Hi All, have i bought a lemon?

Hi all, I bought an RCZ a couple of weeks ago, THP 200 in black 45k on the clock.

Lovely looking car and I was enjoying driving until the 3rd day when the coolant warning flashed up when starting the car after work. The expansion tank was completely empty so I topped up straight away with water and drove home.

The car sat at 90c all the way so I thought everything was good until I got home, I got out the car to find water dripping from the bottom.

The next day I called the dealer and explained the issue and sent him a video of the water dripping from the under the car. He said the car would need recovering back but when I asked if this is something they would do he said they have no facilities do so and asked if I had breakdown cover, I told him id check and get back to him the next day.

Unfortunately I only had road side assistance with my car insurance so they would not recover to the dealer, a stalemate then ensued as I told him I was unwilling to pay for recovery on a car ive had 3 days. This was resolved when I contacted the broker who sorted my finance out, he called the dealer having known him for many years and put pressure on to pick the car up. I got a call the next day asking for the postcode where the car was and was told they would recover the car back.. hallelujah the car got picked up.

I contacted the dealer over the next day or so (by text) and asked for an update, he replied the car didn't loose any water when he drove it back but had left it with his mechanic and will contact him for an update.

Immediately I though WTF drove he told me it needed recovering, anyway later in the afternoon after me texting again I got a message saying they had ordered the part and should have the car back the next day. The next day came and I was told the part had been fitted but was awaiting a road test and pressure test. So I waited again until the next day.

Day 3. I was told the car still leaked and the mechanic was investigating the Turbo pump and it it wasn't that the were going to "strip it down".

Day 4. Again I waited for news but nothing, I test again and this time I got back they had stripped the car and sent the head off for testing as they suspected a head gasket and I would have to wait until it came back.

The weekend passed so the Monday I asked for news, still waiting on the head to come back but was expecting it any time. Next few days went by so I called this time and he explained that the head was sent off as a precaution, he also explained how the water pump has a plastic housing and has been issues on the mini etc. He was positive I would have the car back in the next couple of days.

Again no news so I text for an update, I was told the head was back and the engine was being built back up. Couple of more days which was last Wednesday I called again and was told the car was ready and they were waiting on it being dropped off by the mechanic. Thursday, called again still waiting on the mechanic and was told he was majorly busy because of the bank holiday coming and the dealer even offer to catch the bus to get the car but if they didn't get the car back it would be after the bank holiday.

Yesterday (Tuesday) I text for an update and was told he had seen the mechanic on Saturday and they were awaiting a pipe from Peugeot and if it come back today the car should be ready... Called the broker again who said hes going to call in the showroom (Wednesday.. Today) and ask what's going on.

Today heard nothing as yet..

Id of gone down my self but its in Stockport and I don't have a car and really don't want to take time off as they shut at 5pm.

What do you guys think, am I being fobbed off, ever heard of head gaskets going (car ran perfect other than loosing water when the turbo cooling pump was running).

Am I going to have major issues with this car, its really put a massive downer on owning an RCZ.

Any thought would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi sorry to hear about your troubles  sounds to me like another case of part changers! :eusa-think: not diagnosing the problem correctly and just throwing parts at it till it works! Either that or their just fobbing you off because their too busy to do your warranty job.
It sounds like a big step to take to remove a cylinder head just as a precaution :eusa-think: you don't say weather your dealer is a main Peugeot dealer or not? If so contact Peugeot uk customer service to investigate.
If you name and shame the dealer then others on here might have had similar dealings with the same dealer.
Hope you get it sorted it's definitely worth sorting the RCZ is an awesome car which you will love.

Hey mate, sorry to hear about your endless issues.

I purchased my RCZ about 3-4 weeks ago and had a similar leak (which looks as if it was coming from a similar spot). It was the thermostat housing on the back of the engine. It's a plastic part with lots of pipes coming off it, apparently a common failure point.

It cost me $800 AUD for the part and fitting, but it solved the problem. I was very cautious of air in the system, so I didn't drive mine until it was repaired.

Hope this is if assistance mate. Best of luck with getting the car back on the road. Once fixed I'm sure you'll enjoy owning it!

Thanks for the reply guys, ive heard off the dealer today they said the plastic pipe mostly always strips when the engine is dismantled, he has confirmed the head gasket had failed, which seems really odd for a 45k car?

Apparently I'm getting the car back today, just worried about the jacking points now.

Really poor communication from them which must be very frustrating.

Fingers crossed it works out ok in the end.

Surprising mate. I'm no expert, but hadn't heard of head gasket failures before. Also, wouldn't there almost always be oil in the coolant with a head gasket failure?

Hi all, so I have got the car back today and for me it gets worse, having changed my tyres before they picked the car up I knew the jacking points were ok, first thing I checked both bent.

I told that guy who dropped the car off and we both took pictures and he said he would ask the mechanic about it. Tried to say it was already like that.

