Indeed you can spec those others seats for the R when ordering in Germany/Switzerland/Austria (and maybe other sales regions). Those are the standard RCZ leather seats. You get electric setting too.
But then you drop those excellent R seats. I tried them in an actual R car and I didn't like them as much as the R seats. They do not provide the grip you need when riding the R. I'd take an cold bum everyday over this option.
And having had a look at the upholstery of those R seats, upgrading to heated looks like a doable option. Maybe I'll do that. Do have some heating mats sitting over here and waiting to be put in.
Yep, that's what I figured mate.
Its a bit naughty of them to charge 800 Swiss Francs for what are in effect standard seats (with red stitching) - even if they do have the heating elements.
Those 'R' seats are great aren't they. I say I like the option of maybe choosing heated seats, but in reality like you I can live with some discomfort in winter for a few minutes when its cold.
I reality something that would be of more use would be a heated gear knob.
Interesting what you say about adding heating elements to the R seats. Thought this would take some butchery to get them in, so will be interested to see how you get these fitted and linked to main wiring harness.
As an aside, one minor niggle with the R is that for some reason you also lose that Automatic tilting of the mirror in reverse gear for parking. Some have suggested its linked to the total lack of the electronic controls in the seat, with associated memory settings.
Parking can be a right royal pain what you have those big expensive 19" diamond cut wheels. I know you can buy alloygaitors, but you shouldn't really need to.
