have never had an issue with them and I have run engines with MAFs producing over 600 bhp. If you are worried, just wipe it before you install it. If you are still worried, move on and don't do it :crazy:

At this present time K&N only has a filter for the petrol 1.6, K&N does not have a filter for the diesel 2.0 as of now, and I cannot find any other after-market company that does either.... :thumbdown:

Already oiled when you buy it. Cleaning and re-oiling depends on climate (e.g. dry and dusty would require it be cleaned and re-oiled sooner than here in England) :beer:

Well my K&N filter arrived yesterday and I had the day off today and some time to spare this morning so feeling confident I knew exactly what I was doing, I set to work.

One thing that had stuck in my mind was Bradshaw saying he had to remove the brake fluid reservoir I'd located the air filter from the RCZ manual so up went the bonnet and duly found said air filter. Unclipped the clip holding the plastic cover in place. :roll: First thought .......... the K&N filter won't fit in there. :shock: ...............................
............... Then it occurred to me what Bradshaw had said ................ :!: The air filter is located right at the back of the engine, for which I didn't have the right tool to get the screws off. :lol:

I'm afraid I had to play the pathetic female and I will have to wait for my husband to get his tool out on Saturday

So what is the air filter, located at the front of the engine just to the right, for then?

From your description (and I'm assuming you mean at the front on the left by the battery), I think your talking about the air inlet. This points forward to get a 'ram' effect into the air intake system, trying to get air as cold as possie into the engine ( so it's dense and more power per cc can be extracted).

The filter element is in the black plastic box across the back of the engine. You need a Torx bit to undo the screws - not sure what size but it's nothing unusual.

My filter arrived today, so I'll be doing this job tomorrow
