Can I ask Davie, are you photos HDR'd?

Does that mean he's cheating??  Disqualification?? :eusa-whistle: :eusa-whistle:

No, it's a form of processing. You can use a dedicated program or Photoshop can do it too. It's a bit like Marmite - some people like the effect others hate it!

I'm not that clever! I have the software, but can't be bothered to get a tripod out and take the bracketed (is that the term) shots to join together.

I plonked it into Snapspeed and cheated instead

I disqualify myself it it's not allowed!!!!

No it's fine Davie. It just looked like it had the HDR "look" to it. Nothing wrong with it.

Well, I think HDR happens 'in-the-camera'.

That being the case, I'm not sure it's grounds for disqualification.

Traditional chemical photographers (ones that used light sensitive paper and developing chemicals) use all sorts of techniques to make their prints as artistic as they want. In one sense, Photoshop is no different, really.

However, I think most people draw the line at making one photograph out of several different images.

Pete, HDR is a processing technique NOT done in camera, although some camera manufacturers have recently launched a camera that does do it in camera, but it's in it's very early stages. Most people who are going to use it will use dedicated program's for it. It's definitely not grounds for disqualification and no-one is even suggesting that shoud be the case. Just as people use different techniques to process their photographs, digital or film.
Making a Photograph out of several different images is again another artistic licence and I personally don't see anything wrong with that. I've seen some fantastic images of this kind. For the purposes of the photographic competition, as long as the person posting the photo is the owner and has taken the picture(s), then it is art and should be allowed. :D

Ok - stand corrected on HDR & agree that all techniques can be used for artistic effect, just like choice of lens, aperture, focus, exposure etc.

I do believe that this is what the iPhone 4 does when HDR is switched on. Takes 2 photos then combines for the best possible outcome.

Nothing wrong with that Donna  you can't turn a bad picture into a good one just by the way it's been processed.
Get it right in camera and you won't go far wrong.

Hi!

Thank you so much. The car obviously gets attention, I've had quite a few lovely comments....oh and a few less complimentary ones from ...friends.... And the plate has provoked a few smiles and comments too. A great combination in my opinion....but I would say that wouldn't I .....:)

Anyhow, I very much appreciate your post.

Have a happy weekend everyone
