hello from shropshire my name is paul and i brought a rcz 2 months ago in august. me and the wife had set about buying a used 208 gti or a rcz i prefered a 208gti at the time but my wife wanted the rcz. We had decided we wanted the 200 version if it was to be a rcz (i can only dream of a rcz'r) . So we then spent most of august looking at 3 gti's and probably 10 rcz's travelling upto 80 miles going from main agents to car supermarkets. Wow what an eye opener 1 gti was hesitant in revving probably been abused it had dents etc so i walked away the rcz's we viewed was not much better 1 in particular @ a supermarket in the inside showroom part had what can only be described as the contents of a leaf vacuum tipped inside the engine bay my wife actually said wow thats bad for a showroom the sales man became embarressed we walked again. i began to think we wont find a unabused gti or rcz until 1 evening a white 200 sport appeared at a independants it had 9500 miles on a nov 2012 plate phase 1 rcz. it was just short of 3 yrs old @ 9500 mls & there was 3 main dealer pug stamps in the book it was approx 50 miles away. i just had to go see it i would have prefered it to be a gt model but if it was as good as the add described it i would be more than happy to settle for a sport 200 model it outweighed it not being a gt as i wanted a perfect rcz. At first glance i could tell it was way better condition than all the others i had viewed i first checked the oil before starting it was light golden colored and just below max i turned the key and the car instantly came to life no tensioner noise no chain noise nothing at all i let the engine run at idle for at least 2 mins i then gave some very light revs and it purred no noise again just smooth revs. i was allowed to test drive on my own big bonus no anoying sales man i had no reason to rev above 4500rpm on the test drive i could tell the car was genuine i decided to buy this rcz and i am very very happy with this rcz i even rang the pug dealer who stamped the book after i purchased to verify the stamps in the service book the service manager at stoke peugot remembered the car and said that i had brought a well looked after car from a private owner of a similar age as myself big bonus there no boy racer or lease car.. i have owned many pugs over the years from 205 gti's 405 gtx 205 cti, 206 gti 207 gt and now a rcz luckily a friend of mine is a garage service manager and he allows me to use his ramps i then buy all my parts from pug and do servicing @ 5000 ml intervals i am in my late 40's so i dont go much over 3000 rpm these days i prefer to have a nice waxed up serviced car rather a molested racing car its my age i guess...i have been there done that etc. i am sorry for the long post but would just like to say i have found these forums very useful & its been a long time since i was a member of a car forum i think it was my 205 cti i last was a member of a forum at least 8 yrs ago. anyways hi to every one i will get some pics up asap and hope to contribute to the forum...

congratulations and welcome to the forum :greetings-wavingblue:
I have just sold my RCZ for a 208 GTi so I can understand your predicament. I had the bullet proof diesel RCZ and I moved over to the THP engine which is a corker. you appear to have found yourself a really good second hand buy so well done on that front and you will find plenty of info and advice on this forum from some very helpful members.

enjoy

I hope the RCZ that chose you proves to be everything you hoped for, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Welcome.

I can agree with your experience in viewing neglected cars in showrooms.

I travelled half the country to get the right spec and condition for both our RCZ's.

One viewing in particular irked me. Travelled 80 miles to see an advertised mint Asphalt (in a showroom alongside Porsches etc). On viewing it had that much cosmetically wrong it would have taken £1,000 pound to sort out.

thank you for the kind welcomes. Yes some of the cars we viewed where a complete joke we also looked at a ashphalt it had 4 small dents just on the rear arch the sales man said we will try to get those out but can not guarantee it i almost laughed and just walked away. i am a very happy rcz owner i have already serviced mine just 2 months after owning. it wasnt really required but i enjoyed doing it and it gave me a chance to look underneath no buckled jackin points etc. i have seen some lovely ones on here in the members photos section thanks again for the welcome..

If you can find an RCZ without scratched alloys then it's likely the body will be mint and it will have been well looked after. Those 19's are easy to kerb!

Sounds like one I looked at near Derby. Salesman thought dents were totally acceptable on a 14k car.

yes that must have been the 1 i looked at & it was in derby i recall the photos & description seemed ok before going over which was about a 120 mile round trip. It was really odd 4 small dents over the rear arch as if it had been punched i explained that surely it would be in there interest to have it in a body shop before going on sale. The reply i got was if you purchase the car we will try to fix it but wont guarantee that we can i instantly no longer had any interest in that car or any others on sale there & my search continued..

They said the same to me. Had a pretty badly scuffed alloy as well and the sales staff there were pretty shoddy. I walked quickly like you.

It's hard to believe that they said they couldn't guarantee to get the dents out !!!!

Any body shop worth going to can guarantee to make any car look either like new, or better than new. :eusa-think:

I looked at a few RCZ's before being chosen by mine, but they were all pretty much like new. This one had a couple of scuffs on the 19"s but as Renegade said, it's very difficult to not scuff them. I have done another couple since buying mine.

Someone has also done a very slight mark in the front bumper and a spotty little Erk caught the passenger door with his push scooter the other day.

I think it is almost impossible to keep a car without the slightest mark, unless you are happy spending a lot of money & time in body shops.

We eventually had to travel a long way to buy our Z, but the trip was certainly worth it

Just before we bought the Z we were looking for a Mini for my step-daughters 18th Birthday present.

The number we saw that were described as "excellent condition" that turned out to be right lemons!

I spoke to a guy in Bradford who had exactly the car we were wanting. I explained we had some distance to travel, so I needed to know it actually was in the condition described, as if it wasn't, we wouldn't be buying it. He assured me it was in showroom condition.

When we arrived to look at it, I couldn't believe the car on the forecourt was the one we had gone to see. I thought they must have another one somewhere.

The salesman came out and started his "pitch" with something like, " nice car this one, we have had a lot of interest in it" I instantly replied, "probably from body shops more than customers though I would imagine"
I got really quite annoyed when I realised this was the car they had described on the phone to me, and had me driving all the way to Bradford to see.

It never fails to amaze me that they think customers either won't see the dents, tears, rust, scratches, or just won't mind them

Anyway, she has got a brand new Seat Ibiza FR now & loves it. I think the Mini will still be sitting on the forecourt some 2 years after we went to look at it

It's a 1.4 (I think) it has a turbo and it is pretty quick, it's just too "easy" to drive. Seriously every driving instructor in the country should use these. :eusa-think:

Looking forward to test driving my Brothers Mercedes GLA 45 AMG tomorrow (he is signing for it in the morning)
0 - 60 4.3 seconds. 360 BHP. If everything is ok he will be signing anyway, but I'm going to have to persuade the salesman I need to drive it too :eusa-whistle:
