Hi, I am on the hunt...!

By the sounds of it I should maybe ask the salesman to fill the tank to maximum for my test drive... :eusa-whistle:

I hope I enjoy the drive as much as the looks! Am I best waiting to drive a petrol or will I get a good idea from the diesel. Only down to the fact that the dealership 5 minutes from me has 2 diesel GT's on the forecourt currently!

Whichever you test you will probably first notice that the driving position is odd and the pedals are high so it will seem pretty strange coming from a Fiesta. But once you get used to it, it's actually very comfortable.

Since the pre notion is that diesels are slow I would take one for a test drive, just to see how slow they are.
Then when you drive a petrol you can compare.
Diesel = 163bhp

I have no doubt on the performance of the diesel, I just don't do enough miles to justify getting one.

And my commute is too short, so I think it would cause me problems...

The search will definitely ramp up tomorrow though and over the weekend. They look an ideal height to be able to detail and maintain anyway! :)

Lewis, a fine selection of replacements there but obviously the RCZ has to be the lead runner. Given what you're replacing I think that the 156 might prove a little disappointing to you. It's not a slouch but you have to rev it hard to get the performance out of it. I'm assuming that you had your ST mapped because isn't the Mountune version only 212bhp?

My recommendation to you would be to hold out for the 200. I think that it will deliver the performance and package that you're looking for. If you're looking pre facelift then I would definitely go for the GT spec by the sounds of what you are looking for. I'd also definitely recommend looking out for one with the vision pack. It was the option that I most regretted not speccing when I had mine.

The Mountune is only a remap itself as well. That produces 215 (MP215 is the name for it) on paper. I went for a different brand and was/am more than happy with the performance.

There are a couple of GT 200's I have seen that look nice, and like you, think I will need to keep to that power so that I don't feel disappointed with the performance.

Although saying that, I am currently driving a 1.25 fiesta courtesy car so any engine will be an upgrade!

Is the vision pack rare to find then?

Mine has it, and it was only the third Z I looked at. The other two didn't. I think it was quite a popular option, so there might be quite a few knocking about.

Also, the Nav seems to be very popular, and some have even taken to retro-fitting it, so might also be worth keeping an eye out for. :eusa-think:

Agreed. It was one option I didn't have on my Z and it looks the bomb in my opinion. Also, the Nav unit looks awesome too so it might be worth trying to find one with both options. Should make it easier to sell too later :eusa-whistle:

I would agree about the Vision Pack. My first 2 Zs didn't have them but my R has and they are brilliant. I seriously don't think I could go back to normal headlights ever again!

Thanks for the pointers. Is it easy to see if the vision pack is fitted? Do the headlights look noticeably different?

If the Nav is fitted great, if it's not too expensive to purchase and fit myself I'll do it, if not, I'll use my Garmin! :)

I agree that it's good to have as many extras fitted as possible for sell on value though.

Does the leather wear well? Bolsters go as with most cars?

Good to see I'm not the only one who travelled quite some distance to get my Z, 4 hours each way! Was good to have a long first drive in it though :D

I have the 156 and at the moment I'm more than happy with the performance but saying that, I did test drive a 200 and there is a noticeable difference, so would definitely go for that in your case as you're coming from an ST. Would definitely go for the GT spec, there's not too much price difference in terms of used RCZs and it's well worth it for the bigger wheels and heated leather interior (tyres aren't cheap on 19s though!)

One way to see if the vision pack is fitted is to go on the menu button on the CD player, and there's a setting on there for directional headlights - I'm pretty sure these only come with the vision pack, although I'm happy to be corrected if not!

In answer to your question about the leather, mine is a 10 plate with 41k on the clock and the leather is in very similar condition to my parents' 1 year old Range Rover. This is probably partly due to me using products on it regularly to keep it in good condition, but it's a fairly good indicator of quality. I saw a thread on here where someone mentioned 'bum craters' starting to appear in the drivers seat, and they are beginning to appear a little bit in mine, but not really more than I would expect, and it's the same with any leather seats I think - my Astra Convertible on 70k was much much worse.

I also looked at TTs and am glad I didn't go for one. The Z is much more individual, plus an equivalent TT is often another 5 grand! They're still lovely cars, but not worth it for me personally. That's not to say I'd rule it out completely - the new one especially is a superb looking car.

Good luck with the hunt, I don't think you'll regret going for a Z - I definitely don't!

The xenon lamps have the dome shaped reflector lenses in the headlight cluster and it will say "Xenon" on the side of this reflector and it will also have two little doors below the headlight in the bumper which house the alien headlight washers, which are required to accompany all xenon headlight units on any car that has them fitted. The photo in the header of this page features a Z with xenons.

That's a great help again, thanks!

I shall look for the Xenon lights then as well. I am in no rush so can wait for the right car to come along.

Looks like I will be going for the GT 200 spec with as many extras as possible (although they have a lot anyway) in grey/blue/white/red and the black (?) leather interior.

I love the white paintwork but just feel you never get a good shine when detailing. I currently have black, and that is a nightmare to keep clean. Leaning towards to grey to be honest! Or the 'silvery grey' I have seen...

Keep an eye on pistonheads and the peugeot website, you can actually pick up some real bargains from main dealers, though some of it depends on your budget, just take into account anything that may need changing and the usual service costs/insurance.

Just insuring (today) mine through Onecall Insurance, through MoneySupermarket. Fully Comp, protected bonus, £100 XS, breakdown cover, legal cover, £210 for the year. I thought that was reasonable. :eusa-think:

My R is £240 for all of the above. Can't complain at that.

@Lewis - I've on my second white RCZ and love them. For me, it is the best colour for the RCZ as it shows off its lines well. Moroccan Red was a dream to detail but nonetheless I still get a great shine on white. Machine polish and refine the finish to get the best shine then protect it with a coating of your choice. Coatings/sealants give a crisper / sharper finish on white. During the summer I also put a coat of two of wax on - just because I'm a Waxaddict ;)