So he disappears sharpish, I had to get back to work so drove to the petrol station as he didn't leave me any fuel in even though I told him id put about £20 in before he took it hoping he would put some in out of a good will gesture.

Car feels flat and doesn't pick up like it did also the engine doesn't feel a smooth as it did, at this point I'm thinking is it because ive been driving my Girl Friends new Golf R around a bit...

I would of thought the RCZ with only 45k should still feel solid but I guess compare to a new car there will be differences however popping the bonnet when I got to work I found 2 zip ties around the turbo intake pipe where it Ts off. pulling it back reviles a split pipe :(

Ive sent him a pic and explained and he sent a message saying he had forgot to tell me a new pipe is on order :| umm

Just feeling really down about the whole thing now he's obviously use some back street garage whos cause me more issues than fixing.

Ive also inspected the so called blown cylinder head gasket which looks in perfect condition.

See pics

Hi, sorry to hear your still having problems with your car and dealer, I wouldn't let and Indi garage do major work on my z their just too complex due to the timing set up which needs specialist tools. The best thing you could do is return your car for a full refund due to it not being fit for purpose. After this group of jokers have messed with it I don't think they'll ever get the car to run right!
Trading standards are a good place for advice.
Get a refund and look for a reputable Peugeot dealer for a replacement.

Good luck

Over here in the northern parts of the world that counts as illegal! I'd contact both police and media.
What a piece of shit shop!
Return the car and look for another one elsewhere!

If could get out the deal today I would, the trouble is I put £1000 deposit on the car. I have called the finance company yesterday and their dissatisfaction team is giving me a call. Hopefully they can sort something out.

I've also noticed lots of scratches at the front of the car between the lion badge where it looks like someone has been bending over the car while working in it.

By a mere coincidence I called Parts NorthWest Citroen Peugeot & Motaquip yesterday to find out the cost of the new turbo pipe, when I gave my reg number and part num the guy on the phone said oh is it Highline Cars? there's already one on order for your car...

I explained I wasn't them, he then said, oh there's another order for Total Fix Service for a couple of more parts, I asked if it was a head gasket but nope just the outlet and another pipe.

Anyhow the Pat at Highline was very cagy about the garage he was using and didn't supply me with there contact details when I asked and said he'd give them my number to call me, not that they ever called me back. I was at the time enquiring about having the Timing chain done while the head was off.

Now I know :)

Ive tried calling Total Service fix but the number goes to voicemail but at least I know who did the work so might pay them a visit tomorrow.

The plot thickens :eusa-think:

By law if your car is not fit for purpose you have a right for a full refund I believe within 6 months of purchase.

Ok guys so I'm finding it really difficult to give this car back, the car is off the road again in limp home mode and the EML light on, ive written to the dealer asking to rescind the deal with all the faults listed which they responded from a legal firm blaming my negligence for the head gasket and that the pervious repair to a coil pack is not linked and I don't have a case.

I'm currently going through a complaints procedure with the finance company when the second engine fault occurred again limp home mode EML light on and they have had an independent engineer to inspect the car. They have said they cannot find any link to pervious repairs in the report but he didn't have diagnostic equipment to actually read the fault codes. He did say to me he was going to recommend the car goes to Peugeot for further diagnostics but not in the report and I'm arguing with the finance company this needs to happen as were going to close the case.

I now have a week to try and prove that the fault I have now is either the part they replaced or linked to a previous repair.

I'm wondering how many faults the ecu would store even if previously cleared. I think I have a case if its the same coil pack that is faulty.

Any ideas where I go from here?

Dear Highline Cars Ltd,

Complaint about faulty goods

I bought Peugeot RCZ REG YT60DAO from you on 29/03/2017. I paid £8500.

I now find the goods have the following fault:

02/04/2017 - Coolant level Warning
04/04/2017 - Coolant leak detected and reported
07/04/2017 - Head Gasket failure (Reported by Highline)
20/04/2017 - Turbo Air intake pipe faulty and reported
26/04/2017 - Coolant Temperature gauge rapid rise and fall issue reported, asked to organise to bring car back for temperature sensor.
04/05/2017 - Engine Fault Repair needed light reported, car no longer drivable, reported.
05/05/2017 - Bumper damaged while being loaded on recovery truck. (see pictures)

Having owned the car for nearly 6 weeks the car has been having repairs for nearly 3 of these and hasn’t been driveable while waiting for recovery. You currently have the car back for repair and I will not be accepting it back from your care.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 goods you supply must be of satisfactory quality, be fit for purpose and match their description. As there was a problem with the goods (vehicle) when I bought it and has developed multiple faults since not linked to wear and tear rendering the car not driveable, I request that you give me a full refund of my £1000 deposit and request a settlement figure from Advantage Finance.

Pictures enclosed of faults and damage in support of my claim.

Please respond within 14 days of receiving this letter.

Yours sincerely
