Hi,

I've been submitted to a medical surgery and due that I left my car unlock in the garage for 2 months. The car is an HDi version from April 2013.

Yesterday I went to car and when opened the door no light came on... neither the dashboard...

I'm thinking to buy a battery charger but I don't know which type of battery we have on the car...

Does anyone know what type of battery is? on HDi engines? Is it Maintenance Free, Wet Cell (flooded), AGM (absorbed glass mat), Gel Cell or VRLA (valve regulated lead acid)? and what capacity it has?

I would like to buy a smart charger that is adequate for the battery type, because I know that Gel Cell batteries (and I think AGM too) are very sensitive to the voltage given by the charger... :/

Thanks in advance,

Best Regards,

Hi,

i've bought this charger:

and tried a recharge yesterday and today morning it was saying battery full, but the indicator on the battery wasn't green. I've connected the terminal again on the battery and for the first time the lights on dashboard turned on, but still not possible to start the engine. but this time was different from when I tried help with other car... now I didn't listen the trac-trac noise... :/

There was one note on the battery charger user manual saying that after a big discharge would be recommended use the reconditioning mode to clean the sulfation on the plates and then charge it again.

Decided then today in the morning to do that and now seems that the battery indicator is starting to turn green (I don't know if is suggestion, but really seems).

What I would like to ask is if after the 24h of reconditioning and new charging I only need to plug again the positive terminal on the battery and start the engine? or do I need to reset something? (like I've read here: http://www.peugeotrczforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=8864&p=120208#p109165)

I'm trying by all means not to call the assistance because my car is on the garage and the access is very difficult even with car working... so, if the assistance don't fix the car will have to take it out from the garage and I'm really afraid that they will damage something... And due to my surgery I'm not yet able to get out the car by me, that I wouldn't mind to take 2hours to remove it if needed... :/

I will really appreciate any help/tip you can give me...

thanks in advance,

Just start the car. There is no need for any reset or similar.

not even to re-synchronize the key with the car? or something like that? because I've made already one battery charged and I wasn't able to start the car and didn't made no trac-trac noise... so I was wondering if a battery reconditioning were needed or if, for instance, the car don't recognize now the key... The reconditioning is now ongoing... and will try it again when done... :/

Hi,

I have now the battery charged but the engine won't start... I still listen some tlac or click in the right side, seems like same relay/actuator but nothing...

Decided then to read error codes and I've got this:

After this decided to erase all the codes and no code appear now, but didn't change nothing, engine won't start even with a booster or with the battery charger help using the mode for starting assistance...

could it be a dead battery, even charged and with help? or what more could be? seems to be very odd that after almost a 2 months stop something more is failing other than battery... :/

Sounds to me like the car immobiliser has kicked in when the battery died (as it would if a thief tried to disconnect the battery to gain access to the car to steal it).

I had the same issue with a previous car of mine and after much swearing and head-scratching finally managed to cure it with one person in the car turning the ignition at same time as somebody else with the bonnet up reconnecting the battery leads in the engine bay.

Not strictly the safest method but fixed the problem and it never happened again after. So be careful if you try it and good luck!

humm... I don't know if I would try that... but seems like I have to call the assistance and send my car to a Peugeot garage... :/

Wtf?? Is that really the only way to go with a dead battery?

Looks like I may be in for some problems with mine upcoming spring then... I didn't disconnect the battery when I left it for winter storage. I thought it will be enough to charge the battery a day or two before I use it again. :/

even the assistance weren't able to start the engine, so it had to go to a Peugeot garage... Monday morning I'll go there to explain what happened and let's see what's really the problem... :/

thanks for your words! :)

and yes, I'm from Portugal, where this colour is in fact very difficult to find... there are one RCZ in Amber Red, and 3 or 4 in Moroccan Red :)

I have a 2010 model which is stored for 10 months of the year. I just change battery 8-12 hrs without disconnecting, not had any issues or had to do a reset.

No, I leave it connected. Just do a slow charge, lift the plastic cover from the positive terminal and connect the earth to top radiator bolt.
