Ohhhhh  I feel heartfelt sorry for you! I can't believe it took so much metal away with no obvious damage to the sidewall, how did it happen?

The tyre does appear to be intact and no leak has presented itself. Twas my own stupid fault. I was approaching a roundabout on a dual carriageway a LGV was at the front of the queue on the inside lane, I approached on the outside lane, as the LGV pulled away he appeared to me to "drift" a little too much into my lane a quick check to my right see if I could continue without slowing down any more and wallop. Well and truly kerbed at speed

Oh man, what a sickener   But it can probably be fixed. Have you got a 'Wheel Specialist' near you? They're really good and can fix in a day.

I was gutted when I 'caressed' a kerb in a whiteout a couple of weeks back, but mine is just scuffed.

Ouch.

I've seen worse damaged and repaired though :eusa-think:

But I know that horrible sinking feeling, I felt the same when I scuffed mine.

Fella that repaired mine did an awesome job, even close up you cannot see the repair.

Sorry to see that Ron, at least its repairable and not a major incident/accident. Look for a positive in all things.

Good to hear people think it's repairable. My first thought was it was a goner, I'm amazed at what can be done to repair alloys these says.

Did it knock the tracking out at all?

The depth of the damage is quite deep :( I dont think it could be machined down and not noticed ron as the full depth would need to be Machined off right round the circumference of the wheel :( so it would need be to Filled just like fillings in our teeth so to speak but Damn...eh :(

Oh I feel your pain :( however I do believe that is repairable. On my last car, I scrapped my alloy really bad. It looked far worse than yours does. I had it repaired and you couldn't see a thing. So don't despair too much, there is a light I see at the end of that tunnel....:)

I have an appointment tomorrow with a coffee bean roaster, depending upon how long I am there, I will make a call to a wheel repairer that I met at the Swissvax open day a while back. I have lost his business card but feel sure that I have in putted his details onto the car phone (here's hoping) if so and he is available I shall take a trip to see him. I have a full sized spare in the boot, however that is shod with a summer tyre, whilst the others are all winter. I had intended having all four wheels refurbished once I had bought my new set of wheels and had the winter tyres changed back to summers, but events seem to have overtaken me. One wheel appears to me to be cracked and it appears to be from where it has had balance added. None of them seem to have a great deal of paint on them and despite not being damaged still appear to be looking tired.

Called into the refurbishers today. Fortunately as suggested on here, it is repairable and was quoted £55  Shall await the arrival of my new wheels and get all four tarted up as the other are covered in scratches. I must stop using a wheel brush to clean the inside edge as this is the most likely suspect for all of the scratches

I use a soft dish washing brush bought from the £1 shop, its the perfect angle and length to get inside the wheel, I've wrapped the head in a couple of small microfibre cloths to stop any scratches, holding them on with small elastic bands.
I also use a microfibre mitten to wash the outside of the wheel and the spokes.

I tried a number of different "made for the job" wheel brush's, but they were all either too hard and gave slight swirl marks or wrong shape to get right inside the wheel, so I decided to just make one up.
